1. Just thinking about this the DB 680 is what 21yrs old? I know mine looks like it just rolled out of the showroom in NYC!
2. I like the thinking and simplicity to install of the bab bridges - especially the new bbot variant. How you like the new bridge now its on?
3. I use my Basswitch as my DI, EQ (gonna try running it as my sole preamp into poweramp tonight for fun, as an eFX loop for dirt and comp (the dirt is switchable with blend function with compressor being always on in the other loop) along with having my tuner run into it so its out of the signal chain......AND it has a mute function! It just sits on my pedal board quietly doing everything without any fuss and has been flawless since the day I got it. I also run my sh*tty acoutic guitar into it for recording /eq too. These make a great addition to your board as a 'brain' or 'hub'.
4. Been lucky enough to get my hands on one recently. I find myself running it into my wee fender combo at home, via a wee mixer for silent practice and at every possible gig/rehearsal I can Looking forward to trying it out with a mic as a recording pre for acoustic and vox soon too...well DB from Aguilar did describe it as a Neve for bass right?
5.
Nope not got one, not a fan and cant remember a similar thread for others that have sadly passed away, so why him?
Hey why not start a thread of your least fav Prince tracks or reasons why you think he's overrated? That way you and other's will have a safe community to express your disgust/disdain/or dislike of Prince's back catalogue. I'm sure I'd not read it but at the same time I'll not come in and tell you guys you're wrong. I'll probably stay in this one and celebrate the work. The internet is full of conflicting views and I'm happy to see opinions which differ to mine and If anyone wants to start a thread on how good/inspirational or abject an artist is in their eyes they're welcome to do so. I think these threads (let's call them the positive threads) celebrating the work of a particular artist offer a glimpse into the back catalogue and I 'look forward' to more popping up celebrating artists I'm not familiar with be they alive or dead.
6. Hey fella Watch this video from about 4.25 for an upright demo with this pre... https://www.youtube....h?v=hvAp9ygCAvw I've a RMI Basswitch which you are welcome to try out. You can change the impedance from 1mega ohm to 10 mega ohm on it to get more 'definition' as well as a clean boost and all the eq you could need. Gimme a shout via PM if you wanna tr it out. G
7. Musicology has some good tracks and was one of his better albums in 'recent' years. Some great grooves and some of that classic minimal stuff - On the Couch springs to mind. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkzfnuvY6Zo And Prince on bass just cause y'know it's Basschat https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWGo4XKjrjc
8. I bet he passed on the one - pro til the end! I am/was a massive Prince fan. You can debate all day long but the guy had chops, groove, style and integrity. I've shed a tear, watched classic footage and bust out some vinyl and now the mazcal has been bust out I feel a celebration oncoming!
9. Recently tried the Pure Blues set which I've been enjoying but struggling to get a 5 string set here due to supply/distribution changes even strings direct are struggling.
10. Which store? I might stock up on some pure blues!!
11. I'll second what Gillento said. I've been using a Basswitch for a couple of years now with passive basses (initially a Lakland Skyline JO and more recently a passive 5 Pbass) Switching between round and flat wound string for different gigs I'll often have my musical director in one project ask me to make adjustments (usually if I've got flats on the p bass) and the Basswitch allows me to tailor the sound to suit the mix with minimal fuss. At my other gig I can push mids on stage to fit in with the live sound of the band yet still send a 'dry' signal FOH to be EQ'd for the room mix. I'm not endorsed by RMI/Lehle but the range of Basswitch pedals might also be worth a look as I know a few happy customers. If you need dirt/drive there are other better suited options. I'd suggest a preamp pedal just for this added flexibility. Naturally you'll get a heap of opinions and only you will know what works for your ears and budget. It's good fun trying out the options!
12. Also the Fender CS 59 which is used in the Mike Dirnt basses is a killer p too.
13. If you dont mind the covers the Bart 8CBP sounded great! I foiund it to have a nice deep sound and none of that modern scooped mid nonsense!
14. BMC gets my vote a great wee unit that does a lot in a small package!
15. I'm gigging mine tonight in Edinburgh if anyone wants to hear one in the wild 😀 Some good info in those links Karl. I read all that stuff too.....after I got mine 😀
16. Ridiculous price for this unit. It's a lightweight gem which sounds as good as it looks. Don't let the minimal controls fool you it's a great giggable head. I use mine with a 212 for pub gigs and it's never let me down. Built in comp and you can push the front end while maintaining overall volume. I have a 2nd bigger rig for showing off but when I need to grab and go rushing in from work and out to the gig it's the TTE every time. Keep it Karl it's good to mix up the live sound and I'd imagine the Puma compliments this well in terms of different soinds
17. I used to have one of these - they're really good! The individual tone controls for each channel are quite useful! Worth checking out if you're interested in a quality power amp!
18. I'm confident I could make it sound like a one-trick pony
19. Dood Did you ever do sound clips of you dingmod?
20. It's worth noting the compressor these guys developed with Good Hz So I've added a link to the vulfpeck compressor drum demos. Man that comp does make things get funky!!! I'd say it plays a part in the bass tone which perfectly compliments Joes playing. You can also hear Joes playing on the more restrained trad stuff with The Olllam The Olllam https://m.soundcloud.com/the-olllam/bridge-of-glllass Comp demo https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6D9WvwMNr8
21. I think with that config you wouldn't be aiming for a T-Bird sound. I guess putting in more tradition p/up's and their placement would get you there. With the wiring on this it looks like the D-Bird would sound huge!
22. I read that it's being strung BEAD to take advantage of the scale. its gonna be available from the factory as a 'custom' order initially with a Far East production version expected later in the year a la the Combustion and I'm guessing at combustion prices. The word is that a 5er will follow if the 4 shows a good sales. I think it's a great looking bass and be interesting to see what they settle on p/ups configuration.
