I also have a power amp to pair with this if anyone is after a killer live rig (Eden WT1000) Open to trades: -Preamp only for an Aguilar TH500 or similarly priced compact head -complete rig of the EdenWT/Read for an all valve head such as AD200, Aguilar DB750 or DB359 I'm not looking for an Orange Tiny Terror and ideally trade offers would be for heads capable of 300w+ Cheers

As of today, 16/12/11 Looks like she's off the market folks trade deal all lined up and triggers about to be pulled! Thanks for looking and those who had questeions and showed interest. I'll leave the post up as there are some useful links for those who may stumble upon this link in the future OK some people know about this pre and some don't. Hand built in the USA by an audiophile called Jack Read (who explains his pre amp first hand on this linked thread, the highlights of which I have copied into the box below to save you 6 pages of talkbass chatter Jack talks about the design process using as few components as possible to maintain signal clarity etc. Its a good read! More details below but essentially this is an..... - All valve, hand built pre - 4 band eq incl. bass (boost only), low and high mids, treble - Bass and bright boost switches - EQ bypass switch - 'Emphasis' control (more details on this function below) - Jensen D.I. with level control - Very, very high standard of components and workmanship (alpha pots, custom made toroidal transformers) - External access to the valves so no need to unscrew anything - just pop them out and in to experiment. http://www.talkbass....e-scoop-106213/ ...... I had some custom toroidal power transformers made so I could get this all down to one rack space. I also incorporated an effects loop, a DI level control, transformer coupling for the output signals, and an EQ Bypass switch. The latter was something I had in mind from the very beginning and is an indispensable feature. I strived to make the preamp as open and natural sounding as possible; capture some of that tube magic (warmth, depth, and a certain three dimensional quality that I have never found in solid state designs); and maintain quick response and clarity without any harshness. I use very high grade components in every part of the signal path wherever it makes a difference. I build high end tube audio gear now and then and much of the Bass Purity design was influenced by that. I don't use any printed circuit boards.... Components are mounted on a 1/8" epoxy/fiberglass board and are soldered to turrets (not eyelets). Everything is point-to-point wired. Tubes are 12AX7 and 12AU7. The emphasis knob works by boosting a broad range of middle frequneces along a unique response curve. This is an excellent tool for cutting through a mix, or for making tweaks to your eq without losing "your sound". As you turn the emphasis knob clockwise you can hear your bass cut through more. Flat is full counterclockwise. It can still be used when the eq is bypassed. Other features include a Jensen DI (as found in Aguilar, Radial and other high quality stuff for a killer D.I. sound.) Effects loop, and the best bit external access to the valves so you can switch them over with out having to open the unit. Simplicity itself! Price is £525 shipped and insured UK next day delivery

Custom built Fuzz £50 This is built around the DOD Grunge pedal. Loads of low end available like the original with huge fuzz sound with some compression. Originally modified to suit bass guitar but still sounds heavy as for guitar, especially drop tuned. Boss ODB-3. £40 Beat up but working fine. I think these pedals get a bad rep as being cheap but they feature a clean blend which is ideal for bass. Good for mild drive or full on filth! Demeter F.O.D (Fat Overdrivulator) £100 Two pedals in one. Overdrive with gain, drive and tone control and silicon/germanium switch for different flavours of drive and a Mid Boost for added gain, depth or volume. Links attached First is the fuzz: Second is the FOD Bass in the vid is a p bass with '59 custom shop pick up going into a valve pre with the eq bypassed completely. Just bass, pedal and 2 Aguilar GS112 cabs (tweeter off in one and the other set to 9 o'clock) Same set up for each video.

Cheer fella Hopefully I'll have another chance down the line to own one. I always wondered by reports that they were not loud enough?!!?? G
-
We were actually playing it in D buy yeah out of tune synth sounds might be the culprit. Why play along? Well it's Christmas isn't it silly Maybe someone from these forums could write a decent Christmas song so the rest of us have something decent to play next year

Steve K EDIT: Just found it on Youtube. My guess is that it is in C but speeded up to somewhere slightly sharper than C# Yeah thats my thinking Cheers.

I do love me some Prince. A few years back I bought Musicology and remember laughing out loud at some of the tunes because of the classic Prince-isms tracks like Musicology with that upper register riff, On the Couch with the little groans and the sheer filth of the track and some great playing and tone throughout. Rhonda Smith, I'd imagine, was responsible. Oh and the showmanship! Fuggedabowdit!

I don't mind the song and I can play along with the bass line - To clarify I'm just querying if its slightly off standard pitch as my ears are hearing the notes as being dissonant (maybe too strong) but just sounding off tune I play the note etc it's all sounding a bit off. I've played it in standard A-440 and down a semitone but its still 'off' to me. My ears (and me) are having a little difficulty deciding if it's down a half step, if the recording has been tweaked in the studio (slowed down or speed up) which has resulted in it being just off standard tuning. Who doesn't love Wham? I remember seeing that clip live on telly. Ahh TFI Friday Cheers for your input and wise words. It's always important to embrace 'the song' and do it and your band justice. Music first, ego second! If nothing else I just want to make sure it's right for the kids playing at their christmas show!
-
Have a listen then play along if your not already horrified. I'm not sure if the tuning in standard A-440 or down tuned by semi-tone or just the track has been slowed down/sped up in the studio? I've been asked to play at a local music school's Christmas Show and it's the one song I'm learning that my ears are unhappy with! It's one of those things I can play it but I'm just not happy with it - I always think I'm out of tune with the track. Help/suggestions/tabs etc are welcome.

My two cents... Pick a date, book it then promote the sh*t outta it on here. If the question of when suits is asked most people wont really know if they can make it until closer the time with a few exceptions of weddings, bar mitsvahs and the like. Be bold, be brave Book it and they will come.
Another Dirnt fan here. Love mine. Fender really dropped a bollock I reckon. If they put it out with the classics and Road worns say as a sort of Fender CV/Modern player/ Pawn shop thing. With either Poly or the worn Nitro they would have sold bucket loads. Sadly too many people see the name and think "Greenday Bleaurgh"
Yeah I think it speaks volumes when Lakland have produced a version of the '50's P with split coil. I like that its a mismash of a couple of era's that still works. Mine had a lot of money put into correcting some factory faults (before I got it) all in about £100 - it shows and I love it all the more. I remember when it was first released and lusting after it all the more due to no distinguishing sig features. I agree that a pawn shop/ cv/modern player version would sell loads. A subtle change to the normal P and j reworks. I'm not even that big a greenday fan plus the early stuff was done on a ripper I think!

I actually own two - a Mike Dirnt which feels, sounds (custom shop p/u) and looks great and a Jack Casady which is just stunning considering the uber p bass tone it does. The Dirnt has rounds and the JC flats perfect pair. The MD doesn't have any tell tale signs its a sig and the JC is so eye catching you kinda miss the headstock scribble. However the Reggie Hamilton Jazz is one of the nicest, most versatile basses I've had the pleasure to play. Great feel, killer eq and its a P/J!
