This very nice chap drove up from newcastle to try out and then buy a bass from me. Hassle free and a delight to deal with. He's new to the forum, only joined so he could get my bass. Turns out he might be posting in the for sale section soon too - you can buy with confidence. G

I used this for a while P bass>Aguilar DB928>Bassdrive>power amp>cab and I was heard just as well as when using an amp and cab set up. My favourite set up was at a recent acoustic gig - bass (with flats)>DB928>Radial DI easy to carry and I sounded as good as any other gig I've done with a decent sound tech. Dont be fooled folks - if the sound guy or girl (Hello Nora at Henry's Edinburgh) is worth their salt it can have a huge impact no matter what your packing. I think often we're as well going straight to the desk in some places - by the time you fiddle about or have the hassle of gear or rock up and find a 60 peavey or marshall practice amp that no one is gonna hear on stage anyway. I know I know heresy!

Hey my buddy is selling this pedal and I offered to post it here for him. Greedtone OD pedal - Volume and Drive controls and two footswitches - one for on/off the second to switch between More/Less drive. Huge amount of volume available and a really nice OD. Kicking in the More adds a whole extra level of drive plus a boost however you can set it up with the volume adjusted for the 'more drive' setting as your standard drive tone. From my brief rumble on this with guitar and bass it has a great quality to it and its VERY tube like. Equally at home on guitar or bass I tried this through a bassman clone to really drive the tubes and I compared it to the Bassman set to a dirty tone (through another amp) and it totally nails a pushed valve head/amp. I also did a side-by-side with a Fulltone Bass Drive and it has an equally delicious drive. Its a lot of dime - He's after £200ovno posted and insured but what you get is a hand built pedal that is exactly the same as used by Pearl Jam, Minus the Bear and a whole host of bands......some of them not even from Seattle Im not sure how many if these are actually kicking about and Im guessing that they are numbered in order from the first one and not a yearly basis as Greg makes them to order and doesn't keep a stock pile. I'm only going by the info I've been given so please correct me if you know otherwise. Them Crooked Vultures Josh and JPJ both use these but I cant find any pic's to verify that for the tone hounds out there. Im expecting pic's tomorrow including one of the hand signed, back plate. Pedal spec has been lifted from the web site and uses very high quality parts. The pedal looks great and if you go to the website www.greedtone.com you can link to some bands who use this and hear their tracks. Features: True-Bypass Built-in Proprietary Noise Reduction Circuitry 3-Color, Dual LED Switch Indicators Dual Stomp Switches (on/off, more/less) Fully Adjustable Volume and Gain 100% Lead-Free Silver Solder Silver Mica Caps (for cleaner highs!) Works with a standard Boss style 9V Pics below:

Up for grabs is a USA Fender P5- I've been playing this for a few months but im still not 100%confident with the extra sting! Going back to my 4 string feels more natural to me however I do do enjoy playing the 5er aarrrgggghh decisions decisions! I had taken a decision to advertise both and see which one went first but ultimately Im more into the 4 as it just feels right to me and as I put a NP4 pick up in it and a new fat cap to make it a bit more 'vintage' sounding I just feel closer to the old girl. Im a sentimental fool I know. The 5 sounds great and has some Dr Low Riders (I may have misquoted myself elsewhere saying they were HiBeams but rest assured they are Low riders! Spec below and pic's upon request tho I'll fire a few up on here once I get back from work. The case isincluded and im after £750 shipped. Top Quality USA Cab-age! for sale or trade
krispn replied to krispn's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Cabs still available Ampeg 410 flightcased 4 ohm monster. (500w) I really do enjoy this cab heaps of bottom plus fully adjustable tweeter. This cab is the Daddy..seriously! Aguilar 410 8ohm (700w) - Another fine cab that does a splendid job - not as full about the bottom as the Ampeg ( but a smaller cab overall in comparison) Has a wonderful presence live and fully adjustable tweeter control These are some of the best out there and each brings their own benefits to a rig......bump -

Playing Old Basslines Down the Octave on 5 String
krispn replied to Mykesbass's topic in General Discussion
OK so maybe not an exact answer to the OP question but instead of viewing the 5 string like a 4+1 as some people have called it (not in this thread I hasten to add) and having recently started playing a 5 string I've noticed the benefit of using the B string with fretted notes and have basically restructured how Im playing the bands songs. The original bass player in my current band used a 5 while I was always played a 4 and I now notice parts of the songs sounding more 'full' with the 5. Im playing along with 2 guitars and piano and 4 part harmony at some points!!. To have that space and chance to punctuate where the piano and guitars are covering a few octaves plus vocals I can nip in and out of the lower notes. Its great when done tastefully and works for the song and Im trying to be as tasteful as i can It took me a while to get comfortable on the 5 and it wasn't until i basically 'relearned' the songs by changing the fingering to suit the low B and incorporate more fretted notes down there that it made sense. I guess my point is the by incorporating notes on the low B string's to enhance a part or section might add the relevant 'colour' to the tune - I have certainly found some one of our songs in particular where I thought great I can throw in a nice low C just didnt work for all the reasons that have been very eloquently discussed above. My 2 cents is try it and you'll know if it's gonna work and forgive the ramble -
What's the best bass for a great 'B' string?

EBS-Freak Yeah its fender 4 & 5 that I play. Got some nice compliments on my tone the other night at a gig too - from a drummer no less and that was using the P5. -

krispn replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
For whats its worth I use DR HiBeams on my 5 string P bass as they are alleged to have a little more stiffness to them and I cartainly can feel them putting up a littel more resistance than my 4 string DR's. See ed friedlands great a/b on DR strings where he takes a load of DR brand strings and does comparisons and give a frank and interesting account on the differences with audio clips.
I think the Lineal is based on a EHX LPB-1 and he HardOne is a Zvex SHO clone. To TS, if you're looking for complete kits, I'd recommend BYOC over the das musikding kits after building both. Also check the BYOC forum, there's a good few vero layouts and the people there are quite friendly.
Cheers! I'll get registered and see what I can unearth!
