1. We were setting up before a BOTB thing we entered (needed to try and win money for a van) and all the other bands were saying hi and being friendly except this one other band. They were sat there with their 'manager' being cool - there are 4 ladies in 'my' band and 2 guys and I think they expected they would have to show the girls how to switch on an amp, where the cable plugs in etc - and they made no effort to chat. Once we started to play the went very sombre looking. I made a point of chatting to them and being friendly but left before their sound check..... Come gig time they were ok but their mandatory cover song was Dakota by Stereophonic and I sh*t you not it sounded like each member of the band was playing in a different key! I went over after and suggested it was an interesting version of the song The results came in and guess who didn't win and walked out without saying a word. As for post gig we always gig away cd's after a show so we get people coming to say hi but with 4 ladies in the band I don't get much traffic regardless of how good my tone is
2. Yeah at a recent little solo practice was just about to leave the room and noticed that a load of drum gear in the adjoining hall had fallen over due to the vibrations I was very reassured by this. In context I normally run the power amp full and the gain on the pre about 13.00 with the output volume set at 9. It's always got bags of output to spare and bridged Oi Vey!
3. Well spotted and it also states on the back of the amp it's 900w bridged @4 ohm and if I recall 1000@ 2ohm? I have a pic somewhere on my mobile I'll attach to this reply. Thanks for your question and if there is anything else I can help you with just drop me a line. JTUK Buy this instead and you can spend all that extra, non golfing time, not being frustrated and enjoying world class tone OK I found the pic but I'll get a clearer one taken if you would like - just let me know. G
4. Just a heads up - my lady ordered me one for my birthday -ahhhh - but due to thomann long wait bought one locally. According to their email yesterday Thomann have gone and dispatched me one after the order was cancelled. If anyone would like to have ot for the going retail price I'm happy to pass it on and I'll cover the postage. It will naturally go up on the appropriate for sale section once it arrives. If its any consolation I do enjoy mine and am tempted to use it at my next band practice for a bit of fun
5. My band mates and I were just discussing this recently as we have 2 acoustic guitars and a keyboard to DI and we'd thought of getting our own DI's just to be sure that there will be enough for us at gigs! Interesting topic so thanks for bringing it up
6. Stumbled upon this by accident earlier... I'm sure some of you cat's would be keen to have a listen - you can use the link below and follow the info on the site www.mesaboogie.com They are testing and comparing all the cab's in their range and then doing some side by side stuff. Not keen on the guy playing but he does some finger style, some slap with both 4 and 5 string basses. The 4x12" cabs sound good as do the 2x15" to my ears. Enjoy

8. What about those tiny wee laptop fans - make a a larger square out of 4 tiny ones - if they will fit and reverse two of them for air in air out action - smaller fans = less noise too right? It sounds simplistic but it might just work right? I'd be interested to hear the various way those who are more clever than me shoot this idea down Commence
9. You make a fair point - wonder if the for sale pages could have a useful guide for newbie and old hands alike stating what people would want in a for sale ad - similar to the way harmony central has a guide to reviews. A guide mean that ppl know what is being asked before they are asked right ? I know it could get right down into the minutiae but might be an idea. It's not something that could 'imposed' but a gentle reminder to 'posters' that there is a guide for advert might mean less to and fro? I'm all about democratic process but it might be interesting to hear the views of others. Might be an idea and areas such as listed below? With a combo things like: Tube/Solid State pre - Combo Output - Output with ext cab - Speakers size and Ohm's - D.I out - D.I. Level - Weight - Additional features:
10. You make a fair point but I think most people would agree that a degree of caution with any amp/guitar/pedal purchase be exercised and that means doing some background to be confident what you're getting suits your needs. For instance if I'm buying a pedal I'll ask if it is battery or psu only, what voltage psu it will require etc - This may or may not be included in an advert but should be asked right? You're correct it's not school but save yourself some time on wasted searching by contacting the seller and asking them the questions you have - let them do the leg work - if they are eager to sell they will get you the information you requested as best they can more often than not. Trust me having spent an hour last week writing an email giving a really through description of a rig I was selling to have the guy blank me for two days and then opt out of the deal its equally frustrating from the sellers side too - especially as I had included in my ad links to all the manuals etc. I bear no grudge against the guy -it's his right to choose whatever gear he thinks will best suit his needs - but my time was wasted. There are already lots of reviews out there on the gear I was selling, many being far more eloquent than mine. I was only helping the guy out! Bottom line is if I'm gonna drop some money on a product I'll be responsible for getting as much info as I can from as many varied sources as I can. We'd all be wise to be pro-active and then there is less room for disappointment. Rant over
11. Thanks Hoiho that bit I understand - and Thanks Al for your comprehensive explanation. I guess the mud will kick in quicker with the .1uF and I think i'd like a bit more range with the tone pot so I'll stick to the less extreme. Saved me some extra work for sure Thanks again
12. Hi Al Yeah I was thinking the .1uF would be too much and result in pure mud. Im no physic's major so my basic understanding is all I have to go on. I'll be using them in a p bass so only one output so if I understand you correctly Im not using two outputs- high and low- just one single output. Basically my understanding of what you're saying is that in series it's .032uF (and I could just find a cap rated at this and save me the extra soldering) while in parallel it would be pointless as it would render the tone knob pointless. In conclusion I'd be safe sticking with the .47uF in your view? I guess I'll se what other feedback I get but I'd be inclined to agree with you unless the 0.1uF added anyhting when the tone knob was at 10 (but I guess it wont) Cheers for the feedback G
13. Hey there tech heads So I got some big old Russian caps and I'm thinking of trying them out in a P Bass - Im gonna install a recently acquired Nordstrand NP4, and a re-wire, into a VM Squire. While I have the guts exposed I was gonna mess about with some caps to alter the tone a little and was thinking of adding the .1uF to really bring out the low end but fear it might be too much. As I await the arrival of the new pots etc my question is has anyone tried a .1uF in their P bass and more importantly would I be able to combine a Sprague Orange Drop .047 with the .1uF to retain some high but add more bass to the tone or would it not be worth the hassle? If I had all the bits I'd just do it but hopefully someones experience could save me the hassle. Any views great appreciated as alway. I've added a pic of the caps along with a penny for size reference just to make the post look pretty
14. Had a buyer lined up but something else caught his eye - good luck with the new rig fella bump
15. Yeah as I said i was posting from my mobile phone - pic's to follow. Feel free to PM and I can get more to you if interested.
16. Thanks for the interest lads and just a note - I'd say this rig is basically a DB750. Same front end but with a more flexible power amp section with the ability to run mono stereo or bridged. I have no point of reference if the DB750 has as many output options but the Eden does a first class job with no problems plus it has those really useful tone knobs that allow you to fine tune your tone to suit the room without having to get into EQ tweaking....unless you want to Thanks to all those of you who have been in touch. PM's have now all been replied to.
17. Up for sale is an 09 P Bass. Due to needing a driving licence Im needing to cull my gear and fund an intensive driving course. This is a standard 09 p bass and fender have really nailed it with their recent revisions. Comes with the new hard case which is excellent but no case candy. Excuse my brevity but on my mobile phone. Price is 725 posted G

19. OK so it's with the future in mind I'm downgrading my entire rig as I have an opportunity for a new job in about 6 months time but that will require me to have a drivers license and probably a car too. To fund an intensive course and hopefully some cheap wheels I'm having to move my gear which pains me quite a bit! All the items are for sale and there isn't much if any wiggle room on the prices due to them being as keenly listed as I can. **Items are based in Edinburgh** AGUILAR DB659/Eden WT1000 - SERIOUSLY good preamp/power amp set up. She will do dirty to a point but this preamp is all about deeep, full tone to die for. Im not sure how many of these were actually made but mine is either 9XX or 4XX (depending on who scrawled the serial number on the back of it) The quality of Aguilar gear, and in my opinion Eden, speaks for itself without me wittering on. Needless to say its a classy sound that will work in most if not all situations. Simpe EQ options but it's so well voiced I'd bet most users of this, and the DB750 which shares it's tone stack , keep everything around noon. The Eden power amp also has the ability to tune the tone so your basic pre EQ can remain unchanged, using the power amp EQ to compensate for the room if needed without affecting your core tone. With my p bass its just a quality classic bass tone (can you hear the regret already in my typing) The DB659 has 'global' tasteful EQ parameters - flat is a great tone. Adding more or less of any one knob sounds 'good' it might not be the sound your after but it wont sound like sh*t you know what I mean. It has a bright and deep switch: bright adds clarity without being overly glassy and the deep will give you all the dub you need. Extremes of any tone knob are never overly offensive IMHO. Manuals Eden - http://www.eden-electronics.com/info/manua...0manual2003.pdf Aguilar - http://www.aguilaramp.com/pdf/support_manuals_db659.pdf Price is £800 including the flight case - I'll split the shipping cost with the buyer. Next....... AMPEG USA 4x10 SVT Classic cab - Early HLN model rated at 500w/1000peak dbut I believe all Classic's are now 500w not 400 like before Some prefer the more 'high end' cab - berg's epi etc but all i know is that nothing can compare to the sheer oomph of this cab - I love it to bits! For rock and most other types of music this will get you heard. This one has no castors but does come with flight case and the bottom tray has wheels to aid scooting it about. Some slight peeling of the tolex but its purely cosmetic. Price is £400 including the flight case. Pics to follow soon TRACE ELLIOTt V Type 1x15 combo Got this recently and was really digging it for a nice toneful 'practice amp' and for the smaller gigs / jamming at lower volume however it will put out over 200w at 4ohms and has a great tube vibe to it. Again with a P bass its just what you would want. The covering on the amp is a little tatty but the everything inside is clean. The amp is on castors for easy movement and has custom made cover. Manual - http://www.britishaudioservice.com/inst/V-Type.pdf Price is £375 - collection would be the best option as postage could get pricey and plain difficult. I may be able to arrange for a buddy to drive half way to meet if anyone is super keen - I'd say a few hours from Edinburgh -i.e. Newcastle, Carlise etc but we can discuss that if it arises. Please do PM me with questions and I'll get more pic's added or provide links to some asap. G
20. Howdy Folks! I was quite impressed with this pick up in my recently acquired Squire VM P Bass - especially after changing it's very old strings - the p/u really came to life with the DR Sunbeams! However I've an NP4 on its way and wanna soup the VM to give my USA a run for it's money. I'm hoping the NP4 can lift the VM to even greater tonal heights and I'm prepared to lose some of the bite and pick tone goodness of the PB101 for the added depth of the Nordy. Not much to say other than SD designed this guy to sound vintage and they use Alnico5 magnets to back up their claims and you may be surprised at how good this p/u sounds and responds to different playing styles such as finger and pick. Naturally I'll leave all wires and pots connected (but as I write I'd need to retain the control knobs but that may change) and do it for £15 delivered via 1st class post in the UK. If you have an old P bass with a poor pick up this might just be the tonic it needs. As many of our fellow BC'ers will tell you the new Squires are getting great reviews and write up's and that all boils down to two things: feel and TONE. Give that old P bass a new lease of life and if anyone asks about that killer tone tell 'em Duncan Designed 'em! Now there's a tag line! PM's will be responded to ASAP Cheers G
21. Bought a an NP4 pick up from Callum today. Swift communication and posted immediately upon receipt of payment. I wouldn't be surprised if it falls through the letter box as I'm typing. Nothing but good to say. Cheers fella and I'll keep an eye out for future deals G
22. As it says on the tin - But I'd need a PM of an honest price as I have no idea doh!
23. My old p bass was dipped in bronze and now hangs around the neck of a Phil Lynott statue in Dublin's Temple Bar...... so no I have never owned a famous persons bass - but did get to try out Phil's old P bass as the shop had it to 'mock up' before the bronze dip! done!
24. fancy a swap for a black one? I prefer the tort any day black is a bit too dull. G
