OK so the real issue is that........ A - they sent a group text and didn't tell you personally or tell the 'band' first. You expected more from your friendship and rightly so but we all hve, or had, friends who are dating or in a relationship and as such they tend to share this info among themselves first and in many cases its only their decision to make regardless of the wider picture. Best friends, oldest friends etc often get relegated to the 2nd or 3rd wave of info and unfortunately that now means the net. The internet and facebook in particular has this bad habit of giving people an immediate forum to release 'big' life changes or news about their lives before its had a chance to sink in and require any thought. So what happens is.. "Would you like a gig abroad in the sun, paid every day and no bills?" turns into a facebook update of OMG we are going to (insert sunny destination here) for a holiday and getting paid to sing too. Bets. Job. Ever! Most of us would say that an offer like that is too good to be true and in this case it looks like it was but you get given an offer like that and some ppl are all over facebook saying they are playing a summer gig all expenses covered blah blah. If nothing it shows an element of childish impulsivity but we're all guilty of that beit in our words or actions. B - Your still hanging onto a whole heap of stuff over the last time your friend backed down on a good musical opportunity and once that bad taste comes back its hard to shake. No amount of minty sweeties will shift it. Clearly you and your mate got over it in the past but if you can't let bad feelings like that go your gonna find yourself with a tumour my friend! I'm a tumour I'm a tumour..I'm a tumour (Family Guy) C - She did it before she'll do it again I play in a couple of bands and one is doing better than the others right now. Its good. The other band our singer is off to S.Africa possibly for a few years maybe only a few months. Good luck to him. We have great songs and it could have turned out ok with the right gigs and a bit of effort...but who knows he might have been a prick on the road, I might have been a prick on the road, the drummer...well you know drummers You have history with this chick - best mates or not. Hititing the road will only see old problems resurface plus you're already bringing up those bad experiences in light of this last holiday decision. So in summary Sit down, behave like adults, hold your tongue be calm and clear, concise even. Don't bitch about the past concentrate on the feelings that came up when you got the group text and then the facebook updates thing- talking about the FEELINGS and not the anger - makes it much more about the relationship and importantly the friendship and not petty sh*te. Im Irish I know we don't do feelings but its the 21st century and we're all europeans so get over it Keep us posted but you gotta talk it out instead of a rash decision. A decision made after thought and deliberation is a decision one can live with - just look at the for sale ad Good luck

Hey folks I've been smitten by the new Fenders! Been trying out the new American Standards while one the look out for a second P Bass that I was gonna trick out with a P retro. Initially I was after a Squire or MIM but having tried the new USA's the neck feels great and I think I prefer it over my Lakland which is a fantastic bass both in terms of build quality and sound quality. I've grew up playing Fenders and these new American's feel about as comfortable to me as any I've tried before. I'd choose this over any other neck I've tried recently - just works for me! My BG is fitted with the Lakland/Hanson vintage pick up which, lets not forget, is a hand wound, custom pick up not some bog standard affair here. I've used it to record and out live and it has a great sound and very responsive. Sounds old and dark with flats and modern and bright with rounds but it is a p bass right The Bob is still in excellent condition and has few, if any marks. Its a sunburst with tort plate and looks like the Fender 62 RI or the Jamerson bass. I can mail pics so just PM if interested. I would sell the bass but would need to see what the going rate is - I'd guess about £650. As these are the same new as the Fenders I'd say a straight swap would be my idea of a fair deal. My big plan is still to fit the P retro to the new bass opening up the tonal range which is handy as I am only able to bring one bass to gigs these days Ideally I'm after an Oly White Fender with rosewood 'board and a tort scratch plate. Its the new Am Std from 2008 onwards with the new neck, HMV bridge, improved case etc I'd also swap for a sunburst/rosewod but not any other basses at the mo - I've had Jazzes before but prefer the P profile and I've also had an old '78 P which sounded great but was a monster for my wee hands. Please don't offer any cash and trades for other models as I will choose not to reply on this occasion. Harsh but there you go:) Thanks for reading. G

Lets not forget his classic Killing..tone which had to be an EB Musicman but that was from waaaay back at the beginning!

I just tried out the new Fender American standards last week and they feel 'right'. Nice fullness in the hand, the rolled edges of the neck urge you to hold on a little longer, its like the joy of being with a new lover who you just don't want to be apart from, you wanna try out new things, you wanna try old familiar things, you wanna do somehting totally wild and crazy.... *ahem* got a little carried a way there! Yeah so the new Am. Standard will be my next bass
How much is the software that goes with it?
I think the full version with all effects, amp models etc is about £20-£25 so all in all a tidy package and when you include the multi-tasking in the new iphone software something that can probably be used in app recording packages too. Be worth a look I'd say.

It was a nice feeling going to practice last night and both guitar players pulled out their polytunes, one was scrubbing about for a battery, I dug out the iphone tapped the app and stuck out my tongue It was a good day

I used one for a short time - it was a stop gap for a thing I was doing and worked admirably. It's a sturdy wee box and might be heavier than you would think - I took mine around town on the bus but a 10 minute walk from bus stop to gig had the arm feeling it! Might just be me being a bit soft but worth thinking about unless you plan on very short walks in/out of the gig. Played through one of the bigger ones (LD 175 or LD 300 not sure which) on Sunday night at a gig and it kept feeding back when I engaged my dirt pedal - one of those things I guess and possibly not a consideration for your needs. The pre sets were dead handy though as there were 4 bands playing so I got my sound at sound check, stored it and was good to go when we played. Overall I think I'd prefer a non modelling amp but for the versatility they aren't bad - especially if you're playing covers or in a couple of different bands. Try one and you'll be impressed either way I'm sure

Hey guys and girls Up for sale is a Lakland Skyline BG (44-64) pick guard. I changed mine to a gorgeous tort and have no plans to go back to white. Once you go tort.......! I'd consider a trade for a really nice Stingray plus cash from you I'm moving flat and it's one extra thing I don't need to take with me. £20 posted No pic at the minute but needless to say its a standard vintage looking Aged white guard, or mint as they are also known with shielding over the control knobs on the reverse. Link below is to the Lakland site - they changed the names of some of their basses recently so it's now called the 44-64 instead of the Bob Glaub. OK so the tax code at work has been wrong for the last few months.... Lets see if the tax man will be civilised and give me a nice wad of cash to get this off your hands. Gather round gather round, all hold hands and lets send the nice vibes to HMRC....if only the vibes were coming from a P bass they'd cut thru the mix enough to be heard right!?! It's a lovely bass and I firmly believe that these 'new' Fenders will be the classics of the future - they are hawt !

Hey Guys and Gals, I got this bass a while back and have been tricking it out to my spec but the time has come to move on. The bass is a Tanglewood short scale hollowbody. I had all the wiring removed and replaced, I'd say ripped out but it was a very careful, considered process due to the tight working spaces in the cavity. Basically what was done to the bass includes: -New Switchcraft input jack -New CTS pots One vol and dual 'stacked' tone control -All new wiring -DiMarzio Model One neck Humbucker The original neck single coil (large humbucker size) is included and has an output of 12.3 if I remember correctly and sounds big. The Model One is a tad more balanced with the bridge mini humbucker IMO. The bass also has a really nice bridge which is very similar the new Fender High Mass bridge. Its soild and the bass has great sustain because of it. This bass plays great, is super light and sounds really warm and fat. Works with many styles from acoustic type stuff, blues, jazz, roots right through to classic rock tones - I defy you to play Sunshine of your Love on this thing and not smile It currently fitted with Thomastik Infled flat wound strings which sound really nice on this. I mainly use this bass on two tracks live and play it alot at home due to its easy portability. The live tracks are both quite different; one is a distortion heavy tune and through my Bass Drive it sounds wonderfully thick and heavy. The TI strings never sounded good with dirt on my old Jazz bass but on this its a perfect marriage. The other track I play it on is an acoustic style thing that gets heavy and the bass works in both guises. Warm and thick with the acoustic sounds and thick and nasty (but but in a good way). Its also my sitting on the couch watching the telly/blues bass and is a lot of fun to play in general. Reason for sale I play in a 6 piece band and when getting to and from gigs space is always at a premium. I love the tone of Thumpy but I'd like to get the new John East P Retro and fit it into a nice MIM P bass. If the P Retro is my thing I'll move it into my Lakland and keep the MIM P as back up at home and the Lakland will be my passive/active one stop bass. Its either that or get a Stingray but thats a bit out of my range just now. Digby and I traded on this one and it came to me in great shape. While I have gigged it, its still in great condition and more versatile than you might first imagine. The mini 'bucker, which is in the classic P position and not right back at the bridge has a nice, aggressive sound, that classic sweet spot P sound with a little something extra due to the hollow construction and the neck is full and warm - what a bass should sound like really! Basically I'd like to trade for a good solid P Bass or I'd like £350 cash, paypal or preferable by bank transfer but we can chat on the phone and work out whats best for us both. I think the price is fair for the high build quality and great condition of the bass. I'll add better pic's soon once i get moved and dig out the camera The bass is in Edinburgh and if you're local get in touch and come try it out in my practice rooom. I'll have tea if you wanna bring biscuits! Thanks for reading and drop me a line if interested. The bass includes a real nice padded case and a cheap functional strap. G

Hey just got an update for our stage time. Jump press a on stage at 9.30 approx. See you there!
-
Come see Jump: Press A this Friday at Henry's Cellar along with a bevy of other female fronted bands in what's becoming an annual event down in the Cellar...the terribly named: Rock Chick Night 3...Return of the Rock Chick Night....for the Third Time.....in Henry's Cellar! Ok so I made the title up but you get the idea! Other bands will play but you'll only really wanna hear us We should be on between 11-11.30 depending on how smoothly things run. Check out some of our tunes here: www.jumppressa.com If you can make it do come over and say hello and we'll give you a little CD pack with stickers, our awesome sounding remastered demo (all done by us on one little mac) and the customary badge. Plus it's ALWAYS good to say hi to fellow BC'ers and have a geek out over gear Gavin

I think its great to see a company go to the end users first and see what happens..... We can all debate the usefulness, practicality etc but as most of us now have some sort of pc/mac at home. Touring guys are likely to have a macbook/laptop and the flexibility that this kind of application has would allow someone, if they were inclined, to redesign their amp to their exact spec for any gig. For many that might be a tweak to far as we buy gear that we like the tone of in the first place but its like having amp modeller software that you can then bounce into a head and take to the gig. I think that will be the next step in ampdesign/modeller desigh like that orange pc amp thing. TC are clever and I for one can't wait to see how this and their future developments pan out. Oh and Uffe, if you're reading, when are we gonna see the Nova pedals for bass - a Bass dirt box for instance? My guitarist bought her Nova pedals after being impressed with my RH450. Lets see the bass range soon OK
