Anyone any views on using one of these with a bass? Have an chance to pick one up and was wondering if anyone had tried it or the DOD250 pre amp/OD Cheers
-
Along with my TU-2 I have a Fulltone BassDrive. It's a really great pedal. I'd love to add an individual boost to my set up having messed around with the comp/cut feature. I'd also like to get a more fuzzy dirt box but having tried some lately not sure I've heard one I really like yet (haven't really tried that many tbh). Like some others I really dig a simple bass tone with various degrees of dirt. Not into chorus delay on my bass tones but that could change depending on the music I experiment with in the future. Never say never right ? Finally the P Retro sounds like a great idea and I'd love to hear some sound clips/reviews soon.

Anyone ever bought a prized instrument from Cash Converters?
krispn replied to Grand Wazoo's topic in Bass Guitars
Got a Rickenbacker Guitar - bolt on neck 'budget model' with the hi gain moulded pick ups. Someone changed the bridge thus the serial number was missing so the guy thought it was a copy. Had it listed for £150 and I offered him £120 - sold days later for £400. I have found a few bargains - convinced I missed a mesa boogie mark something amp (badge was missing) in a Belfast CC yrs ago - full of valves and weighed a ton. Went back a few days later once I got paid but it was gone. They were looking £140 or something like that. There are some great deals to be had and its worth checking every week if you can. As for everything being stolen I have seen photo's being taken of ppl selling stuff in store and they appear to be pretty tight with that sort of thing but that could depend on which shop you go to. -
The SFT is a great pedal. It will open up some new tonal options and add tube bounce, some hair or a decent lump of dirt as you require:-) I've had one but had to shift it again due to needing a passport renewed last minute. I'd defo get one again should the finances see fit.

Im gonna chime in here...... Butler Good day to you sir! This 70's P is immaculate - Jamie talked about 'cracks' on the headstock lacquer- I'd say striations - they may grow up one day to be cracks but thats a good few years off yet. I know the tech that did the recent set up on this and he couldn't believe that this bass is as old as it is and no wear - it's got a nitrocellulose finish that is intact and you know how quickly n/c can show gig wear. This bass is a classic late 70's (I had an old beat to sh*t '78 so know the vintage) its heavy, solid and it will do every tone you want a P bass to do - not every tone ever but every tone from a P. Thick and reggae groovy, edgy punk rock or just plain simple thick in the mix. A P is a P is a P and this one is what Fender would call a closet relic and charge twice the asking price for. Whoever gets this will basically get a 'brand new' vintage bass for not much more than a new MIA P bass. That folks is worth saving the extra few £££ or selling that second cab you don't really need. Good luck with your sale fella.

My guitar players pick up's are beginning to squeak a bit due to picking up my bass when I have the filth fired up. We do get to stand back to back to address the problem and it adds to the rocking out look. You may just need to step away from the amp/speakers or position your pedal so when you do engage the filth your out of the way a bit. That what I do plus it pretty good for the on stage 'look' to step up to the front of the stage when kicking in different parts of songs. Makes a change from just standing in one place all night If all else fails just turn down a bit and tweak your amp and pedal EQ's. As for bass specific pedals there are many out there but if a guitar one is doing the business for now then just enjoy Im rocking a Fulltone Bass drive which is a 3 in 1 pedal as far as Im concerned. Its expensive (many weekend 13hr shifts to get that one) but it is versatile considering what you can do with it i.e. as a clean boost to liven up the tones for a bit of an edgy slightly 'active' bass sound. You can then add the boost channel to that resulting in another bit of boost or really driving your amp hard depending how you set it. Then there are the dirt settings which can toggle switch between some different sonic flavours and again the boost button to go from mild drive to much more. Hope you fix the feedback issue

Walbassist The 659 sounds great and Im not about to jump in there with the screwdriver. Just never noticed it before and it sparked my interest. A gain control would be useful to get a little more grit from the pre but I generally use a pedal or two for that anyway. However the official word from Aguilar is " The trim pot sets the "post eq" level of the XLR output. As for your rig I'd email them and ask as you never know what damage it might do

Hi Toasted Yeah i totally agree with you. I often question why a manufacturer even bothers with tone controls. It would be so much easier if we could all just know what a particular amp sounded like and buy it preset with no buttons or switches to confuse things ;-) I suppose we should begrudge the great explorers for bothering to get off their arses and discovering new worlds too. However thank you for contributing and giving me something to smile about. I'll be sure and label my next post correctly... Internal trim pots! Discuss. i hope your afternoon turns out better than your morning :-)

So I opened up the DB 659 yesterday to try out some new valves and while I was having a look about I noticed what appears to be a trim pot inside the unit. I haven't read anything about these pre's having an internal trim, and I could be wrong but do any of you guys know of this? I havent touched it as i really wanna get some information on what it is/does. I've attached a pic - taken on my mobile so not the best quality- and you can see its the little blue box with the grey coloured + on it righ in the centre of the pic. I've included another pic I found of an internal shot of a DB 659 and I can't seem to locate the blue box unless its obscured in the pic. Have a look and tell me what you think. For reference mine is the close up pic not the top down pic Look forward to any info you guys can provide. Im gonna contact the tech team at Aguilar too but with the time difference Im guessing someone here can beat them to it. Let the countdown begin! If they do pass on any info I'll add it ot this original post in case anyone else is interested. Thanks in advance!

No one wants to come across like an infant and say it's mine and you cant play with it but having had a rig die when someone else was using it and then having to wait weeks and weeks on parts and repair ( I ended up getting a full refund as it was a dodgy bit of kit.....) but if that happened ata gig Who would have reimbursed me had I not been covered by warranty? The promoter? the bands? Even with the warranty cover I was without gear for a couple of months. Im sure we all have horror stories and some nice ones too from when we have loaned gear be it blown speakers or compliments on a great rig but its better not to get burned. I really like my rig and I think it sounds great Its taken me ages to find the pre amp and some buying and trading to find it. I'd be gutted if it died on me. Now don't get me wrong I've loaned it to a mate for some decent gigs but no way will it ever be the house rig for a randon gig night without the assurance that Im getting paid for its hire or if it dies. Bottom line is if my rig dies I dont get to do something I really enjoy and thats play gigs. Good luck with your new amp whatever you buy

I was always under the impression changing the pots wasn't to give you a brighter or darker sound but that the replacement pot's would have a more even taper in the roll off i.e. you would notice the difference between 10 (full) 7 (partial roll off) 4 (more roll off) and zero (totally off) Thinking to some cheaper instruments I have owner or certainly with poor pot's there was no audible difference as I rolled off the tone knob until about half way where there was a sudden difference. Likewise with the volume control, especially on a guitar rolling back the volume cleaned up the amp but with some cheaper pot it was roll, roll, roll, nothing, nothing , nothing then a very limited taper making it hard to judge as only a couple of 'notches' on the volume pot were usable. I am willing to be corrected ...and I managed to get through all that without saying knob! Doh!

It pairs up nice with the bass drive - I've also ran the SFT with 18v just to hear the difference and there is a noticeable boost in output and tone as would be expected of course. I like the 18v sound for edgier stuff but 9v is better for the Motown-ish vibe this pedal is very capable of doing and its nice to have the extra versatility and tones of both 9 and 18v Gaz - hows the X Drive and Sub working out for ya?

Well a few of us have talked about this in the past so I'd be up for it - I know a few locals who would be keen to get their gear oot! I'd even suggested doing it in my wee practice room a while back but just ask Marco - its getting to be a bit of a museum in there Count me in and keep me posted. If the venue was to be in Edinburgh I'd happily help whomever was taking on the task of organising. I know one particular chap on these forums who would have enough gear to put one of these on himself! You know who you are TB

Any sign of any of the GuitarX2 getting in the 65 Amp Apollo heads? I'd really like to try one Has anyone heard much about them yet?
-
Yeah before I joined this band they kinda stuck to a theme of red, black and white colours but everyone seems to gravitate towards these colours think Green Day White Stripes etc As for a look off stage I'm not suggesting we all walkabout looking like the next Power Rangers or the pilots of Thunderbirds 1 through 5 *(which would be an awesome band name!) Doddy hit the nail on the head by saying and Im watering this right down doddy so forgive me.... "......there should be something that ties you all together as a band, ......devising a look that retains the individual personalities, yet gives presence as a band - it was obvious who the band was. Cheers to all who have responded - its a great discussion and even tho I was hoping for more pic's to give ne ideas I guessing Im gonna go the the bass players go to clothing of hat (and maybe waistcoat) now if I can just make that work with the overall look!
-
Yeah thanks for the responses both the comedy and more thoughtful I guess my band are of the opinion that we should look different from the crowd and at events like other local gigs etc not drees like cheerleaders but have a toned down version of the stage wear. I think it's interesting that some people think that their bandmates could make a greater effort. The band essentially wanna make a go of it and are trying to be as well positioned and marketable so if the right gig or break happens during all the hard work there is an identity, brand or whatever you want to call it that can be easily identified by the record big wig seriously tho it's kinda the evolution stage of this band and the let's take this serious and try and make it work. For everyone else in this position I wish you luck and hope to gig with some of you guys along the way.
-
OK so im in a couple of bands - i've been in a few before too and only once did we set out to havea style - we took the easy option and wore suits. Nice! In one of my current bands the members really wanna set a 'style' have a 'look' or whatever. These ppl have a keen desire to play some quality shows and get some interest with a view to getting a manager and applying for festivals. `the sooner the better but realistically in a yr. So the issue of style comes up and someone mentioned post-apocalyptic!!! Snake Pliskin anyone? naturally Im the bass player so Im thinking stick on a hat - job done! Have any of you guys made a conscious decision to 'dress' as a band on stage and when attending other gigs to keep the stylistic motif of the band so that you are readily identifiable? At a recent 'industry' event in Scotland there were a few bunches of people who I can only presume were in a band as to how they were dressed....... and the fact it was an event for bands Just call me Columbo Discuss!
