Hey folks, After our success at the BOTB on Sunday night the guitar fuelled mayhem continues with the great honour of playing the Blaize Launch Party on Saturday June 5th We're on mid-set so be sure to get in and catch Le Salon du Jazz Refuse and hang about after for The Void. Tickets are £4 or its £5 on the door. Expect the usual mix of rich harmonies, angry pop and great hair
  5. OK so the tax code at work has been wrong for the last few months.... Lets see if the tax man will be civilised and give me a nice wad of cash to get this off your hands. Gather round gather round, all hold hands and lets send the nice vibes to HMRC....if only the vibes were coming from a P bass they'd cut thru the mix enough to be heard right!?! It's a lovely bass and I firmly believe that these 'new' Fenders will be the classics of the future - they are hawt !
  6. Hey Guys and Gals, I got this bass a while back and have been tricking it out to my spec but the time has come to move on. The bass is a Tanglewood short scale hollowbody. I had all the wiring removed and replaced, I'd say ripped out but it was a very careful, considered process due to the tight working spaces in the cavity. Basically what was done to the bass includes: -New Switchcraft input jack -New CTS pots One vol and dual 'stacked' tone control -All new wiring -DiMarzio Model One neck Humbucker The original neck single coil (large humbucker size) is included and has an output of 12.3 if I remember correctly and sounds big. The Model One is a tad more balanced with the bridge mini humbucker IMO. The bass also has a really nice bridge which is very similar the new Fender High Mass bridge. Its soild and the bass has great sustain because of it. This bass plays great, is super light and sounds really warm and fat. Works with many styles from acoustic type stuff, blues, jazz, roots right through to classic rock tones - I defy you to play Sunshine of your Love on this thing and not smile It currently fitted with Thomastik Infled flat wound strings which sound really nice on this. I mainly use this bass on two tracks live and play it alot at home due to its easy portability. The live tracks are both quite different; one is a distortion heavy tune and through my Bass Drive it sounds wonderfully thick and heavy. The TI strings never sounded good with dirt on my old Jazz bass but on this its a perfect marriage. The other track I play it on is an acoustic style thing that gets heavy and the bass works in both guises. Warm and thick with the acoustic sounds and thick and nasty (but but in a good way). Its also my sitting on the couch watching the telly/blues bass and is a lot of fun to play in general. Reason for sale I play in a 6 piece band and when getting to and from gigs space is always at a premium. I love the tone of Thumpy but I'd like to get the new John East P Retro and fit it into a nice MIM P bass. If the P Retro is my thing I'll move it into my Lakland and keep the MIM P as back up at home and the Lakland will be my passive/active one stop bass. Its either that or get a Stingray but thats a bit out of my range just now. Digby and I traded on this one and it came to me in great shape. While I have gigged it, its still in great condition and more versatile than you might first imagine. The mini 'bucker, which is in the classic P position and not right back at the bridge has a nice, aggressive sound, that classic sweet spot P sound with a little something extra due to the hollow construction and the neck is full and warm - what a bass should sound like really! Basically I'd like to trade for a good solid P Bass or I'd like £350 cash, paypal or preferable by bank transfer but we can chat on the phone and work out whats best for us both. I think the price is fair for the high build quality and great condition of the bass. I'll add better pic's soon once i get moved and dig out the camera The bass is in Edinburgh and if you're local get in touch and come try it out in my practice rooom. I'll have tea if you wanna bring biscuits! Thanks for reading and drop me a line if interested. The bass includes a real nice padded case and a cheap functional strap. G

    Jump: Press A

Come see Jump: Press A this Friday at Henry's Cellar along with a bevy of other female fronted bands in what's becoming an annual event down in the Cellar...the terribly named: Rock Chick Night 3...Return of the Rock Chick Night....for the Third Time.....in Henry's Cellar! Ok so I made the title up but you get the idea! Other bands will play but you'll only really wanna hear us We should be on between 11-11.30 depending on how smoothly things run. Check out some of our tunes here: www.jumppressa.com If you can make it do come over and say hello and we'll give you a little CD pack with stickers, our awesome sounding remastered demo (all done by us on one little mac) and the customary badge. Plus it's ALWAYS good to say hi to fellow BC'ers and have a geek out over gear Gavin
  9. I think its great to see a company go to the end users first and see what happens..... We can all debate the usefulness, practicality etc but as most of us now have some sort of pc/mac at home. Touring guys are likely to have a macbook/laptop and the flexibility that this kind of application has would allow someone, if they were inclined, to redesign their amp to their exact spec for any gig. For many that might be a tweak to far as we buy gear that we like the tone of in the first place but its like having amp modeller software that you can then bounce into a head and take to the gig. I think that will be the next step in ampdesign/modeller desigh like that orange pc amp thing. TC are clever and I for one can't wait to see how this and their future developments pan out. Oh and Uffe, if you're reading, when are we gonna see the Nova pedals for bass - a Bass dirt box for instance? My guitarist bought her Nova pedals after being impressed with my RH450. Lets see the bass range soon OK
  10. Anyone any views on using one of these with a bass? Have an chance to pick one up and was wondering if anyone had tried it or the DOD250 pre amp/OD Cheers
  11. Along with my TU-2 I have a Fulltone BassDrive. It's a really great pedal. I'd love to add an individual boost to my set up having messed around with the comp/cut feature. I'd also like to get a more fuzzy dirt box but having tried some lately not sure I've heard one I really like yet (haven't really tried that many tbh). Like some others I really dig a simple bass tone with various degrees of dirt. Not into chorus delay on my bass tones but that could change depending on the music I experiment with in the future. Never say never right ? Finally the P Retro sounds like a great idea and I'd love to hear some sound clips/reviews soon.
  12. Got a Rickenbacker Guitar - bolt on neck 'budget model' with the hi gain moulded pick ups. Someone changed the bridge thus the serial number was missing so the guy thought it was a copy. Had it listed for £150 and I offered him £120 - sold days later for £400. I have found a few bargains - convinced I missed a mesa boogie mark something amp (badge was missing) in a Belfast CC yrs ago - full of valves and weighed a ton. Went back a few days later once I got paid but it was gone. They were looking £140 or something like that. There are some great deals to be had and its worth checking every week if you can. As for everything being stolen I have seen photo's being taken of ppl selling stuff in store and they appear to be pretty tight with that sort of thing but that could depend on which shop you go to.

The SFT is a great pedal. It will open up some new tonal options and add tube bounce, some hair or a decent lump of dirt as you require:-) I've had one but had to shift it again due to needing a passport renewed last minute. I'd defo get one again should the finances see fit.
  14. Im gonna chime in here...... Butler Good day to you sir! This 70's P is immaculate - Jamie talked about 'cracks' on the headstock lacquer- I'd say striations - they may grow up one day to be cracks but thats a good few years off yet. I know the tech that did the recent set up on this and he couldn't believe that this bass is as old as it is and no wear - it's got a nitrocellulose finish that is intact and you know how quickly n/c can show gig wear. This bass is a classic late 70's (I had an old beat to sh*t '78 so know the vintage) its heavy, solid and it will do every tone you want a P bass to do - not every tone ever but every tone from a P. Thick and reggae groovy, edgy punk rock or just plain simple thick in the mix. A P is a P is a P and this one is what Fender would call a closet relic and charge twice the asking price for. Whoever gets this will basically get a 'brand new' vintage bass for not much more than a new MIA P bass. That folks is worth saving the extra few £££ or selling that second cab you don't really need. Good luck with your sale fella.
  15. My guitar players pick up's are beginning to squeak a bit due to picking up my bass when I have the filth fired up. We do get to stand back to back to address the problem and it adds to the rocking out look. You may just need to step away from the amp/speakers or position your pedal so when you do engage the filth your out of the way a bit. That what I do plus it pretty good for the on stage 'look' to step up to the front of the stage when kicking in different parts of songs. Makes a change from just standing in one place all night If all else fails just turn down a bit and tweak your amp and pedal EQ's. As for bass specific pedals there are many out there but if a guitar one is doing the business for now then just enjoy Im rocking a Fulltone Bass drive which is a 3 in 1 pedal as far as Im concerned. Its expensive (many weekend 13hr shifts to get that one) but it is versatile considering what you can do with it i.e. as a clean boost to liven up the tones for a bit of an edgy slightly 'active' bass sound. You can then add the boost channel to that resulting in another bit of boost or really driving your amp hard depending how you set it. Then there are the dirt settings which can toggle switch between some different sonic flavours and again the boost button to go from mild drive to much more. Hope you fix the feedback issue
  16. Walbassist The 659 sounds great and Im not about to jump in there with the screwdriver. Just never noticed it before and it sparked my interest. A gain control would be useful to get a little more grit from the pre but I generally use a pedal or two for that anyway. However the official word from Aguilar is " The trim pot sets the "post eq" level of the XLR output. As for your rig I'd email them and ask as you never know what damage it might do
  17. Hi Toasted Yeah i totally agree with you. I often question why a manufacturer even bothers with tone controls. It would be so much easier if we could all just know what a particular amp sounded like and buy it preset with no buttons or switches to confuse things ;-) I suppose we should begrudge the great explorers for bothering to get off their arses and discovering new worlds too. However thank you for contributing and giving me something to smile about. I'll be sure and label my next post correctly... Internal trim pots! Discuss. i hope your afternoon turns out better than your morning :-)
  18. So I opened up the DB 659 yesterday to try out some new valves and while I was having a look about I noticed what appears to be a trim pot inside the unit. I haven't read anything about these pre's having an internal trim, and I could be wrong but do any of you guys know of this? I havent touched it as i really wanna get some information on what it is/does. I've attached a pic - taken on my mobile so not the best quality- and you can see its the little blue box with the grey coloured + on it righ in the centre of the pic. I've included another pic I found of an internal shot of a DB 659 and I can't seem to locate the blue box unless its obscured in the pic. Have a look and tell me what you think. For reference mine is the close up pic not the top down pic Look forward to any info you guys can provide. Im gonna contact the tech team at Aguilar too but with the time difference Im guessing someone here can beat them to it. Let the countdown begin! If they do pass on any info I'll add it ot this original post in case anyone else is interested. Thanks in advance!
  19. No one wants to come across like an infant and say it's mine and you cant play with it but having had a rig die when someone else was using it and then having to wait weeks and weeks on parts and repair ( I ended up getting a full refund as it was a dodgy bit of kit.....) but if that happened ata gig Who would have reimbursed me had I not been covered by warranty? The promoter? the bands? Even with the warranty cover I was without gear for a couple of months. Im sure we all have horror stories and some nice ones too from when we have loaned gear be it blown speakers or compliments on a great rig but its better not to get burned. I really like my rig and I think it sounds great Its taken me ages to find the pre amp and some buying and trading to find it. I'd be gutted if it died on me. Now don't get me wrong I've loaned it to a mate for some decent gigs but no way will it ever be the house rig for a randon gig night without the assurance that Im getting paid for its hire or if it dies. Bottom line is if my rig dies I dont get to do something I really enjoy and thats play gigs. Good luck with your new amp whatever you buy
  20. I was always under the impression changing the pots wasn't to give you a brighter or darker sound but that the replacement pot's would have a more even taper in the roll off i.e. you would notice the difference between 10 (full) 7 (partial roll off) 4 (more roll off) and zero (totally off) Thinking to some cheaper instruments I have owner or certainly with poor pot's there was no audible difference as I rolled off the tone knob until about half way where there was a sudden difference. Likewise with the volume control, especially on a guitar rolling back the volume cleaned up the amp but with some cheaper pot it was roll, roll, roll, nothing, nothing , nothing then a very limited taper making it hard to judge as only a couple of 'notches' on the volume pot were usable. I am willing to be corrected ...and I managed to get through all that without saying knob! Doh!
  21. A very underrated or unknown company is ElectroniX Just wish they had made more of an effort with the sound clips Really impressed with what I heard tho sound wise.
  22. It pairs up nice with the bass drive - I've also ran the SFT with 18v just to hear the difference and there is a noticeable boost in output and tone as would be expected of course. I like the 18v sound for edgier stuff but 9v is better for the Motown-ish vibe this pedal is very capable of doing and its nice to have the extra versatility and tones of both 9 and 18v Gaz - hows the X Drive and Sub working out for ya?
  23. About 6 months ago my guitarist at the time let his guitar version ( identical internally) go for £110 though I knew he would bargain down to £90 if pushed as he was broke. I nearly bought it off him just because it was such a good deal he was virtually giving it away
  24. Well a few of us have talked about this in the past so I'd be up for it - I know a few locals who would be keen to get their gear oot! I'd even suggested doing it in my wee practice room a while back but just ask Marco - its getting to be a bit of a museum in there Count me in and keep me posted. If the venue was to be in Edinburgh I'd happily help whomever was taking on the task of organising. I know one particular chap on these forums who would have enough gear to put one of these on himself! You know who you are TB
  25. Pedal posted yesterday and here today - super quick. Restoring faith in internet transactions one deal at a time.......Ladies and gentlemen I give you ......Clarky OK so I was hamming it up a bit but you get the idea
