Well theres been an 1176 a Pultec style eq and now a 610 pre so a Neve or API type unit would be a logical next pedal as they cover guitar and bass or any source

Normally I enjoy Nate’s videos but don’t think this one did the pedal justice. I’ve registered to a couple of demos and I do like what it does - it’s grown on me. I use the plug in of the 610 on my daw frequently and think this would be a great ‘one pedal with a di’ option for iem gigs and while I have a pedal which does that I’d still like to give one a go! It’s a shame GuitarGuitar don’t stock Origin! It strikes me as a unit you’d really get a feel for by actually playing it as opposed to a muff or something where you know/want the baked in sound. And not to be that guy but what’s next? A Neve based unit? Some other studio gear in a pedal? Origin are wizards!! It is payday weekend 🫨

If the noise isn’t there when the comp is off or out of the signal chain chances are it’s adding noise or highlighting some noise somewhere. There’s an expectation comps can increase the noise floor and while some comps do it in a less noticeable way than others it could be the culprit. As always remove what you think is the offending item from the signal chain and test then do the same with the next bit of kit etc. As for settings the best thing to do is set the unit to where it’s doing what you want with minimal noise (I know I’m stating the obvious). It’s always hard to give settings especially on a compressor as we all have a different touch/attack but on the Cali a 4:1 ratio and fine tune the attk/rel to taste for a nice gentle evening out is a good starting point. Sorry I’ve just given the most generic reply ever on basschat 😀

Cracking clean bass preamp which is what I used it for but it shines in its original role as guitar distortion pedal. I actually only plugged it into a guitar yesterday for the first time and it sounded class - I got some killer chuggy, drop d sounds and could dial in a pretty mean thrash tone too. If I played guitar in a band I’d have this on my board. Can do lower gain too and there’s heaps of videos on you tube. Here’s one with the pedal designer. I love this range of fender pedals - they all have that extra wee features which comes from intelligent design by an actual guitar player.

I’ll have to take another look.

Look forward to reading your opinions. One has come up locally but I’m not in a position to pounce until some pedals shift. This one has dual signal pathways right?
-
Do try it with round wounds - It's a very versatile little bass (well as versatile as a P bass but you know what I mean). I punks up nicely with those rounds!

I kinda preferred the Origin but with some tweaking it could probably be closer if the recent Bad Monkey video is to be believed! #EQisTheSecret

As much as I’d enjoy toying with an atlas I’m happy with my comp and would much rather spank my finances on cheese!

Looks like the hyper luminal remains safe on my board. If the UA comp doesn’t perform on bass that’s very disappointing.

Ian reached out and we had a very pleasant transaction. Deal with confidence, this man will keep you right!

Nabbed a wireless thingy and as ever a pleasure to chat and the transaction was pain free.

I like it but not in the market for a new bass. Look forward to hearing some sound demos and which of the switching options they’ve gone for I.e like the D roc or some other alternative.
-
Looking forward to hearing how the preamp sounds. Demos hopefully forthcoming with namm kicking off.

Uh-huh. It’s very impressive. and don’t start me on the new fender pick ups. No bass versions yet but the CuNiFe guitar pick ups sound great. Patiently awaiting the bass iterations. Tim Shaw doing fine work!!

Just putting this out here. Sounds class on the few demos I’ve heard. A contender for bass? 610 preamp and an 1176 style comp + LA2A with options for both. It’s making me feel sweaty for my comp🥵😬😥

If it’s only for recording would a plug in or dirt on another track which could be blended be a work around rather than doing it all in your signal chain? The beauty of recording is the flexibility it offers. Might be a faff but if your taking a clean di and your pedal board sound in theory it should be a simple enough. The other suggestion might be adding in a loop or blend and you can introduce the dirt where it works best. I have a cab sim pedal At the end of my chain and run my main dirt after the preamp and into that before hitting the desk as it makes the drive sound more pleasing. My always on dirt is in the fx loop of the Basswitch so that helps with signal chain and routing. Adding in another loop/blend might not be what you’re after but it could solve the problem?
