  1. To be fair the BB can sound a bit bass heavy and for someone like JLo the Dimarzio’s probably offer a more fitting p bass tone for his needs. I was just commenting on the difference between my p bass and the BB. The BB is much more bassy - not better or worse just (noticeable) different.
  2. Well I have things secured and organised for gigs and just got some new dual lock to sort it out. I have and have had some larger pedals so always had to do a bit or Tetris to make things fit and have access to in/outs/xlr so now I think I can settle back into a more traditional set up rather pedals at odd angles I’ll keep the right hand side of the board with the Comp and EQ (which goes into the DI and onto the pa) and I can come out of the ‘DI Thru’ into a dirt pedal and on the the amp. Not as complicated as it might sound and it’s worked well on last weekends gig. It gives me some control over my IEM sound from my board as well as running some dirt to the amp only. The HXS and the ADAM have their own psu so it’s simply a matter of plugging in power and a lead or two if I wanna switch them in or out. Running them into that tube DI does enhance the sound which is a bonus! First pic is the regular pub band set up and the other two are just messing about trying things out.
  3. Had a rehearsal last night and we were auditioning three guitarists. I saw this as the perfect opportunity to compare three different set ups! So it’s an 80’s band and while there is scope for synth bass the keys player is doing the heavy lifting in that department. He suggested early on his left hand wasn’t gonna step on my parts but we could work who was doing what on tunes where it was basically multi layers of all synth goodness if that was needed. We both wanna make it fun and add a wee touch of our own sound to these classics. I had three set ups but only two players showed up so I used my pedal board and the ADAM. The Stomp wasn’t needed but I’ve dialled it in for this band and have a GK amp model with octave and an eq assigned to the FS’s (and a FX loop on all my patches so I can add in external pedals and do the parallel blend thing etc. - been comparing drives and stuff which has been fun). The pedal board is such a good solid tone. The Hyper Luminal is such a good comp and the ability to tweak really makes it three comps in one. I’ve all three modes set up differently and it means I have some options depending on what I want it to do. Even out slap parts, add punch, 1176 all in mode! It’s a quality box and well worth a look if you’re on the fence. The ColourBox is a cracking eq and sounds ‘full’ - you can hear the difference when you engage it - it’s got a transformer inside and you can notice the effect it has. The EQ has good scope and I found it very easy to enhance my bass with minimal fuss. My only criticism is the HPF is set too high (160Hz not the 60Hz which I had read in some literature) to make it work for bass but it’s no deal breaker. It was combined with the Fender Trapper, an amp style drive and it too worked well. I like the trapper and the clean blend with X-over is really useful being able to set the clean crossover freq and level. It’s another pedal worth a look if you want/need/prefer a clean blend and like a more traditional bass drive over the ‘DG’ sound. It can get gnarly but not super modern scooped. I have another drive but it’s been my go to with this band and it was fun to use the Trapper. The Trapper works and really nails that amp style drive but I’d say the B3K suits the band better as it sits well with the synths especially as the guitarist was using TS style drives and crunchy, amp like dirt too. The ADAM is a monster pedal and I think it sits really well with the synths/guitars. Even the clean tone is huge and the parallel signal path has a huge part to play with that. On Material Girl the bass part sits right between synth and bass and the combination of clean blend, synthy fuzzy drive, character control and some eq make it fill out that lower register while adding compression keeps it defined and punchy. It’s such a fun song to play. I’d say I can get away with a more aggressive tone for many of the songs and having keys/synth really helps with that as the bass can just add the edgy definition and support the guitar. It’s coming together nicely and a few little tweaks now we have found a guitarist should see the whole thing settle in and we can all find our sonic space. I may tweak the pedal board by changing the drive to my other unit and I’m still in two minds about keeping the ADAM - it’s a complete unit and but I do like the flexibility of the pedal board and the ability to patch in pedals on the stomps fx loop. At this stage I’m quite chuffed to have the options and I really liked getting a chance to compare them on the same tracks. Oh and we found our new guitarist too so that’s nice!
  4. Amos playing a custom shop Yamaha with Nordstrand humbuckers? Looks like the new BB headstock.
  5. Yeah the pod go appears to be it’s own thing and not quite as flexible in the choices offered in the HX kit

No problem it’s a shame Aguilar didn’t do a comprehensive manual and explain how the unit reacts with the gain engaged.

The TH is a great unit and can do a really nice crisp clean tone but you can also make it a bit more edgy. If you haven’t seen this blurb already have a read of my post in the link- post number 7. It’s originally from Eubert on Talkbass and it’s really useful for getting the most out of your TH if you want to get it a bit more characterful and introduce some drive/warmth!
  8. I don’t use chorus much beyond messing about at home but this would be the one I’d buy if I used it on a regular basis. MXR Bass Innovations make some tasty units.
  9. not sure about configure but if you use the <Page> arrows you can access further parameters depending on the amp/cab/effect type. Pressing the knob resets back to what the original value was (from memory) on each of the three displayed values. The manual or quick guide is worth a look but I’m not sure you can assign anything other than scroll through.
  10. The mods actually remind me a bit of the pawn shop series basses Fender made and I think they would have been feeling pretty smug and clever with themselves if this type of ‘pawn shop’ mod was their idea. In my head it makes perfect sense!
  11. My jmj has a thicker headstock but I believe that’s a feature of the 60’s version it was based on. Probably ‘helps’ with the tone?!?
  12. Love that wee tone knob hiding on the scratch plate. Very nice!
  13. I know the weathers pretty bad today but…😀
  14. Small tweaks to mine. It won’t be triggering any ‘events’ in the immediate future even with all the transformers involved! 😀 A comp, a preamp/EQ, some tubes and transformers going direct to the desk (and IEM’s) but also routed to the amp via a dirt pedal for when I take an amp to gigs. I may tidy the board…but I’ll need more of that grippy stuff. Looking forward to the next few chances to get it tried out. Sounds bon at home!
  15. Another vote for the spark booster - an always on type of pedal which can be set just so. In saying that I also have a Fender 'Trapper Bass' Distortion and it can do a wider range of tones from very minimal/just a hint of grit to much more full on. If you're after some versatility it's a very good option and I haven't really seen too much fanfare on here for it. It has a clean blend and a cross-over on one of the channels and another less involved (Gain Tone Level) side which can then be stacked for additional gnarl! The clean blend channel really lets you dial it in - a big bass sound without sacrificing low end and requires minimal effort.
  16. I’ve been rehearsing again and it’s good but we just can’t lock in a reliable guitarist. I’m told we have three auditioning next week! Is the new stuff original material or similar stuff to the JBC stuff? I’d looked at some original material bands but the stuff wasn’t really grabbing me.
  17. Has JBC called it a day or are you off experimenting in pastures new? I’ve started in an 80’s thing and I’m looking forward to some of the legacy synth stuff just to see if it’s useable although I’m hooking the iPad to moog app with convincing results! The update link on the last page has info on all the versions where the updates will work. I’d imagine the Go will get the same update as the rest. No reason why it shouldn’t. Update. It looks like it’s only HX kit so I guess the Go isn’t included.
  18. Yeah they’re fun for the soundscapes stuff and losing half an hour but I’ve dialled in some go to patches for my needs. It’ll be fun trying the Bassmaster out.
  19. Mines been in the gig bag for a couple of rehearsals. I’ll have to get it plugged in today and updated. I was wondering when we were getting an update.
