  1. Loved this guys drumming ever since I saw him drum for Alanis way back in the 90’s and was stoked that he got the Foo’s gig. Big loss!
  2. I've been using a comp for ages to just even things out rather than address any technique issues, I'm not heavy handed and can be as dynamic as I need to be with my right hand where appropriate. I rarely use a pick but have been more so recently just to get a certain attack when using drive pedals for a more pronounced tone as opposed to what I can get finger style and the comp has helped with that in it's own way, a bit crisper on the top end and a nice punchy tone toon. I have been messing with adding more compression then I normally did and I think it's due to picking up a new to me pedal (DG Hyper Luminal) which has different controls to my last unit. It's been fun trying out some different sounds and on some tunes having the clean blend at set to 'all compressed tone' does add something different. I guess being used to a certain sound then hearing something new/different is pleasing. I'm enjoying listening to the differences in tones and figuring out what works best for me.
  3. This would be pretty sweet in my 80’s band 🤔😀😀
  4. I guess the budget didn’t cover the headstock design? (it's not that bad really I suppose)
  5. The best flats out there and being sold by a fellow Tyrone man!
  6. An often overlook aspect of a clean blend feature.
  7. If you don't need 'em you don't need 'em!
  8. it nailed the p bass tone and had a very useable palate of sounds. I’d have one in a heartbeat over most other basses.
  9. The bingo preamp was in the Big Al too. In passive mode the Big A was a fine sounding bass. When in active mode the bass became a modern, fine tuneable machine. The EQ really does add that modern zing. The Bongo is a different voice to the Ray for sure and the neo magnets in the Bongo pick up add to this.
  10. It was the over drive demos but I’ve found some cheers
  11. Great demo/walkthrough of the sonic spark of folks who want a better understanding of how it works and how best to use it.
  12. Can you recommend any good demo’s of the drive. I’ve only ever heard that official one but suspect there’s lots of tones in it. I have the Basswitch and just love it. It’s been the one piece of gear I’ve owned the longest!
  13. Man the preamp in the Bongo is a monster!
  14. Always fancied trying one of these. Very highly rated by Onvilabs!

    Boss GX-100

Oh aye I agree. What folk think it should have and what the engineers or design goals were are often at odds. They could have and I suppose some folks will be frustrated they didn’t.

    Boss GX-100

Boss don’t appear to have included a ‘direct to desk’ option in their literature
  17. I’m keen to hear how folks find the two smaller controls Amp Out EQ when running the pedal to an amp. I’ve no doubt Origin have made it work but it’s always good to hear user feedback (I still have both units in my basket on the OE page)😬
  18. These numbers mean nothing to me.
  19. are most of these via AT?
  20. The Fender Engine Room units look good but there’s cheaper stuff out there.
  21. I use the Trapper and currently have it set up for lower gain tones. Mine is currently set as pictured. I found pushing the level and lowering the gain seems to keep the low end on both sides and as you’ll know Dist2 has the clean level and x-over too so you can bump the gain and keep the bottom end present. I don’t have much need for both drives on together so don’t have the pedal set up to maximise that ‘both on’ sound. I do like the lower to mid gain sounds and the current settings work well for me. The Trapper does have some of that amp style drive and it sounds great. I could probably push Dist2 to be more driven and keep the lows and full and intact with the added controls but it works well for my needs as is. I’d recommend trying one and I found these setting work well finger style and come to life a bit more with a pick. The both on sound might mean a compromise on one or other Dist settings but there is scope for tweaking and it’ll depend on how you want to use it I.e off/low gain/fury or off/drive/chaos you could pretty quickly set it up. I found it stacks well well with my amp’s built in drive too. I should mention mine is after an eq/preamp pedal so it’ll be adding to the sound so YMMV in terms of how it sounds with your signal chain. It’s definitely worth a try and can get dirty. For me it’s a great low - mid gain sound and I’d happily leave it on all night especially running a cleaner sound to the pa and having the amp grumble away on stage behind me. The Empire Music demo on YT is a good representation of how the pedal sounds.
  22. Y’know I’m really happy with the layout of my board but I’d really like to try one of these out live. I’d say that’s where they’ll shine. Big solid bass tone from the PA as well as the amp or for iem. I think the ‘64’ would be a better fit for me but I know there are some great driven tones in the SV too
  23. A pedal board rejigger has meant I’ve gone back to a more analogue signal path in a vain attempt to recreate a ‘studio style’ all analogue signal path so this one remains on the chopping block.
