I’ve literally just been messing with octave down stuff using my Red Witch Zeus (basically an OC2 circuit) into the parallel loop on my Basswitch and comparing it with the HX stomp running an octave down on a parallel path too. Some context… I’ve been learning a bunch of 80’s tracks for a band I’ve been approached to join so as well as learning the songs as regular bass parts down in the ‘bass register’ without any effects I’m also coming up with the parts with the octave down engaged but I’m not playing that many, if any notes on the E string below the 5th fret, generally keeping to the 7th fret and above. In fact I’m playing most of the parts starting at ‘D’ on the A string and above with the octave engaged to get better tracking and a bit more of the effect. I’ve tried both finger style and pick I don’t see the use of octave down on an open low E to the A note for the 80’s stuff I’m learning- just lacked the attack and clarity. It sounds more pleasing played up the neck with the octave engaged but I’d need to wait and see how sounds with the keyboard parts in an actual rehearsal room before deciding if it’s gonna be the octave effect or straight bass tones for those particular songs. As others have said you may find depending on your goals/songs your doing/effect your after that going much below A or G on the E string is not worth it due to glitches and muddy tone. What’s the context? Are you covering songs or just want low sub octave sounds/effect. I’m only really gonna need it on a few tracks but it’s good to have the option but the proof is in the rehearsal room!

It feels like each bass ‘pulls you’ into a specific style of playing which comes across in each performance whether that was intentional or not. Great playing!

Riffs ahoy!!

A other great example of how a bit of dirt on the bass helps it work in a mix- the dirt just seems to ‘dissolve’ like a tonal stock cube into the mix adding it’s own flavour. Fine work indeed. I’m thinking about moving to an ADAM pedal for live and this is another great example of how I might use one. *opens Spotify and plays Superunknown

My Basswitch has been the ‘brain’ of my pedal board for a decade and it’s so versatile. My fiddle played has used it when waiting to get her own preamp/DI it’s helped fix a few unruly hollow stages and been flawless in that time. Well worth the asking price considering the years of service but at the time I was after something with that functionality and I was building my pedal board around those features. I was basically making a pedal board which would work if my amp died or for a straight to desk pedal board.

It's NOT EVEN been nine whole days since I bought any bass gear...

Nah it’s the BC way. A heap of pedals are bought, photographed in situ on a pedal board, rejigged and then replaced with essential the same pedal (and in your case the actual same pedal) only to be re-captured, reposted and then swapped again. I sometimes wonder if it’s as much about having the latest ‘cool looking pedals’ such is the power of a forum and the hype generated. I think the pedal board thread on here should be renamed Pedal Bored as folk seem to change up things with such frequency as to have lost interest in the new pedal before it’s even arrived in the post. -
I’ve been using a Basswitch IQ DI on my board for about 10 yrs. It has a great preamp with two bands of semi para mids. More then than it has a heap of other features from dual fx loops, mute switch, boost, dual instrument inputs and A/B switching. It’s so much more than a simple EQ. Also I’ve been using a Cali76 from about the same time although it’s changed from the big box to a compact back to the big box it’s always been running in the parallel fx loop on the Basswitch. A match made in heaven!

So with the software update and the changes implemented to the signal chain how are folks enjoying the ADAM? As is the way with gigs returning I’d really like to get an ADAM and give it a blast. Now there’s nothing wrong with my stomp nor my ‘full’ pedal board set up which has comp, drive and eq/blend control so I can use either to give a very pleasing live tone. For most of my gigs all Ireally need/use is a simple signal chain of eq/drive/comp (and cab sim for IEM’s). The signal chain in the ADAM and it’s features are pretty cool and having the software update/flexibility (Neural software) leads me to believe that the pedal will continue to have some practical updates which will outpace the amps down the line - the new selectable eq points looks interesting and we could see different eq profiles to mimic various amps in the future as part of that Neural software lineage. I’m picturing a B15 eq profile in conjunction with the low gain, SVT profile etc. Anyhow future developments aside how are folks enjoying the pedal and @Obradid you manage to resolve your issues with the pedal?

Some VERY good news at last - live music back by the Spring?

Vaccines are a big part of the way out of the current pandemic. I’ve mentioned it previously that if big pharma was really keen to fully attack this on all fronts then we’d be extensively looking at the off license use of other medications both in the prophylaxis of and treatment of COVID-19. While the idea of selective pressure related to the long term use of vaccines isn’t new there remains the train of thought that wide spread vaccination during an active pandemic does more to increase the mutation of a virus due to this selective pressure and make it stronger than a % of non- vaccinated individuals getting infected and a mutation occurring within them. By their very nature viruses will mutate and we are all mutagens irrespective of our vaccine status in lieu of a sterilising vaccine. I’m not anti vaccine I’ve had numerous vaccinations over the years from holiday related jabs to flu jabs. I’m also not going to tow the line and suggest that the current vaccine doesn’t come with risks. I hope that side effects are properly recorded and collated and we can get a picture of how much risk there is so folks can make an informed choice. I hope that research continues into the use of corticosteroids for aggressive treatment of people with Covid as much as I want to see the continued figures in relation to ivermectin as both a prophylactic and treatment in long Covid. @Al Krowthere’s good research figures from India where some states have embraced Ivermectin - Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. For fear of repeating myself there has to be more than one option to curtail the spread of Covid and I find it interesting that some drugs with impeccable safety records are being held to a higher safety standards than these novel treatments which in terms of longitudinal safety data are still at a very early stage. That’s not to say we’ll see very positive numbers but it’s still early days in terms of long term safety data. Again it’s great we have a vaccine. It would be even better to see alternatives to those so people who are conspiracy theorists, medically unable or simply reluctant to have an ‘experimental drug’ be given an option. From what I can read the areas who have embraced Ivermectin as an early treatment have had few cases and a noticeable drop off in numbers. Yeah there was the research paper from Egypt which looks like it was really badly conducted and reported trial and speaks more of the authors than the treatment being trialled. -
I see you’re using rhe bass cut engaged then boost the bass a little on the Noble. That’s where it really shines I think. It just shifts the low end to the sweet spot.

Did the bass not come with a basic tool kit? There’s normally a hex key set for the the adjustments tucked into a packet in the case. Failing that I t’d be quicker to either just measure the screws or whip out the mini tool kit/multi tool and get stuck in until one fits. Failing that buy a wee hobby screwdriver set with the interchangeable heads preferably one with hex heads too and your sorted for any tweaks to any bass in your collection. It’ll cover saddles, grub screws on volume/tone pots etc. Very handy to keep in the gig bag!

Wouldn't that apply to any bridge single coil pick up by the nature of its position closer to the bridge?
-
I played some of the GuitarGuitar blow out BB's a few years back and the bridge pick up was marred by the 60cycle hum. Ed Friedland make similar comments on how the pick up had a noticable hum too in a review video but loved the bass regardless. But hey it's a single coil pick up so totally expected.

They push on/pull off. It’s as easy as changing a string.

Withdrawn. I want to keep it please. Damnation Audio - MBD2

I noticed Merchant City have one and I’m thinking of a good excuse to go to Glasgow.

I read so many ‘reviews’ on here and on the ‘net which does nothing more than list the specs and make claims about how this product, if it can do X,Y and Z will deliver the goods only to find out that the said bit of gear lives on a shelf, in a rack with ten other basses and never once sees a stage. This is so common on music sites where I’d be surprised if they’ve even played the bass - they’re just regurgitating the press release. I saw it recently with the Dark Ray - it might have been posted on that BC thread about it. Or it’s the gushing ‘review’ followed by the for sale ad a few weeks later citing its pristine ‘unused’ condition.

I’ve had my eye on one of these since the MKII great looking bass and you know it’s gonna sound top notch. Will be looking forward to the verdict once you’ve gotten to play it in anger at some shows.

Nah I opted out to concentrate on boxes and power amps 😀
