It’s a fair point. @Al Krow have you replaced the GR ahead of the gigging season reopening? You must be quite excited to be hauling some super light gear to future gigs as I know it’s your main focus on gigging gear.

Good to know!

Yeah that’s been in the back of my mind. I’d just get my mate in Paris to arrange the deal and he’d stick it in his boot when he’s next over so I guess that’s s be ok?
-
Yeah I’m familiar with the model - it’s just caught my eye, love the colour, the inlays are funny but not off putting. My limited GCSE French suggests he’s up for a change and open to trades with the figure listed as his starting point. I’ve no need for another bass but you know when you get a wee notion and start thinking.

It's a fine pick up. Sounds like a P and doesn't have the mid scoop of 1/4 LB'er. One of the original replacement pick ups for the P bass. I'd be more than happy to have one in a p bass - in fact I did for a few years. If in doubt a Model P is a solid bet. If you want to agonise over marketing spiel and pick up's you 'think' you should have go ahead but when jamming with the band you really want the P bass character and the Model P will deliver. Telt!

Is that a good price or a bit high? Generally speaking

This one does look interesting glad you nabbed it.

Thanks Ben I was being tongue in cheek 😉

Would he have actually played that whole bass part on the track or was this just a look what I can play type video to sell SBL's? I mean I'm not knocking the chops and he's in no way 'gauche' but he's stepped on just about everyone else parts from Chaka to the horns. The MD would have a fit 😫

I was playing with my comp into my Apollo messing with some new DAW preamps and there’s that thing where the bass sound just becomes that bit more ‘professional’ like it’s already been mixed into the track when jamming along to recorded music. Obviously balancing volume counts too but with that wee push on my bass the sound just punched. I love it and f*ck the crowd! I like what my compressor does and I will gladly use it at every conceivable opportunity. If you can’t hear it/feel it/vibe it then that’s cool.

I used an Eden power amp for a while the one with a tone control on each channel. It was a fu*king monster! Sledgehammer power!

I’ve enjoyed listening to VP since the Vollmilch album. I’ve enjoyed Joe Dart’s playing since hearing him on The Olllam album around the same time. I was surprises it was the same bassist on both albums to be fair! VP deserve their success as they’re not an overnight sensation which many folk maybe think they are.

Hipsters! More like pranksters! It’s a bunch of hip muso’s having a laugh and EBMM likely don’t care as the 50 extortionate ‘pieces’ likely sold out in about as many minutes. What better marketing can you have really for the target market. The collectors will snap it up without a care in the world for the ‘marketing’ and the fanboi’s will lap it up. Win-Win! EBMM laughs all the way to the bank! It’s when they release the three band eq model that the jig will be up! Or a two volume knob version to control each coil. Crazy hipsters *tut*

50 people are gonna think they're getting a great bass until they realise they aren't Joe Dart and they're not playing via the Vulf compressor at all times. Not a bass demo but you can hear that signature VP compressed dirty lo-fi crunch. Love it!

Fair enough if anything I said appears off or not of any value feel free to disregard it. You’re posting you opinions and links to your live playing on an open public forum. Watching those videos and commenting on those opinions does not constitute stalking. @ped any views on calling someone a stalker? I jest but you get the point right?

Can I get some clarity for future replies Which posts are you referring to? Constructive feedback citing the things I do on a gig. Dismissing someone who plays fewer gigs that their observations are less valid? @pedSome guidance from the mods please. Cheers.

I don't doubt it's a genuine question but useful how? Would you change your opinion because a world class pro uses a comp live? How many WCP's need to be confirmed comp users before the tide turns? The list of Origin players suggest some do? It echos what was mentioned earlier on this tread. You ask a question, you get some examples but the question alters a little... like the question above. List of players posted including the Killers bassist so then the question evolves... we get the question below. How'd you get on with your search into who uses live and who's just an endorsee? Did you go and have a look? You have started a few threads about compression so you surely must have a pretty solid opinion either way to either confirm or deny the hypothesis or be moved enough to try it in your own experiment live if you really are interested. I will mention this again... You have access to the gear to do this on/off experiment for yourself... with your band... with your gear... at the venues where it will (or will not) make a difference to your sound. I was re-listening to footage from The Century Club gigs on the Sector thread. Why not bring a comp next time you play there when the back line is all taken care of or BoxPark - venues you already have footage from where you can compare if it works for you. If you are genuinely interested you would have used this stuff for yourself ages ago and decided if it was worth using on a regular basis. How many more compression threads and polls do you need to start before you will try it? The main thing I've picked up form so many compressor threads and in practice is that it's a personal feel thing as much as a heard experience. If that isn't important to you than cool but sh*t or get off the pot Here's another video to further prove a point. Feel free to re-word the question after viewing... I’ve played a few gig and my advice to a new aspiring and seasoned pro would be much the same. “You know the tunes, watch thedrummer, relax and keep your head in the game” be that with or without pedals
