  1. I’d say that’s ripe for a few mods. MM in the bridge or even better in the standard mm position give or take a few mm depending on the p route.
  2. Never noticed staggered string through on the back of a Lakland before. BTW my fav fender jazz ‘clone’. I miss my old one!
  3. I should say I’m based in Scotland and things are moving differently in different parts of the country. It’s good to see folks getting back out. I know I miss gigs as a punter as much as I do as a player.
  4. Yeah I don't think anyone has lost the love of live music it's just having access to venues who can actually put live music on! I know our main pub gig hasn't started to have bands yet and when they do we'll happily play all the slots we can reasonably accommodate. As we fit the 'niche' of the venue we are one of the main weekend bands (definitely a result of circumstance rather than talent) but are tentatively aiming for late in the year before we can consider gigs being a regular occurrence which is killing me as I have a new drive pedal which sounds great and I really want to play it live at volume with my drummer. It sounds so good in my front room and I know it's gonna work for me live *sigh*
  5. If you want more oomph on the bridge boost 350Hz and that might fatten it up a bit. Obviously you’d need some sort of semi-para or parametric eq to do this. The rub is it may impact on the p tone but a decent eq pedal might be a good first option (or if you have a DAW on your computer you could try it there). As for a replacement pick up I like a DiMarzio Model J - it’s basically a p bass pick up in a jazz case and has a good mid forward sound over a standard jazz single coil. It’ll give you more grunt and it can be wired in series/parallel so you can have that extra option, won’t require any additional routing so long as your control cavity can handle a push/pull pot for the switching. It’s not an expensive pick up and a push pull pot keeps things tidy.
  6. Is there a noticeable difference with the DG pre? I like the idea behind them and in my head it would tame the MM top end. I know many folk love that but the DG pre reads like a great mod for a MM!
  7. I have experienced that with some pedals where the clean blend doesn’t feel like it’s been well executed so the clean and dirt sound has a sense of separation but not in a full range way. I just nabbed a Fender Trapper bass distortion (not to be confused with the Fender Trapper Fuzz) and it’s got a nice blend with x-over which sounds well integrated.
  8. Good to see he’s kept his toe in music since his Lord of the Dance days.
  9. I don’t wish to distract from the ad. It’s a great bass in a salubrious location. Buy it!
  10. 🙂 I work in a bank.

    New Pedals!

Bass trapper is a different thing. Stacked it can be nasty and you have the choice of nice, disrespectful and nasty between the switching options.
  12. Sorry busy being congenial. I’ll stop bumping your thread.
  13. I have no need for such madness in my life on top of my normal day! The best quotes over the last 24hrs were in no specific order ”33 women have know my loins” “Get to f*ck I’m no a peado but you c*nts are all calling me one!” “Can I have some toast?”
  14. I wasn’t gonna mention the butt mi stuff. I just like to console myself that it’s just good old inoffensive butt milk 😵‍💫
  15. That’s the best headache inducing gif I’ve seen in quite some time😳
  16. Nice subliminal sales work Andy!

    New Pedals!

I nabbed a Bass Trapper from Reverb and have to say it’s a nice pedal for the low gain and “amp like” drive tones. I’ve been messing with it into a very clean amp and it achieves that slightly edgy amp sound easily. Just been jamming along to Sure Know Something by KISS and it’s very easy to get that mid forward fat tube type sound too which puts me in mind of the Bass Soul Food. I had been eyeing up a large enclosure Spark Drive but went for the Fender out of curiosity and it’s certainly a decent pedal. It’s another one of those ones I think will work best when played with the band but not displeasing to play in isolation either. Its a totally different pedal to the Trapper Fuzz! Either channel can be played independently or stacked and the clean blend and x-over are what grabbed my attention over the Spark booster. In saying that I think this can be set up to work like the SB in as much that it can have a pre amp like quality to its cleaner and ‘just pushed’ type low gain sounds.
  18. Let’s hope they apply this same calm and measured approach to lifting lock downs and restrictions. Also it’d be good to know if there’s any breakthrough cases in vaccinated individuals and what the numbers are like. I agree that as the virus mutates it’s likely to become less virulent but more transmissible so the new numbers should not be a cause for undue panic.
  19. Some great research and evidence for the prophylactic use of Ivermectin but no one really want to authorise its use for Covid. Other countries have been successful using it in some instances when people showed up for a covid test and got a positive they’ve been sent home with Ivermectin and the impact it’s having is astonishing. How a drug with a 40 ye safety record, a Nobel prize and over 40 billion doses administered can’t be considered is a tad concerning if cases continue to rise. Check out the flccc website for more up to date into. I know there are some FOI requests into the Scottish Gov to find out why it’s being declined use in this instance.
  20. The idea of the ‘the struggle’ romanticises most art forms and it’s often the inspiration/catalyst of the work produced. Most artists, writers etc will have had to endure the lows before the highs. Without quoting Common People by Pulp there’s likely many privileged folk who wish they had a bit more hardship as they believe that’ll tap them into something inspirational to give their particular art form more meaning/authenticity etc or it’s a great excuse for other artists to explain their lack of imagination/skill/success etc. Its in our nature to use the excuse of having or not having as the reason for our own lack of success or the reason for someone else’s success. The tales we tell ourselves to reinforce our bad choices, lack of talent etc etc.
  21. If I had that much command of my instrument I’d be pretty pleased every time I played too.
  22. Due to a massive backlash incited by the ‘Boston derived Power Ballad’ Grunge became the emergent genre in mainstream music from the 90’s… despite the questionable weather in the Pacific Northwest. The importance of Twin Peaks, damn fine coffee and cherry pie remains under scrutiny at this time. If you have any certified facts about musical movements or genres please include them for the new user.

  23. The JMJ is a wonderful bass. The neck feels great as in chunky p bass but with reduced dimensions- super comfy. The tone is basically like a p bass and I too quickly became a fan of the stock flats. I do love my TI jazz flats but the Fender’s work really well. I’m interested to try the Mustang ones by LaBella but honestly the Fenders do a great job. Stick some round wounds on for a more gnarly tone. There’s something about the JMJ and the black model is just as vibey as the Daphne blue. Would have looked great on his NIN’s gigs!
