As ever the price of any piece of gear is what someone is willing to pay or what the seller is willing to accept. Be it an over priced bass or an underpriced bargain. There’s examples of both and that’s not to say some folks aren’t chancing a high price for a ‘desirable’ but relatively inexpensive and not uncommon bass. A more sinister example is the amount of ‘pictures of a play station 5’ for sale on eBay recently. Although the sellers are clearly stating in their ads that it’s only a picture of a PS5 bids are up in the £500+ region as many folk aren’t reading the description and desperate to get their hands on one. Total d-Ck move considering the financial hardships many have experienced over the year.

To be fair if you were the seller you’d be on here saying some c-unit was just on FB haggling me over an already decently priced BB 😀
-
Sounds pretty raw and unprocessed (in a good way). Quick email to the BTW guys and I'm sure they'd share the signal chain. I think BTW may have a video on this bass too - they do say it's their fav jazz and it get's a lot of playing especially on the earlier stuff.
-
Yeah I’ve done this on a Sandberg VM with great results. Just check your truss rod, adjust the nut width as necessary, opt for a tapered b string set and you’ll be good. I really enjoyed having the bead set up and it makes a lot of sense for many folk.

Tidy work

@Biggsy2 you’d be better off posting in the wanted section as it might see more traffic
-
Yeah you look at the pic's again of the BBz you can see what I mean with the cam design and how the string doesnt always 'break' like on a normal bridge
-
It's a tad unrealistic to compare a Ken Smith nut in the same sentence as a Yamaha 424/5 or many other basses for that matter Actually that's a great point in relation to the pre-amps - how does the KS pre-amp compare to your active Yamaha's? Are there discernible differences that are clearly heard? I know that the KS has some switches and trickery going on under the hood but I'm not familiar with them enough to know if that's model specific or if all his pre's have the same switching and fine tuning available across all his basses.

I've been tempted by the Babicz Z sereis for Fender style basses - more traditional looking but never got round to trying one.
-
My only thing with the Babicz is if you palm mute a lot - how the cam wheels work by design is you have to mute a little further along than on a more standard bridge. In terms of set up the Babicz is so easy and a great design. I had one on a jazz bass. Easiest set up ever! @AndyTravis yup still have it and the wiring transformer all hooked up so you could have the mid selector for both or swap the existing one to a black one. 🙂
-
These basses do sound fab. I nabbed the pick up and transformer hoping to put it into a 51 p bass but don't thing it's as viable an option as I'd hoped. Does that justify getting another one? The JC looks massive on me but the sounds really is cracking. The bridge up grades both look great but sounds like the Babicz might just have it?

We’ll ignore the one star review - it was likely from that tech in Edinburgh 😀But I’d agree sometimes the money spent on a good set up is a better option. Imagine buying the just a nut and the grooves still not being the correct width.
-
There’s a tech here in Edinburgh who hates the Just a nut. I recall him bemoaning them at length when I had a corvette in getting a once over before a recording session with an old band.

Solid advice!
-
I’ve had to learn Footloose for a previous band - its got some great wee runs especially that bit before the break down. I thought it was widely know it was an NE part?
-
Only seem to be getting it in mono - left side. Headphones are working fine on other audio. Anyone else? It’s a comprehensive demo so top work!

Yeah it was something I picked up in getting into more studio based stuff/eq geekdom. I had a Noble for a while and cutting the lows with the low cut switch but then boosting lows appeared to shift the cutoff bump and made for a really nice low end - certainly cutting but giving enough of a boost at the ‘new cutoff frequency’ point post shift to where it tamed but musical. @mcnach I’m not sure if you tried the Broughton HPF/LPF when I had it but this does appear to be a great refinement to what was already a useful pedal. I did loan it out to a few fellow BC’ers but not all of them were in a position to appreciate the function of the pedal back then inspite of becoming somewhat ‘expert’ since. Once we figure out these things they can be very useful tools especially the ‘soft knee minus three’ rule which is how I came to remember what the diagrams posted above were showing.

I’ve a Red Witch Zeus but it’s basically an oc2 circuit with clean blend (and the fuzz circuit of course) as far as I can hear it. The more sub you give it the more of that oc2 ‘synth/sub’ thing it does. I find it very pleasing and it does have the quirk/glitch as some octaves do it’s fun and full range (as a sub/fuzz) and integration with my stomp fx loop is bang on on both sides. Not sure if you’ve tried any of the red witch dual bass pedals but I’m guessing the sub side is the same on the factotum too. Worth a try!

Some VERY good news at last - live music back by the Spring?

Yeah we’ve not seen and are unlikely to see any updates on potential transmission from vaccinated folk yet (and I understand it’s too early to expect any numbers at this stage). I know the advice at my work (NHS hospital site in Scotland) is not to assume that you’re O.K. and to continue to follow precautions etc. -
Yeah I only really mucked about on the TRBX in a shop but recall thinking that the switch was a neat idea. Sandberg have a similar thing in their Umbo model. I guess it never really took off or more manufacturers would have employed it!
-
I think there was some chat a while back that the Series 2 BB’s were appealing to many because they didn’t sound like Fender clones (or indeed put folk off because they were a hotter, more strident voice overall compared to their Fender counterpart! Folks whom loved the Series2 BB’s might not have been so keen on the Series 3 while more ‘Fender prone’ players might have saw the Series 3 as a refinement and a more traditionally voiced bass. As ever this may or may not be true for you! 😀 I played those TBX basses when they were released and while the look didn’t appeal I recall the selector switch being an interesting feature for ‘pre-set’ tone choices. I guess that it’s a nice gimmick and is basically some mid range trickery but if I recall it was only available in one of the model ranges.

Maybe you should edit the thread title ☹️ -
Check out Dodi’s albums he’s got some great tunes.

I’ve heard a demo or two from a new owner and the way the pedal retains clean/lows sounds like it’d really stand up and support a trio/ground the rhythm section.
