  1. I’d have to agree that some, well most, on board EQ’s are simply too much especially in terms of amount of boost. Who needs 15dB of boost or cut especially on a bass frequency? I often wondered if an on board EQ could be made with a maximum of 4 or 5dB boost/cut across the taper of the pot. I know we don’t have to wind every control to ten but having a limited range of boost cut across the taper makes sense to me. On a sweepable mid control it would be good to have numbers such as those on a vol or tone control showing the region being boosted or cut. Putting some mid frequency points onto a knob shouldn’t be any more challenging than adding 1-10 or certainly not difficult to add some information in a subtle way. Some companies offer a three way mid select switch which is handy. A reason I like the tone styler pot is it’s very easy to recall a setting and it’s passive! The TC BH amps have a clever eq but I don’t think we’ll see that in an on board eq just yet.
  2. Yup if you run your DAW and record a bass track you can apply an EQ and see the eq curve dancing away on playback. I've just been doing that with some 'new to me' jazz pick ups. Always handy to know where a particular instruments has it's EQ peaks and troughs. I had three p bass which all had visibly different EQ when put through this sort of 'testing'. Meant I had a better understanding of each from an EQ'ing perspective. One had quite a bump at 500Hz, one was quite pokey around 300Hz etc. Sure we can hear differences in some basses but it's good to know based on actual evidence if changes are needed to fill things out/cut out freqs on a gig.
  3. Good question @Al Krow OK so hands up who's actually signed up over these last few weeks and how are folk getting on with it? Be good to hear progress stories and such.
  4. Thing is if it makes it's way back to Kenny's they can just resend it. Best case scenario!
  5. That’s quite the range!! Some great colours in there!
  6. I’ll check these guys out for paint if I decide to redo my ‘tweaker’ bass!
  7. The blue model accepts XLR in so ideal for hooking up those HX units and classy preamps. Still hovering over a blue one on amazon for under £30. Be great for night shift noodling.
  8. This is £150 posted for both? That’s cracking! It’d be worth buying an OLP just to put these into!
  9. No the studio version. You’ve taken a shine to your new sound because it’s new and different. It’ll become the norm/mediocre in a week or two. The joy of ampeg tone on albums is that it always has that vibe but always mixed for the respective albums. The Bronx, Jimmy Eat World, Hole etc etc all have that ampeg sound but it fits in with what they do when mixed to do so.
  10. Celebrity Skin is a good ampeg tone
  11. Latest pedal board update...
  12. I was gonna mention this too. There were indeed two 51P’s but if I recall they were for a guy in Sweden and possibly custom requests/orders. I’m surprised they never made the range. I’m still awaiting my custom coloured bass as a thank you for the inspiration 😉 As for active eq ghat Superlight benefitted from the active eq as it was a bit lite in the lows for what you’d expect in a heavier bass but that was the beauty of it. It could be easily eq’d at the amp too of course.
  13. ‘Young master’ krispn??? Maybe if I was 17 or 18 yrs old bit c’mon man I’m in my 40’s🙄
  14. Now you’re tempting me into getting one!
  15. I have a P, a J and a Mustang ...for the smaller stages of course, not because I’m a massive hipster 😀
  16. I did do a search and while tempted I have a few items I can use for headphone practice already. The blue one would be handy if one wanted to use their amp DI out or a preamp with Di/helix or wanted to practice vox with bass and backing tracks etc. I look forward to hearing how folks find the units and I’m sure the ‘new cake day’ thread will be up and running soon enough 🍰
  17. Stick it in a bum bag! You can keep spare batteries in there too 😀
  18. Can I just add I’ve nothing to do with this offer or Yamaha. There’s a webpage and manual available online if folks wanna go and have a look and have questions answered 😀
  19. The unit is supplied with a mini 4 pole cable so it’s likely transmitting L,R, ground and function. (An iPhone inline mic headset with volume control etc is 4 pole). I’d imagine if your android device has similar functionality with it’s in line headphone/mic it’ll be fine. I don’t own one of these cakes but I’m wondering if they mention apple specifically for the recording element into the Apple based apps. I’d imagine music playback via aux is universal.
  20. @dave_bass5 They also had the blow out on the Ampeg PT-20 and PT-50’s. They’re about an hour away from where I live. And the db bass cabs... As for Kostcutter krispn the alliteration is a wee bit too kkk for my liking but thanks for the thought🙂
  21. I don’t think the red ones were ever £124 new but it certainly doesn’t become less useful just because it’s not 92% off 😀 Shame they don’t have the blue version (which has the higher price tag) in stock as it’s a tad more versatile in terms of inputs. I recall Yamaha having a bit of interest about these when they were first announced and I think they had an initial high price but were cheaper upon release to market. I don’t have one as I use my Apollo interface/laptop for headphone play at home. They get decent reviews though if you have a search.
