Sounds like a great gig. Was it a post 6 Nations gig? We do those every year and they’re good fun ( I’m on holiday this weekend so obviously not gigging but looking forward to the rest of the 6N especially when Scotland have home games!

@mcnach Seen a mooer radar become available locally on the fb group. Still recommend it? I’m downsizing my pedal collection/board but this mooer might mean I can keep two or three pedals in operation and have a decent cab sim for foh on that particular gig and be ’more’ IEM ready for little additional outlay.

You never got the screen sorted on EZDrunmer. It should be able to do full screen no problem. Plus the drop and drag feature really makes life easy. Which daw did you eventually settle on?

A very very late new bass day...and first foray into fives

I’ll second what others have said. It’s a baptism of fire in many respects but you always have the four familiar strings to hand. I found by focusing on my originals bands material initially I could work them out to best incorporate the low b but I did some of those tunes in drop d so that helped as I kinda needed to go to the low D for about 4 tunes. The trick as others have said is ditch the 4 string and if you can work out a bunch of familiar songs and their patterns off the root notes on the b string. This way the patterns remain familiar it’s just the hand position/starting fret is different. I think it’ll all ‘click’ a little easier this way. It worked for me! As an aside I was limited by location for this one and was in discussion with the seller. I love that it’s battered but wanted to play it just to make sure the neck was good. First dibs though right😀 -

I’ve alluded to this in other threads but the idea of a synth bass is far more alluring than actually employing it on a gig. We cover some tunes where a synth ‘could’ work but the reality is that adapting a bass line to work in the context the your band is often preferable to getting a dialled in ‘tone’. That’s certainly what’s worked for me in my bands, confounded when there’s been a keys player too which there has been in one of my main gigging ventures. Sometimes groove, feel and the 1 are the priority. No disrespect to established synth users. I just couldn’t make it fit in my current gigs and accepted this many moons ago🙂

I'm shifting an EBS valve drive and I think it ups the internal voltage with some trickery - it certainly sounds proper valve-like hitting the front end of my solid state amp. It's actually a really good combination!

I think I saw this for sale on FB and was keen. Gimme a nudge if it doesn't work out -
I think that’s all of it 😀 I may end up keeping the Tidal Wave as it really does sound great and it’s a great always on pedal with the overdrive pushed. Does a great rock tone and dialing up the mids and treble along with using a plectrum is just one of the great tones it does. If it gets a bit bright or tippy there’s a global ‘passive’ style tone control to tame it. Cracking!

I run a EBS Valve Drive in front of my solid state amp and it does a magnificent job of making it sound right valve-y. The VD (fnarrp) can be voiced as more modern or vintage via the footswitch so you can go full on jack Bruce or keep it more in check on the modern setting. I've used it as an 'always on' and then complimented it with another drive (Aguilar THDI) basically using the two gain stages very effectively. You can get a proper big drive sound this way which doesn't have to be heavy metal crushing.

I bought one from Josh direct a few years ago and the taxes, import charges etc do add up - I think shipping is a flat rate of $40 or $50 at least! Plus I don't think he has any for sale just now. If you don't agree with the price DM the seller or walk away. Folks choose what to sell their gear for and if the market is slow they will adjust accordingly.

Yup hence the experimenting with lots of cabs - much fun!
