  1. Yeah he’s acknowledged that it’s softer and the range won’t be available in any relic versions for this reason. The super light range are ridiculously light though!
  2. Plus good old insulation tape is another, less elegant solution.
  3. I’ve played them in rehearsal only looking for new tracks for our female singer to do. We do other songs where the original ‘main bass’ is synth. I just play a variation of the main synth lines with a bit of an interpretation of other parts in the song. Just Can’t Get Enough springs to mind. In the choir gig it was the same. I was using eq, drive and comp as my only effects and it was more important to nail the feel than the exact part and generally it wasn’t as important but we did have a synth/keys player too. I suppose what I’m saying is if you’re in a band where you need to ‘nail’ exact tones then it become more important. If you’re trying make the songs fit in with the sound of your band then it’s good to work some classics to suit your (bands) style. I‘m aware of your reluctance to gig pedals and this makes it ‘fit for our band’ approach sometimes just makes sense.
  4. I don’t use much live apart from eq, comp and some low gain and it sounds right with our band style - if you ‘need’ the effect fair enough but for the most part just play it cleanly and well and respect the groove and it’ll work. I listened to a podcast with Charlie Puth’s live bassist and he was on about his live tone for Attention and I immediately checked out the live track - bass sounded quite high end-y and not the great a bass sound. Did it blend with the keys part? Not really to my ear. Again if you don’t use that much in effects live just nail the groove the other stuff is all icing on top.
  5. Those frequencies any good for slap? 😀
  6. If you have exposed pole pieces a really simple tip is to cut some small strips of card, remove the pick up case and lay the card either side of the pole pieces and once you replace the cases it should make the pole pieces sit level or ‘just’ below the casings. Very simple and effective.
  7. So in summary we can say the Quad Cortex is an expensive unit, not dissimilar to other high end processors. Taken in the wider scheme it could potentially be replacing multiple items which collectively would have a similar total value. Plus it’s new and shiny and kids are a financial abyss!
  8. If you have the stems I’ll bash together a mix for fun. 😀
  9. Get’s real upfront!! That drive switch makes the difference but you’ll need to run it at 18v. I gigged a Monique for a couple of years. Wonderful combination!
  10. Said that about a few groupies back in the day!
  11. The IronCore just adds that bit more character which is no bad thing. Have you taken the output from the ‘DI’ out with the high gain engaged into the front of the amp yet? It really comes alive into the amp and pushing a Monique. Oh suits you, Sir!
  12. Just an update - VVT loom/pots included. Found my multimeter and can report that the pick ups resistances are: Bridge 8.1Kohm Neck 7.4 Kohm
  13. If only Chase Bliss has more fan bois to jump in and defend the price 🤣🤣
  14. Yeah it is! Same way a Kemper is expensive as is an AxeFX is. DG pedals have always been top end prices. Sure they’re good for many folks and especially the heavier genres and I don’t think I’ve read of many, if any product failures. The latest, newest gear will always have a cost due to its latest chip set, cutting edge this and that and hopefully it’s sound quality. The product looks great as does its integration, innovations and its overall Darkglass ‘sheen’ but you’re not seriously gonna say £1500+ isn’t expensive? I’ve used some DG pedals and they’re good, the AO being my preferred pedal in the range. I’ve tried out some Neural software plug ins and again they’re easy to navigate, well designed but not tones I’d really gravitate to in my gigging environment. And as for price I’m happy to throw a wedge at a piece of gear I really fancy trying out and have done so in the past. Identifying that something is expensive isn’t a criticism as much as it is a statement of fact- DG gear always tends to be spendy!
  15. No criticism on the size I’m 5’5” and gig’d one no qualms. They sound so good, you can hear why they have become a Nashville standard session bass.
  16. Total p bass killer if you can handle the body size. Super comfy neck, mid switch selector absolute banger!
  17. Nice idea with the pick ups. It looks like Reverse p, normal p and neck
  18. Wonderful integration and the logical step in this type of unit. I’m not in the market but damn it does look pretty well thought out.
  19. There’s a cracking reggae tune I stumbled upon on a comp album and I’ve not been able to find it since It’s got this ascending into part on keys which makes me think of a spider skanking up the keyboard. Anyhow in lieu of that here’s a fine tune form some guys from upstate New York https://youtu.be/QXtjAPJ_fLM
  20. Yup I’ve owned a Combustion and a Super PZ5 was my main gigging bass for about 5 years. The Super P was much more suited to my ear tone wise, not quite as modern.
