A couple of TC Spectracomps would give you a lot of options as to how each were configured at the front and end of the signal chain and you’d nab both for under £100 used - not an expensive experiment plus they tend to have decent resale appeal! Or combine one with a more fancy comp such as a Cali CB or one of the many many comps available!
Flats can do wonders to the tone and feel of a bass. Folks often overlook how important a string change can be to get a different sound. I love TI flats and have Reid a few different brands but keep coming back to them. The feel, tension and tone all work for me. The Fender flats aren’t bad either but that statement could elicit some objections!
There’s one going local to me for £130. Great sounding amps the old SWR. A rehearsal room here used to have a 220w head and it sounded great! Can’t recall the model name.
It’s difference in the manufacturing of the pick ups as the materials changed during the switch over to CBS ownership- I’ve alluded to it earlier in the thread.
I’m gonna be doing a double reverse P all passive possibly with a four way rotary switch with bridge, both series, both parallel and neck. It’ll be passive with a simple tone and likely in a CV Precision. Not unlike this but a 4 string
One of the nicest 5 string profiles I’ve played.
The Dingwall Super p does a really authentic p bass sound. Maybe a tad modern due to the neodymium mags but don’t worry no one is really listening that closely. It was very easy to make it work in a band.
Hey Brian. Sorry about the delay was on 7 nightshift finishing on the 30th then a late Xmas party and nye gig. I’ll get some posted within the hour when I get back home
Was that in the Glasgow or Edinburgh store? I’m planning on a wee trip to play some basses in there over the holidays. I’m in Edinburgh but the Glasgow shop has a much better bass selection.
