  1. Regarding the actual specifications, the speaker manufacturers should be able to quote operating and storage conditions. Condensation issues can be controlled by placing the cabs in a sealed bin-bag if they really have to be moved from cold storage straight into a warm humid environment. Bear in mind that while a cab cover will provide physical protection, no amount of insulation will keep it warm when stored in a cold place. Insulation can only slow down the speed of heat transfer (cold or warm) but ultimately everything will end up at the ambient temperature.

I guess there is no such thing as a 'standard' artist/celeb so perhaps it,s not surprising that some end up with inflated egos and up their own arse, which is a real shame because what's the point? They've already been elevated into multi-millionaire star status by their fans so would it really hurt that much to give them a bit of slack when it will not materially affect their own lives one iota? Just a bit of graciousness by way of thanks really. Of course he is legally entitled to protect his stuff but having the law on his side doesn't mean he isn't also just being an arse.

  7. The number of times we get posts on here asking 'basic' stuff about ohms of multiple cabs suggests that there are quite a few people out there who don't know this stuff. And why should they? - we're not born knowing about Ohm's law so we have to learn about it and asking questions seems perfectly reasonable to me, as is proactively explaining such things as in this example. I wouldn't worry about it, she's the one with the problem.

  11. Speaking of suing, perhaps there are some lawyers out there who could confirm or correct my understanding that you can only sue for substantiated damages. Thus, for example, if I was playing football (fat chance!) and broke someone's window I could only be sued for the cost of the repairs, i.e. compensation for what was actually lost. I couldn't be sued for £1m just because the window's owner got stroppy about it. So, how exactly do we think Prince has been damaged by people posting videos of his gigs on YouTube? Not vague, fanciful, or hypothetical damage but actual substantiated and provable damage.

  14. I know what you mean, but who would want a 'brick' of a mobile phone or a computer running DOS these days? My attic is full of stuff that is all in perfect working order that nobody wants any more. Vintage amplifiers are the exception rather than the rule.

  16. I doubt that any glue will work unless you have unpainted brick/block walls. All the glue will do is fix the hanger to the paint or the wallpaper and I wouldn't trust either to hold my bass.

I suppose there must be some people out there who embrace change and the opportunities it can bring, but mostly we only hear about people whinging about how 'fings ain't wot they used to be' and how it would be wonderful to turn back the clock . . . pubs, village shops, high street shops, milkmen, vinyl records . . . .

[/quote] That's a very enlightened viewpoint, though one that people in general don't seem to subscribe to. The popularity of progressive taxation would be one example where society deems that rich people should pay higher rates of tax than anyone else. The thing that intrigues me the most about this is if Prince is so concerned about people posting smartphone videos of his concerts, why does he bother to gig at all? Is the money really that much more important than the music or is it some sort of power madness thing?

[/quote] Yep, that's pretty much my take on it. I seem to recall that The Grateful Dead also used to actively encourage audience recordings. I guess whatever he does there'll be a hardcore of fans who will buy all his releases and fund his no doubt very nice lifestyle . . . . which is also an argument for not bothering with this sort of thing in the first place. Perhaps the ultimate musical indulgence would be a superstar muso claiming their music is so precious that it will never be recorded and will only be played live in secret one-to-one sessions for individuals who can pay a hundred grand or so for a private performance and the rest of the great unwashed are not worthy.
  20. Alternatively, it could be argued that you only need to 'put on a show' if your music is not enough alone to entertain the audience. Look, there are no rules. We do what we do and some will like it and some won't. No big deal either way. I think M-Bass-M makes a lot of good points. In the 'good old days' music was a fairly rare commodity and live bands were the only way to get to hear it. Since then, every technological advance has been another step towards music being ubiquitous and, pretty much, free. Heck, these days people can walk around with more music in their pocket than they could reasonably listen to in their entire lives! Against this sort of background is it any wonder that it's such a difficult way to make a decent living? Might as well 'go amateur', pick and choose your gigs and just play for the love of it. But the genie is out of the bottle and no amount of whinging and whining is going to get him back in there.
