I recall reading about a well known music producer (can't remember his name but was in the SAW/Cowell league) who would insist on doing something similar to get on the credits list so that he could get a share of the royalties.

Arbitrary opinions on gear are quite dangerous?
It is the internet and you can only take at face value the position the poster purports to have ..
Indeed. As was the case before the internet. It's a life experience thing. -
Epiphone (Ep-ih-fone) NOT Epiphone (Epiphany)! Gibson (Gib-sun) NOT Gibson (Jib-sun) Squier (Sk-wire) NOT Squier (Swk-ear) The list of mispronounced brand names is endless!
It's just a matter of emfass-iss. (Not bass-related, but my all-time favourite is Kawass-aki )
I'll come in again. . . . Ah! And another one! You guys certainly contain some wit.
Oh dear. The perils of coming in halfway through a multi-page topic.
Pink Floyd are like a hobby. They take time. If you're married, forget about it. Definitely single mans music........
Depends . . . Mrs FF is a big Floyd fan and loves to hear it blasting through the house.

Sounds like you have a big difference in the input levels between your bass and your iPhone. Do you have a particularly 'hot' bass and do you have the input gain switch in the appropriate position?
-
Yeah, fair point, and a better way of phrasing what I really meant. I suspect he would have screwed up his well-deserved 'legend' status, especially if he had stayed with Yoko. Artists like Bono and Morrissey have not done themselves any favours, beyond their hardcore fan base of course, and I could easily imagine Lennon having gone the same way - probably even more so. But it's all moot now.
It takes me all of 5 minutes to set up, less than the drummer needs to set up his cymbals.
Exactly. I'm pretty easy about gear sharing but I always take my own stuff anyway so that I have everything covered and I'm not dependent on anyone else. If it turns out I can use other gear then I just leave mine in the car.
I actually find the timing quite tough on some of them, due I think to the slowness and lack of notes being played as I like a busy line.
I've never really thought of Pink Floyd when looking for a 'busy' bass line. Even the aforementioned 'Money' isn't really that busy.

This could kick off an "interesting" debate
flyfisher replied to bassist_lewis's topic in General Discussion
Perhaps it's just a matter of focusing on the music or on the instrument? A recent topic discussed the bass line to "Something" and seemed to generally conclude it is a wonderful bass part. The fact that it's also part of a pretty good song probably helps as well. But, put a single bassist on a stage and ask them to play a bit of bass then it's unlikely that the "Something" bass line would go down particularly well. Taken out of context of the song, the bassline wouldn't sound as good and wouldn't be 'show-offy' enough to hold people's interest - unlike a mini slapfest. Conversely, most of the very skillful and lightning-fast slapping we've all seen demo'ed wouldn't work within the context of a song. I think. There may be examples but I can't think of any. I guess it all depends on what you like. Bass, for me, is all about supporting the song and sometimes 'simple but strong' is what it's all about, rather than bass solo virtuosity. But, hey, it's all subjective and there should be no rules. In the words of the song: 'if it feels good, do it!' . . . . just don't expect universal applause. -
The drummer gets to hit them harder, which means he's more excited, which I guess makes everyone else more excited. All I know is, practise is a lot more fun, and feels "heavier" when we're all turned up. Also, to be fair, the snare drum sounds a sh*t load better when it's hit harder.
That makes a lot of sense and makes me think we need a more exciting drummer . . .
-
I play drums in a few different bands, and we always keep it quiet except for my rock band where I absolutely smash them, because this way everyone has more fun. There's nothing wrong with rehearsing loud as long as you have ear protection!
I've never quite understood the appeal of turning up so loud that you have to then wear ear protection, which reduces the effective volume anyway. It's like replacing domestic light bulbs with 500W halogens and then wearing sunglasses.

Interesting topic. We don't bother too much with our sound during rehearsals and just plonk stuff wherever convenient and easy. We then concentrate on playing stuff correctly, which is enough of a challenge for us most of the time! But I confess that I sometimes think we should have an occasional rehearsal where we only concentrate on the technical set up, monitoring etc.

If only 'groove' were so simple - we could all just buy the appropriate pedal.

I've often wondered how Lennon would have stood the test of time. We'll never know, of course, but I suspect it wouldn't have gone well and his 'legend' has probably benefited from his sad and cruel early demise.
The 'top nut'. Meaning the nut.
Ah, now you're moving into redundancy territory, of which 'PIN number' could well be the classic example, though others abound.

. . . and that's before we even get onto the use of the word as a verb.

As a general rule, preamps should give a flat frequency response with the tone controls set to zero - usually (but not always) in the centre of their travel and sometimes marked as '0'. But, having said that, you're probably better off just spending a bit of time playing around with some test recordings until you get the tone you're seeking and not worrying too much about whether a particular preamp will colour your sound. Keep a notebook handy to record all your settings so you can recreate them later (unless you have a better memory than me!).

Good point. Such things just imply time-wasting to me. If I see such an ad I just ignore it. Same as ads with 'POA' instead of a price (not on BC, obviously - and a good thing too!).
Now that really IS a novelty song ...
I guess that's what you get when you put the original songwriter together with a bunch of wannabees like this: Alexis Korner : vocals, Tipple, percussion Peter Frampton: electric guitar Nicky Hopkins: piano Steve Marriott: electric guitar Keith Richards: vocals/electric guitar Rick Wills: bass guitar Terry Stannard: drums

Is there any reason I SHOULDN'T run these 2 cabs together?
flyfisher replied to Wooks79's topic in Amps and Cabs
If you're worried about connecting both cabs and it's mainly the look you're going for (and why not? ) just plonk the 610 on top of the 115 but only connect the 610. It's bound to be loud enough on its own! -
Surprised no one has posted clips of JJ Cale songs being covered, most of which would probably be better known than the originals. But here's a favourite cover of mine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUYo8PeO96g
