Phone keyboards are cr@p because of their size - mind you, kids seems to be able to type very fast on them. Generational thing perhaps? I guess configurable 'control surface' hardware add-ons will be available untili the old school have all retired.

Cool and definitely the way of the future, I reckon, for all sorts of things. A physical control interface is expensive to manufacture whereas a software controlled one costs almost nothing to mass-produce, is more flexible and very easily upgraded. And now that touch screens are fast becoming ubiquitous we're bound to see a lot more of this sort of thing - and not just in the music world.

Who goes to a band to listen to the tone of the bassplayer - apart from other bassplayers perhaps! I've seen bands (without a desk) set themselves up by each spending ages fiddling with their amp and pedal settings until they are all individually happy and then start playing without any reference to the overall mix for the audience. I guess they sound good to themselves on stage but the results can be crap for the audience.

Ridiculous that no one wants to adopt this. Connect it to a pair of old but decent speakers and it will provide a far better sound than most PC speakers. Use it with something like an Apple Airport Express and you have a cheap but good audio streaming solution for all your digital music. If I was near Leeds I'd have been knocking on Fumps' door by now . . . .

If you mean a simple splitter cable then I'd be wary of that arrangement. Probably not a good idea to have both basses connected in parallel to the amp input. Worth a try, perhaps, if you happen to have a suitable cable, but I'd prefer a switching arrangement that only connected one bass at a time to the amp input.

It's an opinion - nothing more, nothing less. Agree or disagree (or don't give a toss) and move on.

If the device is a simple, passive switch box then it would be able to do what you describe. If you're handy with a soldering iron, it would be a simple task to make one yourself with a few bits from somewhere like Maplins. Even using good quality connectors should leave you plenty of change out of £20.

By debating all the good/bad points of fenders compared to other brands, this topic seems to missing the most important factor of all - iconic status. THAT is surely the reason that fenders are so popular? There are all sorts of iconic products - want a luxury motor car, then get a Rolls Royce. Want a good MP3 player, then get an iPod. Want a good watch, get a Rolex. Etc, etc. All iconic products have their good points and bad points and all have their competitors, many of which will be better in some respects than the icon in question. But none of them are the iconic products they aim to compete with. Yes, a Lexus is a fine motor car, but it's not a Rolls Royce. I'm sure Sony make some good MP3 players, but they are nowhere near as cool as an iPod. Omega make perfectly good watches, but they're not in the same league as an iconic Rolex. So If you want a bass then you can be sure that a Fender will not only do the job demanded of it - as proved by countless musicians over decades of live and recorded music - but you can also be confident that it will be widely accepted as the 'right' choice and will never be asked "what's that then?" when you open the case. Of course there will always be people who choose to avoid iconic products (and iconic music come to that) for all sorts of valid reasons, but they will never detract from Fender's iconic status. Indeed, they may help to enhance it.

Are we talking RMS watts or peak watts or valve watts or different manufacturer's watts or . . . . (continued forever)?
