SOLD

Hey there I'm putting my MIM Jazz up for sale! It's a four string that I bought it off here and to be honest I don't know too much about it but I'll put down what I do know. All parts P shape 20 fret neck Unknown pickups but they are really bright and clear sounding. Comes with Pickup Cover and Ashtray. Needs a set up as the E string is a bit rattley but nothing major. No major dints or scratches to the bass. Sorry for the iPhone pics, can upload more if needed! I'm looking for [s]£200[/s] £180 complete with hard case. Pick up from Liverpool preferably but will post. [s]Trades considered[/s] but I'm looking for the moolar really! Bass has now had a full set up and plays perfectly!! *edit!* [s]Trades I'd be looking for... similar standard P or P/J 4 string acoustic 4/5 string or anything else really, you never know[/s] I've been asked a bit more about the specs quite a lot and to be honest I don't really know that much, so here's a link to the original thread I bought it from and the info about the bass, cuz thats pretty much all I know!! 6.
If you can play it, write it down and then analyse it, the only thing left is to post it here
Haha I would do if the tab police weren't after me! Only messing, maybe I will try and get it into sibelius when it's done and then you kind old chaps can correct it and send it back to me
7. Thanks for that article, pretty interesting Bilbo - I am playing it, I thought that was a given... just wondering what else should be done with it! Lowdown - that's a good idea too, but I don't really have the gear to do it... maybe one day!!
8.
But i feel your not going to learn anything playing it in different keys if your reading tab as i think you'll be playing patterns as appose to actually understanding whats going on.
Yeah I see what you mean, I do want to get it written down in some form though so that if I ever want to come back to it I've got some sort of reference there.
9. After hearing just about everyone in the jazz world talk about the need to transcribe solos from the greats I've started having a crack at it. So I've started working out the first solo from Maiden Voyage and it's not actually as hard as I thought it'd be (with the help of 'Transcribe!') I'm just wondering if anyone's got an tips to get the most out of the work I'm already putting in. So far I've pulled out one or two of the licks I like, tried to spot the chord tones and play in a couple of different keys. One thing I'm struggling with is actually getting it down onto paper, I'm pretty rubbish at reading music (even though I'm working on it!!) so I've been tabbing it out for now but I know it's not ideal. How am I best tackling this? Or just try to commit it all too memory? Thanks!
10. Thanks for the tips. Major, I looked at your lesson an it looks like good stuff. Would you mind emailing over the files attached with the lesson?
11. Hey everyone, Just wondering, when your playing So What, what else can you play other than D Dorian to keep the improv/walking lines interesting? Thanks in advance!
12. Yeah I did spot it but I'm a bit short on funds and it's only an ebook isn't it? I try and get as much free advice from here as I can and I keep an eye out on amazon for cheap used books! Thanks for the heads up anyways
13. Thanks for the tips, I'll give it a go recording my lines and see how it sounds. I've started jamming with a guitarist and we recorded our last jam and that was helpful to listen back to for the improvising etc but recording solo basslines sounds like a good idea too!
14. Can anyone tell me what bass this is? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkfwREa0Lg8&feature=related Also... gotta love the happiest drumer in the world at about 6:00!
15. I'll add it too my ever growing list of stuff to learn!
16. Cheers. While I'm here... what's the Harmonic minor then??
17. This may be a stupid question... Is the melodic minor scale just the same as a dorian mode?
18. Has anyone got the head for this tune in bass clef? Thanks!
19.
The secret is to respond to the other players (not just the soloist but the drummer, piano player, anyone else etc) in an intelligent way, rhythmically, melodically or harmonically WITHOUT impeding the integrity of the walking line. The walk is the main skeleton of the piece, the interplay adds the colour. If in doubt, stay with the time. I have listened to 100s of hours of Paul Chambers and the amount of time that he spends playing an absolutely straight 4 to the bar is remarkable. His fills account for a tiny percentage of his rhythm section playing (i.e. when he is not soloing). Also, unless I have missed it, PC never went above the octave G on the top string. I have seen pictures of him playing thumb position but never HEARD a single note of it.
Wow thats pretty interesting. In my walking lines I almost always feel like I should be doing something more interesting (rhythmically or melodically) but when I actually transcribe some basslines from the greats I'm always surprised at how much of it is pretty "standard" but obviously just fits the song perfectly
20. I'm sure it is but a little more than I was looking to spend! Good luck with the sale
