Congratulations that is beautiful overall, although there's a couple of details that annoy me about the look, first the knobs, don't like them, they look like something you get on a Made in Indonesia bass, secondly, I find those string retainers bars on the headstock to be both ugly and a pain when changing strings as you need to feed the string under that bar and then it is a mare to keep the string taught as you wind it around the peg for the first time. They've could have done what Fender did and put 2 "dime" trees or angle the headstock more to do without them altogether.

I think easier in the long run. I have a luthier that sets up all my basses for free, his name is me! I bought a 2011 AMST P bass (as well as the exact same colour Jazz Bass 2011) and they needed very little work on delivery from the factory. These basses come with a very heavy string gauge, Fender 8250M wich are 45/65/85/110tw (tapered wound) they sound very good with these basses because the extra thickness of the 110 gauge on the E string gives them a pretty hefty bass presence, but they are not everyone's cup of tea, me included, so changing back to EBMM strings with a 45/105 gauge meant I needed a little trussrod adjustment and a slight saddle intonation. Now I would give you a few tips, you should not really test the intonation at every fret, because doing so, you are seldom going to get a 0 reading. Put it this way, fret slots are machine cut and a builder like Fender would have their home work sorted, so there is little doubt that their frets would be even minimally out of placement. All you really need to ensure is that intonation is measured between open string and the harmonic on the 12th fret. The slightest finger pressure when fretting a note would alter the pitch in either directions, that is why your reading on the tuner can be all over the place, depending on your fretting pressure, as a result I wouldn't go by the fretted note. And rest assured no human ear can tell the difference in pitch between fretted and open anyway unless the sadlles are set way beyond the sweet spot. You will discover that it is impossible to get every single fret perfectly in tune. This is normal. Fretted instruments have a natural flaw where they can’t be perfectly intonated. You can just get really close. If you’re interested in why, look up “equal temperament” or “just intonation” in a music dictionary.

It was expected. Peter Gabriel reissued a new digitally remastered album "So" which is getting good sales, Tony Levin played a sparkly Stingray on that album and tour.... long pause... next thing you know Sterling Ball jumps on the bandwagon, and reissues a bunch of basses which brings nothing new to the industry other than colour combination and and the temporary resurrection of the discontinued Sabre. It won't be long folks until we will see the Cutlass and Cutlass II reappear from Coachella.

Technically it should but... it appears that the way things are EBMM neck pockets have a tendency to be inconsistent along the same range, often too tight or too wide, hence the reason all their basses have shims in the neck pocket. It's a bit of a gamble, if you could try first before you pay, then you would have the chance to see for yourself. My major concern would be the neck fastening screw holes placements, if one of these is out of line you are looking at a tap / glue / redrill job.

Gareth it's a Glokenklang preamp, you can't go wrong.

Believe it or not, the same pickups are in the ABZ and ABII, it's just that they are covered by different look pickup shells. The ABII however is powered by a 2 band Glockenklang preamp, with a push/pull volume knob which switches it from passive to active. Sheldon keep changing the shell designs, in fact the new ABII shells have more of a round edge and so they don't look like mars bars like the ones I have . Yet inside the shell it's still the excellent FD3 pickups which he designs and manufacturers in house, the only difference is that the ABII has a chambered body, fancy x-top wood package, in this case rewood top over a walnut body with a tiny layer of maple sandwiched in between. Extra nice to look at real close. The ABII came with a walnut neck with a wenge f/board which was not entirely to my taste. They use wenge on warwicks and I hate warwick basses with a passion, no offence to wrwks's owners it's just a personal thing, so after a few months of R&D with the "Saint" (Sheldon) he agreed to buy for me [b]on a one off basis[/b] a lump of roasted maple from which to carve a one piece neck to replace the one on my ABII which was the cherry on the cake, the two necks were words apart, if you hit the walnut one with the back of your hand you'd get a thud, do that to the maple one and it resonate into a marimba like low note. Once I fitted it and strung it up with the same old strings to see the immediate difference that roasted mapled would do to the bass, the thing was twinkling harmonics throughout the whole neck, almost at every fret, it had a much more defined sustain and it was like a completely new and better bass. Two weeks later I restrung it with a fresh set and wow, it was like playing an arp. Everyone who played this bass reckons it's a killer now, whereas before they were not that convinced, and always preferred my Super J or ABZ in comparison. but now the ABII is the most popular one and the preamp works really well with it. p.s.: before you ask, Sheldon said that this project will stay [b]a one off[/b] until he finds a better supplier of roasted maple wood because the one he got my one from was very expensive and the material was hard to come by, i.e. scarce supply

If ever you are in London get in touch, I don't have a Prima Artist, but you can try an ABZ 5 maple f/board, and ABII 5 with roasted maple neck and f/board, and finally the Super J/P similar to the one you saw at the gig as you can see in the pic below. Lesson learnt, next time get it checked by a reputable luthier or dealer, but dude, just looking at the headstock logo, you should have spotted a duff. I tried the P version at Bass Direct, and what a nice bass it was, real nice neck, solid and fast, not many issues, except that, in active mode you have tone control but when you go from active to passive only the volume is selected and the other knob does nothing.
