Has anyone here tried these EB Cobalt Strings yet?
Grand Wazoo replied to Grand Wazoo's topic in Accessories and Misc
No one? Oh well looks like I might be the only one to have a go on them in this forum... -
I am sure if you contact Neutrik they would send you a free replacement one, I believe they are lifetime guaranteed Neutrik UK Ltd. Looking for honest opinions on these strings, I fancy trying a set for my American Standard P bass, but they cost as much as 2 sets of normal Super Slinkys so I wonder if the extra cash is worth it. If any of you have tried a set please let me know what you thought of them. Bear in mind that 3 years ago when Ernie Ball launched the "Coated" strings, I jumped on the bandwagon and bought a set only to discover that I hated the fact that the strings felt as coarse as if they were coated in sea salt, and that, they didn't really live up to the extra long life they claimed to have done, so I went back to the Super Slinkys. Thanks for your help

Ah! the american standard are superb basses, I liked them so much I got me one of each last year:

Well that is good news, my setup was merley an indication, but I am glad you are finally able to enjoy it.
I just got a new one from Phil a couple of weeks ago. After some setup adjustment... plays like a dream and sounds incredible. Sold my Status Graphite Retroglide Kingbass for this. This one is also a little unique because instead of the standard Ebony fingerboard, I went for the laminated Maple fingerboard.
So you've fixed it finally? Did my setup suggestions work for you?

This is an update following the new roasted maple neck fitted to the Dingwall ABII aptly named "toffee", this is Maple sweetness at it's best.
Just checked the email I had from them and it says 'The neck has two carbon fibre truss rods imbedded in it, keeping the neck rigid, this also helps eliminate dead spots on the neck and gives an even tone over the finger board'. At the end of the day I think it will feel alot nicer than my £200 Thunderbird.
Congratulations Ben lovely bass, I particularly like the maple stripes on the back of te neck. The carbon fiber thingies are not trussrods but stiffening spears, usually each embedded either side of the real trussrod, you couldn't make a trussrod made of carbon as it is a non adjustable medium with a set tensile strength. Ver nice bass indeed when are you getting it?
Cheers Oli, was wondering when the local Sandberg champion would be along I can't wait to try it in anger then! Glad I got it before Mr Swift did then!
Dave would have probably taken it if it was a five strings and had only the P bass pickup, he doesn't fancy multiple pickup basses recently.

Strangely enough I was there at Bass Direct last Wed collecting my new roasted neck with Dave Swift (Jools Holland Bassist) and I pointed that same bass to him he said he tried it last week and liked it a lot. I have tried the exact similar one in Guitar Guitar Epsom and cannot fault their quality and the fact that they can be just about the only bass which can produce both a very good P bass sound as well as a MusicMan Stingray one. Oh and they have a Glockengklang preamp which is very good too. Beefy sound for sure.
Warwicks, it happened pretty much as soon as I bought one :S
AT LAST, WE AGREE ON SOMETHING!!! -

Unfortunately I can't go any further until tomorrow, I need the correct size tubular wrench to undue the hipshot machineheads and these must be of one of those international dodgy in-between sizes that are not compatible with our uk ones. I have a set of these wrenches but the closests ones are either too small or too big to undo these frigging nuts. Oh well it's a trip to halfords or b&q tomorrow first thing in the morning. Night folks I am off to bed
you should do before and after sound clips
Yeah I should have but... my recording stuff is still packed away in the shed, since the house renovation I haven't been able to get it sorted.

The neck is on already, next will be the machine heads and new strings. fun fun fun
I thought Ernie ball had a patent on this or something
As if...

Yes I prefer maple necks and I specifically asked for roasted maple because I've heard so much good about them.
-
Finally the new Roasted Maple neck for my Dingwall ABII has arrived,[s] it will be fitted this weekend[/s]. Bol-l-ocks I couldn't wait, so I've already fitted it but I need a special key to undo the hipshot machineheads

We'd like your feedback on Neck Wood! SS1 Wenge vs Maple
Grand Wazoo replied to Warwick_Official's topic in Bass Guitars
I've tried very hard to like them but after trying many of them (with money never being an object) I still don't like Warwicks. Sorry. -
Oh and about the knobs, look why don't you contact the Bass Gallery in Camdem, Martin who makes Sei basses can get you some knobs done in the same wood as the bass. You just have to agree on the price with him first (hint hint)

Presents made to self are always the best, I approve! That is one sexy mother///// bass! That a wenge fretboard over the bubinga neck is beautiful and I am glad you didn't go for the model with the gold hardware as it looks so 80's whereas this one is spot on, well done. Yeah lots of sounds with that preamp and the ability to go passive too makes it a great all rounder, and those "tortellini" pickups are very powerful. Enjoy, I want one too now.

Anyone tried a 5string and not like them? And why?
Grand Wazoo replied to Marvin's topic in General Discussion
