Meantime I do have a pic that Sheldon sent me from the factory while the neck was being "treated"

Will do as soon as I get it.

I don't know about MusicMan but I am a few weeks from receiving a roasted neck to go with my Dingwall ABII bass which Sheldon has been kindly building for me, I can't wait. Pics to follow, it will be a standard whole maple neck roasted with none of those tiger striped or birdseye maple effect.
I've had great customer service from Bass Direct, Bass Gear, & The Gallery - you can't go wrong with those three.
There is a big difference in the 3 shops you've quoted in the fact that they are indipendent stores and each are keen to maximise their sales, PMT is a franchise. like McDonalds, if you don't get your burgers from them you'll get it from another McD, so that is their attitude. Indipendent stores know the meaning of competition to survive and as a result they will appear to look after you with more interest at heart.

Bass Strings - How Long Do Yours Last ?
Grand Wazoo replied to BassMan94's topic in General Discussion
Well it really depends on the usage (frequency of use / play) how hard you play them and if you have very sweathy hands. I am lucky that my hands don't sweath at all, infact at times they are almost too dry, and I have been keeping a log on my string changes dates on all my basses (shown below) to see if there is any possible average to go by, but it's useless because there is no pattern at all and this shows you that it depends entirely on how often you play them. Some last me as little as 3 months some last me more a year. I use different makes of strings, Ernie Ball Regular Slinky (45/105) on my PRS, Fender 8250M (45/110) on my Fender's, original Dingwall strings for the Dingers. and Kubicki only strings for the the Ex Factor. (The reason why the strings on the Kubicki were changed so quickly is that I bought it 2nd hand and I didn't have the original strings so I fitted some Ernie Ball but they didn't work well with it so less than 1 month later the original strings arrived and I fitted them and its being going great ever since.) -
P-retro in a Squier 60's CVP. Anyone done this?
Grand Wazoo replied to dave_bass5's topic in Bass Guitars
Dave the control cavity on Squier CV basses is the same as any P bass, the John East P-retro will drop right in no problem. -
sweet! just out of interest Grand Wazoo, what didnt you like bout the book?
The fact that it focused more on the downfall of Jaco than much else and the fact that a lot of the people which were interviewed complained after the book was published because their text was not accurate in particular Pat Metheny was furious.

Graham Maby was great in Joe Jackson band! Brings me back to the best of the 80's with the albums Stepping out, Beat Crazy, Jumping Jive... solid bass work that inspired a lot of my playing in those days. Great memories. Sad news about his wife and having just lost my gf on June 16th last year I can sympathize with his painful loss.
Jumping on the recent "isolated bass track" threads, just found this after following the YouTube suggested links. We do this in one of my covers bands but TBH, I'd never thought it was as busy as it is. A lot of the arrangement covers just how amazing the playing is. Think I need to do a little more to my "interpretation"
stripped to mp3 and imported into my Tascam MP-BT1 yay! Cheers And all because I know a mate here (hint hint) who's playing it all wrong, so I'm going to show him how it's done, hehe. -
P-bass Pickguard - does this work for you?
Grand Wazoo replied to KiOgon's topic in General Discussion
I love it, don't listen to Kaz whoever they are. Problem you have is the white hotrail pickups! Now if they were ordinary pole'd p/ups I would have gone for a contrasting black cover on them (and a black thumb rest too) cause the way things are with a white guard they sort of get lost in the big picture. Nice Ashdwon cab behind that! -
I know I am a bass player at heart, however I appreciate talented guitarists, I have also played guitar myself in some of my earliest bands in Italy, and FZ's guitar parts are impossible to play, you've got to give credit to the fact that Zappa resulted in hiring some of the worlds most talented guitarists (Steve Vai, Adrian Belew, Warren Cuccurullo, etc) for his live gigs where he himself couldn't virtually play at the same time, all the guitar parts he recorded, all this while singing and directing his band just like an orchestra, without a baton, but with a series of hand gestures he adopted that every member of his band was taught to understand, you know weird things (which I read in one of his books) like him waving his elbow to the right meant that the two Fowlers brothers Tom and Bob had to play the theme over his guitar solo, crazy stuff like if he wanted the drummer to play a different tempo he would lift his palm and motion his hand to his chin, these strange signs all meant a different thing and if you didn't do as he directed you were in trouble. Steve Vai was interviewed a few years ago when Zappa died and described how getting through an audition to play for Zappa was one of the hardest thing he ever had to go through. I am one of Zappa's biggest fans, (my username says something about that too) I have seen him playing across Europe about 13 times in my life sometimes I have been on consecutive dates like when he played Hammersmith Odeon and in Rome. I have 99% of his original records on CD, used to have them most of them on LP's. A real genius, but not everyone's cup of tea because of his "dada" or kitch approach to music. The greatest parts of his music with the original Mothers (of Invention) were real masterpieces and light years ahead of his time in technology, Zappa invented the double album, before him no one had them. Quadrophonic recording was also something he pioneered before anyone else. His music might sound like he puked it up in a bad dream but every note and pause was miticolously planned and his band was kept under a lot of stress to perform exactly as he had written it. The live recording of King Kong at the BBC in 1968 is an example: what starts like them sounding like a bunch of drunken fools mocking about, suddenly turns into what is one of Zappa's greatest composition, i.e. King Kong proper. As mentioned Hot Rats is a must have and the track Peaches En Regalia is a piece of music that I thank God he wrote because everytime I listen to it, it lifts my spirit. They're baaaack! (Bass Merchant Colchester)
Grand Wazoo replied to Grand Wazoo's topic in General Discussion
Aww seriously, what was wrong?
Well put it this way, even the bloke who works there is deeply depressed, the company who took them over which is a Disco Lightening and PA rental / sale firm gave them 2 walls and half a room in which to display 47 odd basses (those I could care to count) with a few amps scattered under, and no room to sit and try stuff. Having recently visited the previous Bass Merchant before it went under, I recognised most of the gear on display is very much what was left there before the takeover. Finding the place was also difficult in the end I had to phone them to be directed, you need to find a sign that says Electromarket or something because there's no sign say Bass Merchant anywhere, the guy that works there "Chris" said they've promised him a sign but it's just not happening. What it transpired from the 15 min I was there is that the idea of the owner company is to sell online more than in the store, which is why they don't give a stuff as to what the display space is reduced to. Nice place if you are running a disco club though... but as for a bass shop... even Denmark Street is better. -
