1. Do you mean this one?
2.
Always loved this song - real floor filler Went to see Teena Marie not that long ago and they had a great pair of DJ's playing beforehand. One of them played this & the whole room was full of people singing along. There's an instrumental version as well - useful for picking out the bass line:
Thanks for the link, that's wicked, I had managed to get most of it down by following the harmony and the obvious chord's succession but hearing it without the singing has helped me to fix "gray areas" which I couldn't perceive well from the original version. Ain't that the coolest bassline? Cheers
3. Oh wow, nicely scored those are as rare as hen's teeth
4. They don't make 'em like that anymore!
5. I've had the Big Al 5 SSS now for 2 months and I can guarantee you all I've not had a dull day so far with that monster. The things that bass can do sonically are beyond belief. Vintage passive tones to give you goosebumps and powerful active driving tones to boot, I think this is a bass which you will find hard to put down, Ed Friedland review is great but it's only limited to his playing style: it's not all snap, crackle and pop, rest assured, this can be as deep as you want it to be, or as bluesy / jazzy / punk / new age / grunge / as you need. All in one single bass. Also do not understimate the "funny looks" because regardless of the fact that it looks pointy and "Jetson's" like, the ergonomic has been designed in a very crafty way you see? The body it's actually quite small and comfortable, it sits tightly in your graps allowing your arm to reach the neck up and down with extreme ease, which I think once you play it, you will recognize that as a great advantage and that alone is a great selling point for this clever bass. Enough said.
6. And Gareth is my echo delay hahaha
7. I have the Little Mark Tube 500 Watts and in my views it provides you the best of both worlds, in what it can give you an excellent clean sound and a very vibey vintage warm sound too. What it doesn't do is give you clip or distortion which is what the Little Rocker does very well, but the problem with the Little Rocker is that while noise and distortion is it's forte when it comes to clean smooth sounds it lacks oomph and clarirty. The best way around, if you chose to be wanting distortion, is to use the Little Mark Tube together with a good pedal such as the Tech 21 Sansamp VT Bass, the two together make the amp widely versatile.
8.
Impressive collection there mate. How does the jazz rate against the 51p in terms of quality etc ....are all the CV's really amazing? If so i could join you in the all squire vibe!
The build quality is outstanding on all 3 models, I can assure you. The Jazz is the one with the most unplugged resonance, and the Red Precision is very faithful in sound and feel with the real thing. I am now trying to source some clay dots to make it look the part. Overall I am more pleased with these 3 than all the other Mexican and Texican bodged P's & J's I have tried.
9. Welcome to the CV fold!

11. On rosewood fretboards use lemon oil and a toothbrush, on maple ones, use silicon free beeswax and a toothbrsh. End of.
12.
Best Basschat pic ever!!
That.... is a pic of my cabin on the ship ... the irony of it all is that, I don't drink at all, in fact I am t-total, and all those beer crates were "presents" that I got for Xmas from various port authorities reps, agencies rep etc, always happens around that time of the year, other captains thrive on the stuff, personally I'd sooner take the money equivalent or even food supplies instead, but ther you go, they always try to keep you sweet, you see? I gathered them all together and on the day the bass arrived, I threw a party on the ship and gave all that beer away to the crew, 31 of them from deck office to engine room oilers, there was even a couple of bottles for the ladies (guests of course if you know what I mean ) as you can see.
13.
Is the humbucker closer to the bridge than on the stingray?
Yes it is, to allow room for the middle and neck pickup. You can get some really gorgeous tones out of it, one of my favourite is middle and neck in passive mode, tweaking the passive tone control you can get some pretty warm vibes with enough bottom end to shake the floorboards. On the opposite end of the scale if you play the humbucker in series, in active mode, be sure to wear ear protection, as it is thunderous. Sustain is incredible, and the neck is sublime. I've had it since December 2009, and we've had a very cold winter followed by a humid summer, the setup has never shifted, never had to adjust action, neck relief or anything else. It's pukka!
14. Same here, I've got the 25th Anniversary 5 strings HSS (1 x Humbuckers and 2 stacked single coils stacked means they have a dummy coil underneath for hum cancelling) It weighs 10.08lbs / 4.76Kg. I've paid £1450 having smuggled it out of the US through a friend. "No income tax, no VAT, no money back, no guarantee", you get the pic.... and not a penny to them customs w***ers either HA! Pics here:
15. If you raise the action you must compensate by raising the pickups too. First you should measure the gap before you raise the action and then adjust them accordingly to match.
16. WWOOWW!! This pedal rocks. Sounds like I've bought myself a couple of new amps rather than a pedal, The character series knob really does give you a great sweep between SVT and Flip Top sounds and a lot more in between. Great played with a pick, or finger plucked. It can do grunge with just a light touch of crunch like Kurt Gobain or go insanely dirty with distortion like that Iron Maiden geezer (I never rember his flaming name, something Harris), anyways: I recommend it. This is a keeper
17. Try a Dingwall!!!
18.
I'm trying to get a good impression of the 'actual' weight of these basses (as opposed to manufacturers guesstimates), do you have a decent set of kitchen scales you could throw your CV on to better inform my possible next (remote) purchase? My local music stores don't have any in stock and I'm likely to be buying used from here or eBay and not everyone can or will be able to give an accurate weight so it would be a huge help.
I have a digital luggage scale with a hook and I also have the very same bass, mine weighs: 9.04lbs / 4.20Kg My Squier CV Jazz weighs: 9,12lbs / 4.43Kg and the Squier CV 50's Precision weighs: 9.01lbs / 4.12Kg For what they are, and considering they all have a HiMass bridge they are all pretty much in the light class also due to their basswood bodies, but then to me it's irrelevant when compared to my Dingwall ABZ which weighs a ridicolous: 7.12lbs / 3.50Kg!!
19. Q.: What do Tech 21 SansAmp VT Bass and David Beckham have in common? A.: They both come in a.... posh box!
20. Dean Markley's NickelSteel Signature Series I am 99.999999% sure
21. Well done on a great choice of bass, colour and model. DV24/7 have always performed well with me in the past, I've just got a Tech 21 Sansamp VT Bass pedal from them yesterday and it arrived an hour ago. p.s.: I have the same squier as yours as you can see in the pic carousel in my signature line.
22.
Because no-one's made a simple drop in direct replacement which affords any improvement?
Is the right answer. Besides, the MM bridges regardless of string through or back strung are made from a very thick plate and have very good hefty saddles which together with the bridge provide a great combo which gives you all the resonance you need and some. Aftermarket people cannot make a better one, simple as that.
23. Classic Vibe wins in my opinion. CLASSIC VIBE: No.1 CV's have an excellent Hi-Mass bridge and brass saddles No.2 They are better built and the basswood adds resonance, and maintains an overall lighter weight. No.3 They are made in a more advanced Chinese factory where Jackson's (Owned also by Fender) are built No.4 Neck / frets on CV's are dead perfect I have tried many and never seen a naff one. VM's just don't look that well made in comparison and they come with the old style bent tin bridge, the neck pockets are lousy (big gaps on one side on a few that I have tried) the paintwork doesn't look that clever either. You decide.
24. Tascam MP-BT1 link here: http://www.tascam.de/en/mp-bt1.html The MP-BT1 is the first MP3 player designed for musicians. Based on the award-winning CD-BT1 MkII, this mobile bass trainer has enough memory to store up to 240 songs. Zip through your MP3 collection using a data wheel, dedicated buttons and a graphical backlit display. Tracks and sections can be looped or slowed down without changing the key to help you learn tricky passages. Songs can also be pitched up or down to match the tuning of your bass, so you don't have to re-tune for every song. The MP-BT1 lets you play along with multi-effects, 7-band EQ and a bass enhancement effect on MP3 playback. A chromatic tuner and a metronome are also built-in. A high-speed USB connection is used to load up MP3s and charge the built-in lithium-ion battery gives you up to 9 hours of playback time (an optional power supply is also available). All of this is packed into a player smaller than a stomp box, so you can carry it anywhere the road takes you.
