Well to me the orange colour does nothing so I agree on that point but before everyone here discounts the 25th or the equivalent Reflex I suggest you remove your Fender blinkers and go try one. Then come back and apologize. I own Fender basses too so I am not biased

Can't help you there, mine's a fiver, but on the official EBMM site it says the width of the original Stingray 4 should be: Neck Width:1-5/8" (41.3 mm) at nut 2-1/2" (63.5 mm) at last fret
The headstock ding thing is not always a ding, but because of the real pointy bit, it wears very quickly in a gig bag. On a related note what are other Bongo owners using as gig bags. My normal bag is a Wood&Tronics one but with strap locks on it is a REALLY tight fit and the bottom strap button seems to stick out and be really thuddy when I put on a hard floor.
This one made by Tribal Planet, it's got plenty of pocket space and even a stand on the back of the rear zipper to hold it upright.
Having not held one and looked down on it I do wonder how easy it is to see what switches are where when holding it. Although I'm sure you would probably learn the sounds over time and know exactly what was where.
Yes matey, they're very easy to see (the buttons) on the HSS model which I have it's even more simple as you have a single in the neck pos, one single in the middle and the h/bucker in the bridge pos and intuitively each pickup has a button. however when all 3 are in the up pos the humbucker is wired in series and the last button switches between passi and active, when passive is on the 4 bands eq is idle but the tone control knob takes care of providing a very nice progressive and smooth roll on roll off of the frequencies. I recommend you try one, I don't buy junk just for the name of it or looks, I really tested it and tried before I fell in love with it. With that one bass I can get and incredible array of similar sounds to: Pbass / Jbass, Rickenbacker / and even an Alembic tone with the 2 singles in active parallel mode. It's a sweet sweet bass. If you are going to the london bash you are welcome to try it as well as anyone else attending.
Sorry if I upset you by not blindly accepting your "the design facilitates good technique blah blah" nonsense and instead making you look a bit daft. I'll shut up and let you rabbit on in future, it's not like anyone was listening.
There are ways to express one's opinion, personally I am new to this forum, I thought this was a friendly place, and for me at least, this place represented a breath of fresh air, being a british forum, it's a welcome departure from those american tw*ts you get on talk bass and every other post with british humour or bristish opinion which they "don't get" they take it as an offense. Having said that, Mr. thisnameistaken, you take no prisoners in expressing your general loathes but by doing so you are alienating the freedom of choice and freedomw of speech that seem to otherwise reign peacefully in this forum. I will make it my goal to keep a wide berth, as I am fond of a healthy challenge not a distructive one. There was no need to belittle Duarte. I am not down with that one. He is my pal.

There is a certain magic hidden in a Bongo bass, soundwise it is a killer bass. The secret is in the combination of the wood used for the body which is Basswood and the 18 Volts 4 band EQ preamp plus the Neodymium pickups. The results of all these factors makes it a bass which is difficult to fault, in both sound and playability. Definately one of the best bass of the Ernie Ball range, I repeat one of the best, not the best. Personally I thought it was THE best until I bought their 25th Anniversary HSS. The Bongo's neck is another secret weapon which is unique to the Ernie Ball range, in fact this is the only EB bass with 24 frets and a radius unique to this bass that makes it so incredibly comfortable to play that every time you picked it up after having played a different bass, you can't help go: "Oh yeah!" As mentioned the pickups are the powehouse that makes this bass break through through the muddies of band mixes. Neodymium is a new very powerful magnet, also used in new amp speakers. Very responsive and in this bass they work wonderfully. FACT: Not everyone is fond of it's shape and headstock - BUT - everyone who I know has tried one has ended up buying it or live a life of misery and GAS withering illness. no more pics, I've deleted them, up yours!

Hi does anyone know with certainty what strings make and model that JJ used? Thanks (on his P bass not on his upright by the way)

I have been biting my tongue reading this, I didn't want to be controversial and respond to these findings, but I agree, a decent Jazz bass sound should pi$$ it, if mixed properly. As said before in other zillion threads, the Squier CV series basses are extremely well made cheap Chinese copies and as a result the pickups issued on these are not the leading edge, slap some decent p/ups. period correct pots and wiring loom in them and you will have yourself a bass worthy of a class similar to that of an american reissue.

I can only see 24. Can you find the other four? Answers on a postcard please....
Never mind the 4 missing frets what about the 4 switches he mentioned? Where are they?

What Do You Guys Do To Maintain Your Fundamental Tone When Using Effects?
Grand Wazoo replied to Phaedrus's topic in Effects
Don't use them.. one channel, two basses, and thats it for me... The only effect I've recently considered is the Tone Hammer which is supposed to be pretty neutral.
Same here except for a compressor needed to avoid dispersion of undertones. -
Very interesting, and thanks very much for the review I was in two minds about buying it, mainly because I have not seen one of them in a shop for me to try and buying effects mail order is always iffy if they turned out to be duff. I once bought an Ashdown Dual Chorus and it was sh|te delux! Couldn't send it back quick enough. Anyway... have you by any chance reviewed any of the Mark Bass effects yet? I have the Compressore and I really rate it. But I am also interested in their Distorsore and I was wondering how it compared with the Sans Amp VT you've just reviewed. Cheers

It's a bit marmite, you get it and you don't think much of it, but then if you don't get it you wonder what you are missing. Fact is... with all the availble info on the net and forums like these, do we really need to read a mag about that new bass and that new amp?

Gus Basses - Anyone tried them? What are they like?
Grand Wazoo replied to Grand Wazoo's topic in Bass Guitars
Thanks for the info, of course I am interested, I shall be in touch with Simon Farmer, see if he can make one fully chromed. It was in fact the last issue ot Bass Guitar Magazine that got me well and truly interested, I had previously seen a few pics and scarse mentions about these basses elsewhere, but after reading that article on Gus guitars in BGM, I have found them most interesting and I really dig the look, I mean if I can like the shape of a Bongo then I should love this one I was interested to learn soundwise, what do they sound like? Precison, Jazz, Ricky's other? or are they completely individual and in a class of their own?
