  1. Yeah I had a 3500 so I’m really used to that sound!
  2. ah you see, that’s kinda what I was hoping to hear - opinions like “yeah it’s actually totally fine!”. I’m just not sure if it’s cuz it’s a familiar sound to me having played a Hartke HA3500 for many years. It does sound good, I just wonder if I’m missing something with cab sims and HPF’s and IR’s and all the other fancy things you can get now. as pointed out, I probably just need to do more testing… I just wanted to get stuck into the recording I guess, so this has been a bit of an after thought
  3. I haven’t no… that would make a lot of sense! I did pickup a hughes & kettner red box which is the cab sim part of the tubeman, I’ve tried it with little amps and it works well. I should try that too and see if it adds anything useful to the vxl. Much experimenting to do!
  4. I’ve got into home recording recently (Reaper) and I was extremely pleased to discover that through various buying/trading/hoarding of gear, I already had everything I needed to get started! I’m using a Yamaha EAD10 to record my drum kit, Hughes and Kettner Tubeman for guitars, I’ve got a rode NT1a for vocals… it all sounds good to me. Bass wise… i happened to already have a Hartke VXL preamp DI, I bought years ago purely because it was cheap. I’ve recorded a few songs and I’m pretty happy with it, good enough for me I think. However, I love tweaking my setup and trying new things! Is there anything that is a big jump up in quality (without going too crazy price wise)? The only thing I notice is the bass maybe sounds a bit less full or real(?) than the guitars… and I think that might be to do with the Tubeman’s cab sim. I’ve got a tech 21 VT to try out but what else do people recommend?
  5. Peavey mini monitors - £50 a pair. Good used condition overall but pretty old now so expect signs of use. Come with the original peavey/switchcraft cables They’re passive and from a quick google somewhere between 60-100w. They snap together for ease of transport (see pics) and actually sound pretty good but I just don’t need them anymore! Collection only Plymouth Trade/part exchange offers considered

  7. Yamaha EMX512 powered mixer in flight case, very good condition Yamaha Club S115V speakers and stands well used and a bit rough around the edges but still sounding great It’s an excellent PA system, just no longer required… Collection only Plymouth - £350 Trade/part exchange offers considered as I always like trying new guitars, basses, drums etc etc
  8. My dream bass rig is up for sale! I’m still struggling with the decision, but it just doesn’t get used now, and I have no plans to ever play bass in a band again. I’m strongly leaning more towards trade/part exchange deals for things I might actually use (basses, guitars etc… but no amps) - 1001rb mark 2 amp in a Boschma rack case, with Korg DTR-1 rack tuner - 2 x neo 4x10 cabs with D2F USA padded covers - Diesel Dawg distortion pedal (same circuit as the 2001RB amp) - 2 x GK bi amp speaker cables, - 2 x Monster prolink instrument cables Excellent condition throughout, and sadly barely used by me, as I stopped playing in a band shortly after I finally put it all together! Collection only Plymouth
  9. Yeah… I want it… yep… I’m broke! Good luck with the sale, I shall be kicking myself about this one in the not so distant future!!
  10. Cheers for the tag, I somehow missed this?! It’s a beast for sure but I already have this finish, so I should probably be sensible! if anyone has a fretless or a rosewood fretboard variation though, that’ll be a different story!
  11. Yeah I had an epiphone guitar with a broken off headstock… I just glued it with gorilla wood glue and then spray painted the headstock. It’s held for 3 years so far. This is repairable for sure… and if I was closer I’d be knocking on your door!
  12. Only at low volume individually just to check they were working, but once I find another speaker lead I’ll see how they are as a stack
  13. That was quick! Cheers guys, do you know what I’m pretty sure I disappeared down that rabbit hole a few years back, reading people’s build diaries etc… no idea how I forget about it!? Must have been one of the different designs, but still… you’d think I’d have remembered something. As soon as I saw the name I was like “wait… oooohhhhh yeahhhh!!!” Is that Bass head logo an actual trace thing then?
  14. Has anyone seen these before, or come across the logo anywhere? Unsurprisingly a Google search of ‘Bass Head’ doesn’t come up with anything useful! I originally thought these were PA bass bins or something but went to pick them up, local to me, and they’re 10” speakers, one cab has feet the other had castors (suggesting they were stacked) they’re plywood constructed, very well made and the inside is lined with foam/wadding. Eminence beta 10a speakers, neutrik speakon sockets… I haven’t checked what the horns are. I guess it could be a well made DIY thing but I thought I’d ask in case anyone knew. They could obviously be more PA/DJ related but the fact I picked them up with a bass combo and a random Trace Elliot foot switch made me think bass
  15. Ahhh of course, that makes sense… well, no it doesn’t, none of it does but you know what I mean. yeah I originally looked at it like; “I wonder if I could salvage the parts”… but actually, I’d rather not get involved.
  16. I’m not sure, I figured it was an attempt to stop that wandering g string (my new band name) but yeah it may be even weirder than that… perhaps the only way to truly know is to buy it!
  17. Uke bass I admire the ‘have a go/DIY’ attitude of this nearly as much as the idea that someone will pay money for it.
  18. I feel like I’ve seen this one before, (maybe not in this classy finish?!?) but it’s worth sharing again for sure. Stand out from the crowd! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225022596022?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=51TubJQGTbK&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=grgAUcadT-W&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  19. very much agree with all this! One of my favourite amps ever GLWTS!
  20. Easy and pleasant transaction with Vin, first class communication throughout, seriously well packaged and a bargain! thanks very much!
  21. you see this is what will end up making me buy one! I dismissed it when I realised that although I just love octave pedals in general, that the OC-2 is still my favourite, no matter how many I buy! I’ve never owned the OC-3 or OC-5 though so perhaps the latter could be worth a try Trouble is I’ve ended up in a weird obsessive quest to try every clone of the oc2, I have no idea why!?
  22. well that’s no fun, I was genuinely interested to see if something like this would sell. I remember seeing Michael Anthony in Bassist magazine many moons ago with his… it’s certainly not a bass you forget! to be honest it’s the only reason I remember his name!!
  23. yeah, I mean he did say in the listing that it just “hangs on my wall as an ornament” - maybe that’s the best place for it!
  24. There’s one On EBay if anyone is interested? I’m not cool enough to pull it off… but perhaps you are!?
