1.
However: 1) Would it make the classifieds less interesting? There's some pretty cool stuff that comes up and, because I can handle my transactions responsibly I personally wouldn't want to deter people from posting ads for interesting stuff. 2) Would it result in basschat being less visible to search engines?
spot on. people have moaned about this time and time again, i was on bassworld and then when that went i didn't realise there'd even been a replacement, i just figured that was that. then one day i searched for the words 'tobias for sale forum' and there it was, only because of the for sale forum. it keeps it interesting having people come on with the sole intention of selling something, you get so many more visitors and ultimately so many more shiny things to drool over, and ok sometimes that can go wrong but it can anywhere. if people had to go through the whole post an introduction then chat for a bit before being able to get round to the reason they went here in the first place, i think alot of them would just go elsewhere. also (as people have probably already pointed out), if you don't like it, don't buy from people who have no posts (like ebay feedback) if i'm buying something i generally check the previous posts of that person to see if they're ok... i don't think any of you would be complaining if some 'johnny no posts' put a wal up for sale at a fiver would you!?
 2. if my grendel is anything to go by have a look at the czech made MTD (michael tobias design) basses (saratoga, kingston heir etc), mine feels really light and sounds and plays great.
 3. some of them are a bit scary but i think the eagle is one of the best looking bass shapes out there (especially in the tobacco burst one that custom shop one up there ^^^ its gorgeous. fact.) never had the opportunity to play one though... one day, one day
 4.
I was just about to send you the link for this bass! Ed
ha! ed you've seen me play 4 string... 6?! really?!? seriously don't reckon i could handle it, i'm too easily confused.
 5.
I agree.... for more trad stuff I'd suggest a Precision, for a more grinding/growling tone I'd suggest a Spector and for a more toppy/clicky Nu-Metal tone I'd suggest a Warwick....
sounds about right to me, also have a look at the bassists in bands you like and see what they use, pretty obvious but it works!
 6.
Even so that's a good price!! EDIT: actually it's suspiciously good... i notice a lot of scammers aren't particularly good in the field of grammar, spelling or punctuation because a lot of them are based in foreign countries, i'd be careful with that one to be honest. I can be pretty cynical as people have tried to scam me in the past but if i was going to buy that i'd go to london and check it out because i'm pretty sure i've seen those photos on ebay before.
and yeah it could well be dodgy, but then surely if you were gonna scam someone and steal all their cash you'd reply to there emails and phone calls!? if he's a scammer he aint got the knack of it yet!
 7.
Naaaah! My old Grendel's a much nicer bass - you did the right thing.
yeah i know... but the heart wants what it wants! loadsa basses!
 8. no way. i saw this on there months ago, but it didn't have pics and was a really vague post and when i called a few times i got no answer so i decided not to bother and bought something else. nuts. would've very much liked this at that price
 9. one set of speaker leads are now sold (and are on their way to you steven, cheers for quick payment)
 10. yeah i've always really liked these, finally got chance to try one in a music shop very very cool looks and some pretty good sounds and my god people aren't kidding when they say they're heavy! a few years ago they were really cheap £250-300 but lately they've been going for some silly money, the one i tried was £600!
 11. 2 x moulded plug jack-jack speaker leads - the type you get with marshall amps £7 for both (inc. p&p) - - - (all leads come with cable ties) ***SOLD*** 3x Vocal mics ***SOLD*** ***SOLD***2 x heavy duty jack-jack speaker leads ***SOLD*** ***SOLD***behringer CT100 cable tester ***SOLD***
 12.
Bumpage folks! - It's a bargain ;o)
it really isa bargain people! please, somebody buy it before i go against everything i believe in and buy a 6 string bass!
 13. yeah, i got given one for christmas a couple years ago... they're really good, and definately improve your finger/hand/wrist strength stamina etc i just always forget to use it! never been that great at excercise...
 14.
I wasted 15 seconds of my life waiting for it to load, and as it hadn't managed it by then, I gave up. Anyone want any Grolsch straplocks? I've got a pretty large supply as I get paid in Grolsch for doing house band duties on Thursday nights.
i would! not cuz i'm too cheap to buy beer i just really don't like grolsch...
 15. click here good points - they're black so don't look as obvious as the grolsch ones and judging by the feedback on his ebay account they work as well bad points - they're just rubber washers which you could probably get really cheap from a DIY shop... and you don't get the beer of course!
 16. really noob-ish question but i've never used straplocks so... do you have to change the strap buttons when you put on any kind of strap lock? cuz from what i've seen some come with strap buttons and some don't. also my brother bought some years ago (schaller i think) for an ibanez electric which you'd think would be pretty standard but the screws were too small compared to what was already there meaning he'd have to fill the hole and re-drill it... so he just didn't bother!
 17.
Do you know how long it's taken for me to hear that? The music shop i bought mine from (it's the bubinga toby pro) knew nothing about it, i emailed gibson, they told me it was a toby pro 5 and sent me a copy of the original ad which mentioned nothing about bubinga.... i emailed them again twice more and they just danced around the question like i hadn't asked it. I have to say, gibson customer service is appalling in my experience. So mine is the toby pro5B custom? (also i don't think it's as bad a bass as matty589 is making it out to be) thanks
glad i can help! i take a very strong (bordering on obsessive) interest in all things tobias - yeah thats a pro5b custom. the 'b' part being bubinga body wings and the 'custom' part relating to the finish and the asym neck... i think the quality control from bass to bass left alot to be desired, i know someone who bought one and he said it was set up really badly and had loads of glue on the fretboard, so i'm not surprised to hear some positive and some negative comments but as i said mine is great so just the luck of the draw i guess! as far as gibson are concerned i guess the toby pro's are way down their list of priorities being that they're so cheap, having said that they still haven't sorted any european distributers for the american made basses so i guess they're way too busy undoing all michael tobias' good work (if opinions on the post gibson tobias' are to be believed)
 18.
I saw some other Tobys in what looked like quilted maple with a gloss finish, maybe they were better?
spot on. the bubinga one is the 'pro6B custom'. the 'toby pro6' are much older, gloss finish ones that were sold through music yo years ago. they then briefly introduced the custom ones and the acoustic toby's (which now seem to have disapeared of the face of the planet, much to my annoyance) then stopped selling them which is when they started to be sold through sound control i think... i've got a pro 4 and its realy nicely finished, though the pickups are still poor as of all the korean tobias', and it doesn't have an asym neck, whereas the pro custom's do. i've never tried one of the custom ones, so can't really comment on it but i have no complaints regarding the finish or sound of mine (for the money), its just that the pickups are very weak. not sure what model dood has but for that money with the EMG's in it (and a hard case), it sounds like a great buy to me
 19.
Stop flirting, you two!
at the risk of making it a menage a trois i think i know what he thinks you're thinking... Fender USA Fretless Precision Bass Vintage 1979 on ebay? i wondered the same thing when i saw it a few days ago. looks really cool though
 20. anyone tried the marvel ones?
 21.
looks, feels and plays like a boutique bass pickup seems great, the preamp is one of the best iv tried, certainly the most responisve, such a vast array of sounds its lighter than my fender 4 string! the finish is just gorgoeus, pics don't do it justice. at the moment, this is my favourite bass to play, i havnt been able to put it down since getting it! for £200, or even the £599 new, its an amazing bass
cheers kev, sounds to good to be true, awesome! i may have to take the plunge
 22.
this now belongs to me
sweet! i really like the looks of these... whats you're opinion on them? playability/build quality/pickups etc i'm still toying with the idea of getting the 4 string fretless version...
