click here good points - they're black so don't look as obvious as the grolsch ones and judging by the feedback on his ebay account they work as well bad points - they're just rubber washers which you could probably get really cheap from a DIY shop... and you don't get the beer of course!

really noob-ish question but i've never used straplocks so... do you have to change the strap buttons when you put on any kind of strap lock? cuz from what i've seen some come with strap buttons and some don't. also my brother bought some years ago (schaller i think) for an ibanez electric which you'd think would be pretty standard but the screws were too small compared to what was already there meaning he'd have to fill the hole and re-drill it... so he just didn't bother!
Do you know how long it's taken for me to hear that? The music shop i bought mine from (it's the bubinga toby pro) knew nothing about it, i emailed gibson, they told me it was a toby pro 5 and sent me a copy of the original ad which mentioned nothing about bubinga.... i emailed them again twice more and they just danced around the question like i hadn't asked it. I have to say, gibson customer service is appalling in my experience. So mine is the toby pro5B custom? (also i don't think it's as bad a bass as matty589 is making it out to be) thanks
glad i can help! i take a very strong (bordering on obsessive) interest in all things tobias - yeah thats a pro5b custom. the 'b' part being bubinga body wings and the 'custom' part relating to the finish and the asym neck... i think the quality control from bass to bass left alot to be desired, i know someone who bought one and he said it was set up really badly and had loads of glue on the fretboard, so i'm not surprised to hear some positive and some negative comments but as i said mine is great so just the luck of the draw i guess! as far as gibson are concerned i guess the toby pro's are way down their list of priorities being that they're so cheap, having said that they still haven't sorted any european distributers for the american made basses so i guess they're way too busy undoing all michael tobias' good work (if opinions on the post gibson tobias' are to be believed)
I saw some other Tobys in what looked like quilted maple with a gloss finish, maybe they were better?
spot on. the bubinga one is the 'pro6B custom'. the 'toby pro6' are much older, gloss finish ones that were sold through music yo years ago. they then briefly introduced the custom ones and the acoustic toby's (which now seem to have disapeared of the face of the planet, much to my annoyance) then stopped selling them which is when they started to be sold through sound control i think... i've got a pro 4 and its realy nicely finished, though the pickups are still poor as of all the korean tobias', and it doesn't have an asym neck, whereas the pro custom's do. i've never tried one of the custom ones, so can't really comment on it but i have no complaints regarding the finish or sound of mine (for the money), its just that the pickups are very weak. not sure what model dood has but for that money with the EMG's in it (and a hard case), it sounds like a great buy to me

Fender USA Fretless Precision Bass Vintage 1979 on ebay? i wondered the same thing when i saw it a few days ago. looks really cool though
looks, feels and plays like a boutique bass pickup seems great, the preamp is one of the best iv tried, certainly the most responisve, such a vast array of sounds its lighter than my fender 4 string! the finish is just gorgoeus, pics don't do it justice. at the moment, this is my favourite bass to play, i havnt been able to put it down since getting it! for £200, or even the £599 new, its an amazing bass
cheers kev, sounds to good to be true, awesome! i may have to take the plunge

this is now on ebay. starting bid of 99p so hopefully that'll tempt someone into bidding for it click here to view the listing (if the link works) or failing that its item number: 280211294620

looks like that but also comes with a small windshield thingy (not the ridiculous pingpong ball one - think we chucked that). its still boxed and in mint condition (although the box is a little tatty) with the instructions and all that it got used for one (11 date) tour and possibly one gig before... can't remember exactly, then the band fell apart... They have these on Thomann for £134.84 think we paid less though (about £115.00) from a music shop our drummer worked for, staff discount i guess... seeing as the band isn't really doing anything now he's given it back and as i don't have any use for it, i'd rather sell it and give the money to our guitarist, whos still owed some money for t-shirts we made. so someone make me an offer... if not i'll ebay it in a week or so.

so shockwave, now that you've had it a while whats the overall verdict? (what i'm basicaly asking here is should i stop drooling over the pictures of yours and just buy one myself?!?)
-
agreed i've had one for about 6 years now and its been a very solid, reliable workhorse of an amp. Pretty versatile and easy to get a lot of very usable sounds out of it... and for that kind of money it'd be rude not to buy it!

yeah yeah yeah, its beautiful, congratulations... so whats the catch? does it look like it was made by a blind guy with no hands when you inspect it closely? there's gotta be a catch. read on another thread someone saying it has that 'cheapo' feeling and the pickup sounds awful...
-
yep bought a pack of 3 a month or two ago... they're ok sounding but they're way rougher on the fingers than any other nickel set i've tried, feel more like steel ones, so its back to elites for me!
I'm trying to decide between getting a rackbag, or getting a hard case. I don't gig (yet...) so will just be for rehearsal. Obviously the hard case will look after the equipment a bit better - but its not like it will be thrown in the back of a van, so does it matter? FWIW I'm looking at an LD Systems bag or a Gator shallow case both in a 6u size.
rack bags are a lil easier to lug around and they do protect your stuff well, however be careful with the zips! i've just completely knackered mine so i either take the zip off and sew on a new one (yeah cuz i'm great at sewing...) or buy a new rack bag! then again i've seen enough hard rack cases that have the doors hanging off cuz the catches have broken...
