Bought a rack case from Aidan, good price, well packaged and a pleasure to deal with throughout, cheers!

I think of it like double bass drum drumming... it has a place in a certain style of music and fits that perfectly. However, the genre it's best known for is not one I'm massively in to. That said, if used tastefully for the odd song or section here and there it can be really effective - but just slapping all over every song for the sake of it doesn't do it for me, much like just running on double kick drums constantly through every song isn't for me either

Never seen one of these before! Yamaha bass

Well, Douglas is a bit of a star really! I contacted him out of the blue after seeing him discussing 3d printing, and asked if he'd mind printing some pickup surrounds I'd found the file for. He was more than happy to do so, (even though I took the mick and asked for spares as well!) and he refused payment of any kind, not even to cover postage/costs. An absolute gent throughout and he really helped me out. Thanks again!

It goes in and out with the fashion though, Ringo etc had one up one down so people follow that, then in the 70s/80s it all went a bit daft with as many toms as your roadies could carry... when I was learning to play the drums I was given a kit - with 2 rack toms and a floor, but I remember seeing people like Dave Grohl with one rack tom - so I started doing that and preferred it. Then came the trend for having 2 floor toms but it never appealed to me. It'll go back to more rack toms at some point i'm sure. I played bass in a band with a drummer who had 3 rack toms and 2 floor toms and during rehearsal I watched him through alot of songs, I noticed he never hit the smallest 10" tom - so I asked him about it. He said "no that's where I put the setlist" - he was not joking.

I have a flats lite kit which is great for home practice (I use some little thin pads and quiet cymbals) - however I wouldn't gig with it. The smaller 'normal' looking drum kits listed by others here all look like great options and although it definitely depends on style of music (and the drummer) I reckon any of those would be a good option - although even then I'd probably use my own snare, as although you can tweak the other drums to your taste or dampen them etc the snare is such an important sound and can be tricky to get a good sound, even with a good snare.

Just in case anyone wondered... I’ve just stumbled upon the answer! They’re from a Marlin Slammer bass

Awesome, well it looks great - I’ve owned 2 headless basses and never seem to get on with them for some reason, but that one was tempting for sure! Enjoy!

I just picked up one of these (2nd had and cheap) and it’s really good so far, I’m still happy with the powerplant jr I use, but this one has a couple of outputs that I can switch for 12v and 18v pedals I have if I make a second board... and it’s really low profile so would fit under any board easily

John K Vintage Guitars - serious bass pedal archive
kingforaday replied to orangepeelneil's topic in Effects
Yeah his stuff is crazy cool, I stumbled on the site looking up info on old peavey amps. People were talking about how they love the sound of certain amps, but not the weight - so someone pointed out John K had made the sound of said amps, in pedal form. -
EBS Octabass Blue Label vs previous Studio Edition?
kingforaday replied to kingforaday's topic in Effects
No that’s fine, I was only asking about that one in particular as it’s a personal fave... I have been looking at other ebs pedals recently (and owned a multicomp before, which I see has also been updated) ive not checked the ones you mentioned but would be interested to hear from anyone who has, to know what exactly has been updated. -
EBS Octabass Blue Label vs previous Studio Edition?
kingforaday replied to kingforaday's topic in Effects
Cheers, yeah I think you’re probably right - it’s just one of those things where there’s a new version of something I really like, so I feel like I should probably try it. I’ve seen a couple crop up for sale and it’s tempting - I excitedly went to watch a video of it and was left a bit underwhelmed, seeing as I already have the studio edition -
I love ebs stuff and have the ‘studio version’ of the octabass. I didn’t even realise there was a newer one (they look similar - aside from an extra knob/different colour knobs) anyone grabbed one of these and able to offer some input? The one I have is one of my favourite octave pedals for sure, so I’m intrigued by the new version. I also own 3 boss oc2’s, valeton oc-10, sub n up mini, joyo xvi and a bass synth wah that does a good octave - a real mixed bag but gives an idea of what I like (and the fact I’m a little octave obsessed!) The updates/changes are a little strange to me though. The tone knob seems fair enough, but from watching a video, it’s not doing much more than the switch on mine does? They’ve changed the function of the switch to make it more accurate tracking in either high or low registers... but I’ve never really had an issue with tracking... so that doesn’t sway me. anyone buy one after owning a previous version and been blown away? Or shall I just stick with what I have?

Peavey 215 refurb - grill cloth? Corners?
kingforaday replied to kingforaday's topic in Repairs and Technical
Thanks, yeah agreed, I always use a pair of 4x10 gk cabs with a gk head... but recently I’ve been wanting to try some more vintage sounds with old peavey amps and cabs. I love the look of a 2x15 as well, looks like it really means business! no I decided against lining it for now after reading so many conflicting opinions etc I probably need to research more before attempting it -
Peavey 215 refurb - grill cloth? Corners?
kingforaday replied to kingforaday's topic in Repairs and Technical
That’s better! I finally got around to finishing this off. I used Marshall grill cloth as it seems to be the closest thing here in the UK. Put a metal logo on (I already had a stash of these). Cleaned it thoroughly - turns out soap and water does a very good job (thanks guys!) providing you use a scrubbing brush and then rinse off the soapy water with clean water afterwards. Replaced the rickety castors for some smooth black ones. replaced the dodgy jack socket with a switchcraft one. Replaced corners with NOS peavey corners from eBay... I could only find the front type, so don’t look around the back yet, it ain’t so pretty. All in all I’m happy, it works well, it looks cool and still roadworn enough without being gross but best of all it no longer smells of a billion cigarettes!! -
I bought a pedal from Neil in what was probably my best experience using basschat! I posted a wanted ad, Neil responded, great price, sale agreed, shipped to me and I was playing it... all in 24hours! I do love this forum and Neil is a credit to it! I certainly hope to deal with you again at some point

Much like the last time I posted one of these “what’s this then?” posts, I’m pretty sure it’ll be obvious to the more trained eyes out there but... these bass tuners, there’s something about them that makes them stand out. They’re old, heavier than the usual/typical fender copy types I’ve seen and the keys have a weird shaping to the edges I’ve never seen!? anyone know who they’re made by or what they’re off?
-
I did consider this when I was learning many years ago... mainly because I saw a rubber thimble thing at my grans house and thought “I wonder how I could relate this odd object to music in some way” - I never actually tried it but maybe that kinda thing would help?!

Ibanez Blazer/Roadster as part of a job lot!
kingforaday replied to kingforaday's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Yeah, I guess that’s the hope it might encourage people to get sucked in and bid more than they normally would... I always set an amount in my head where I’m like “I’d be very happy to get that for this much” - anything beyond that and the regret would be too strong and whatever it was would be going straight back on eBay! -
Ibanez Blazer/Roadster as part of a job lot!
kingforaday replied to kingforaday's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Me neither... it’s always irritated me. I see why to some degree but it still ultimately seems unnecessary I also can’t decide if it’s worse that they expect you to guess what figure they’ve set as a reserve, or the listings that openly say “reserve is set at...” - both annoying in their own way! -
Vintage V96 (stingray copy) wiring issue
kingforaday replied to kingforaday's topic in Repairs and Technical
Hey all, no update really other than I think you've all helped me understand that it may not be a mod and that its supposed to be a tone pot... but in either case it doesn't work. I'm gonna strip it all apart and test everything to see if I can work out what is wrong. Man I wish I hadn't given away a box of spare pots and other parts last year ("I'll never need these" - I for some odd reason decided) -

If you don’t mind that would be really useful! I’m not getting much joy on a google search (just lots of threads on forums such as this, with people asking for wiring diagrams)
