1. Bought a Yamaha bass from LloydyG10, great price and communications beforehand and the bass was sent quickly and well packaged. Thanks!
  2. There's someone looking for one of these in the 'wanted' section
  3. I ended up going for the cable clips, they fit really well, tight enough that they wont fall off but still easy to clip on & off, if I do need to get to the switch during a gig.
  4. I wanted a one knob 'set & forget' compressor to subtly even out the signal... was gonna get a TC Spectracomp but didn't have the funds... I ended up going for a Mosky Dyna Compressor. Same tiny size as the TC but it only cost £18! Looks like it's more like £25 now... but still very cheap. So far I'm really impressed and I'm happy with what it's doing but I do intend to buy the TC when I can to A/B them
  5.
Toothpaste cap? Bottle cap? The one on a fruit shoot type drink should do it
That's interesting actually, I went straight to the thinking of "I need to stop this button as it presses down, so something around the shaft will disable it" but yeah covering it up would do the job too of course... I'll have a think on that front also, cheers
  6.
I use a zip tie round the shaft of the footswitch - as it's hard plastic rather than rubber (like the Grolsch grommet) it doesn't compress and helps with my clumsy tap-dancing no end. I had to try a few different sizes to get the right width but it's solved the problem for me. Not really re-usable (you have to cut it off to remove it) but they cost pennies so not really an issue. YMMV of course. Hope that helps.
Yeah, that's probably gonna be the one! I suppose the reusable angle isn't a massive issue and it's not so much the cost, it's more that I'm sure there's something obvious out there that'll clip on and off easily (like the clothes peg idea but smaller and more subtle) if I do need to quickly change something. In my head some kind of cable clip would do it but it's a case of finding the right size/design... I'll go with zip ties for Friday's gig and see how I get on, cheers guys
  7. Ok, bit of a weird one... maybe something obvious I'm not thinking of... I sometimes accidentally hit switches on some of my 'always on' pedals thus turning them off... Now, I could space my pedals out more (obviously) but I'm really happy with my board so I'd just rather temporarily disable the ones I don't need to turn on/off during the set. I've tried rubber grolsch seals (strap locks) which work ok but they're not perfect... I was wondering if anyone else had come up with a decent solution? Ideally I'm thinking something I can clip on and take off easily Any ideas?
  8.
Nice to see the new restored T40. Congratulations on a job well done. OK it cost you a fair bit but you spread the costs over time so would hardly feel it I've finished a couple of 40's myself these last few months, much to the horror of purists One had been waiting 3 years on getting wired up correctly. When I realised another 3 year was likely I spent 20mins cutting in a battery box then threw in a preamp Think that was in April. 2nd one was 2 weeks back. T40 with an extra hole in the headstock was bought before it got stripped for parts. Choice was fit a new neck or finish the original owner's 5 string idea Went down the 5 string route
Ha ha! Yes and you've just talked me through the process on Facebook for my next project!! Small world
  9.
IM just glad that eBay monstrosity got a good home. Looks great! T40 are great - loved playing mine when I had it
ha ha, yeah I hoped people would appreciate that, it seemed odd spending so much on something that looked like that but the value of the spare parts made it worthwhile I'm gonna sort through the spares I have and maybe Ebay them (or start looking for another busted T40 to restore?!?!) and I'm considering listing that 'modified' body. Mainly in the hope that if anyone else thinks about hacking up theirs to cut down on weight, they can buy that one instead and I'll have saved another T40
  10.
I've never played a T40 - they look an interesting instrument. its a nice collection you've got going there. I have to say your latest one is particularly nice. I'm a bit of a sucker for the natural body/rosewood fretboard combination!!
I've lent mine to a few bassists and they all tend to fall for them (aside from the weight), I'd definitely recommend giving one a play sometime. They're so well made/designed. The combination of neck and body was from the desire to reunite the white one with it's original maple neck (I've had the rosewood on it for years) and also I showed my 4 year old nephew and he chose that neck for the natural body I'd been sanding and finishing: "that one... because it's the same" - not quite but I could see what he meant!
  11.
Thats lovely. Well done. If it's any consolation I've recently spent a faintly mental amount of cash getting a Fenderbird built. Sometimes a mans got to do what a mans got to do....
Cheers, yeah and once started, it's getting finished whatever the cost just to get it off my mind!
Cor, I do miss my T40 occasionally... That white one is gorgeous!!!
Thanks! They're incredible, I keep trying to play other basses, have bought and sold tons in search of something better... but I always come back to these
  12. and then there were 3! Very short build diary just to show that I finally found the missing parts i needed to complete the natural T40 in the middle of the 3. I bought the body on Ebay years ago with the intention of doing something with it, then a rosewood neck caught my eye and I bought that to try on my white T40... Years passed and recently I started to look into putting one together with the body/neck I had... I bought various bits and pieces, all starting to come together but still missing some key components and then I spotted this on Ebay a couple of weeks ago: Which although severely messed up, had more than enough parts to fix mine up... So I spent way too much on a destroyed bass. Mad? Definitely. Add to that all the other parts I'd previously sourced from all over the globe (pickups, bridge, control knobs, etc etc) and this has been an expensive project. Fortunately dannybouy gave me the pickguard for free so that saved me from financial meltdown (thanks again!). Here it is: All in all, I'm really glad I finally did it, it's awesome!
  13.
Can I be the first to say "It's all gone pear-shaped"?
You can... and I was the one foolish enough to buy it! Don't worry I haven't finally lost my mind, I just need some parts to fix one up
  14. Tobias renegade, with TKL tobias gig bag; I bought it second hand about 6 years ago from America and although Its in overall ok condition - a couple of dings and marks (the worst of which I'll try to show in the photos) mostly nothing that'd upset you or ruin the look of the bass. However, here's the bad bit, at some point it looks like it was dropped as there are cracks around the jack socket and bottom edge of the bass which have been lacquered over (prior to me purchasing it) and cracks in the finish on the front and although its not going anywhere (I've had it years and nothings moved or flaked off) it doesn't look great as the cracks are still visible underneath the lacquer. I had the plan of stripping and refinishing but being realistic it's never gonna happen... I'm far too lazy. I reckon the original control plate was replaced or has been cut down or something as this one seems a little small for the cavity. soooo, factoring that into the price offers somewhere in the region of [s]£500[/s]. Now £400... there aren't too many around at the moment to gauge a price by. Comes with a really nice Tobias gig bag (made by TKL) happy to ship for £20 (mainland UK only) I'm sure I have a box/packaging suitable for it somewhere... Specifically interested in a trade for a Hofner Club Bass (or Epiphone Jack Cassady) cuz I've always wanted to try one but I guess I'm open to other offers... athough there's nothing else I really want right now... I like Peavey T40's and old Yamaha and Ibanez stuff Here's some info about it that I didn't write (so you know this bits accurate) The Renegade's beauty is in its simplicity. Featuring a solid alder body and maple bolt-on neck, it speaks with a powerful vintage voice. The sound is supplied by a humbucker and jazz bar pickup, both custom made by Bartolini. A toggle switch allows the humbucker to run in "series" or "parallel", offering a wide variety of tone. A pull on the tone control activates the contour circuit, which uses a trim pot to boost the Renegade's EQ curve. For a more "natural" sound, the tone contour circuit is by-passable. Features: Solid alder body Three-piece, bolt-on maple neck Heelless neck joint/dual truss rods One Bartolini humbucker, one Jazz Bar humbucker Active preamp with TC-7 pickup circuit, push-pull tone control Tobias bridge Black hardware Maple fingerboard 24-fret, Double Octave range Any questions, or requests for pics of anything specific, PM me and i'll get on it
  15. I replaced my pitch black with the mini version at rehearsal last week and got an odd 'ticking' noise when the pedal is off and a high pitch noise when the tuner is engaged. I figured it must have been something I'd hooked up wrong, in my hurry to get started but last night I arrived early and spent a bit of time dismantling my board, to try and make the issue go away. When I take the daisy chain 9v out of the pitch black the noise goes away. When I power it from it's own separate 9v supply the noise goes away. When I switch back to the standard pitch black and use the same 9v daisy chain the noise goes away, So.... Can these mini pitch black pedals just not run off a daisy chain or is there something else I'm missing here? My board consists of: Tuner - Compressor - VT Bass - effects loop/blend - [octave - fuzz]. (I'm not getting any issues with the rest of it but figured I'd mention it in case anyone spots a problem with the chain)
  16.
Nice work. Loads of attituuuude
Ha ha! Cheers!
  17. Check it out! Let me know what you think! Cheers Matt
  18.
Which of your bands is doing that? We did a mini-tour of Germany last year was great. We`re also supporting Booze & Glory for 3 nights of their tour in April, namely Bristol, London & Derby.
Nice, yeah hopefully it'll be cool, I've never played outside of the UK! Hard Wax is the band I'll be playing bass with. It's a very new thing, just being put together as we speak, for these gigs to promote the album (that's on it's way...). Arch Rivals is the main band the rest of them are in (not me) and then I'm drumming in a band called Hostile Minds (which again is most of Arch Rivals) who are only playing one date I think, at Tegelen. Gonna be a busy week!
  19.
My current fave bands are Booze & Glory, The Last Resort and The Old Firm Casuals but I`d be pretty sure not many know much about any of them.
Cool, I wasn't expecting to see those names pop up when I clicked on this! I'm playing with a band at the moment that are going over to Germany in April to do a little tour... and one of the dates is support to Booze & Glory... and the other guys in the band played with Old Firm Casuals, last year I think. That was the moment I started to take their Oi band seriously... "You're playing with Lars from Rancid?... Nice"
  20. Dan just posted me a free (yeah, as in FREE) scratch plate for the Peavey T40 I'm piecing together. Massively appreciated mate and hopefully next time we do business, you'll actually get some cash out of me!
  21.
Strikes me as being a bit of over engineering for the sake of it. For many years (until I got a Pedaltrain and stuck a Fuel Tank on it a year or so ago) I got on perfectly well using either a Boss TU or Polytune pedal and a daisy chain cable from the 9v out. Sure, won't easily power heavy draw and 18v pedals but if you have a few of those on the board then you probably want to be looking a a better power supply than those ones...
I'd never even considered that... no idea why... I think I just presumed the tuner would power one other pedal only
  22. Yeah, that's exactly what I was afraid of. Definitely a very cool idea but if it's too noisy it's not much use!
