Cash Mart, Basildon Town Square - Aria Pro II LEB Classic
Fionn replied to Paul S's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Whenever I go to Basildon I always pop into the Cash Mart there - the one opposite M&S. Today they had an Aria Pro II Classic Laser in translucent burgundy, not bad nick for an 85/6, for £120. Had I not just bought almost exactly the same bass a couple of days ago (mine is black) I would have got this as I think it is a bit of a bargain. I didn't try it, I hasten to add.
Eek! Bargainarama! Great bass for very little money! -
Without question, my 1981 Aria SB900 fretless. I foolishly sold this bass in 2002 and immediately regretted it. That just got worse as time rolled on as I never found a fretless which came close. Then last year, by some freakish and unlikely co-incidence, I found my bass again and managed to buy it back. I love this beauty, and I'll never part with it again ...
I was just lending a bit balanced opinion to the argument, the car thing might be a bit far fetched! Although if the comparison is apt then we should have seen a lot more race car drivers have historically significant success driving exclusively Ford Mondeos
That's very true my friend. The comparisons are interesting though
-
I was reading through another thread where somebody made a comparison between basses and cars. The comparison was "Fender = Modeo, Alembic = Ferrari", then someone else elaborated "Fender = Mustang, Alembic = dated sportscar". I thought that to be quite interesting and both cases hinted a certain truth. There's a tastily contentious thread in this. Here's a couple to get the ball rolling ... Warwick Streamer Stage 1 = Porsche 911 Hofner Violin Bass = Morris Minor Gibson Grabber = Austin Allegro
-
Fender = Could be a Mondeo, could be a Mustang. Alembic = Perhaps a dated supercar, but a supercar none-the-less.

Do they look like this? I'd really like to be able to identify this set. Nicest strings that I've ever played, but I don't know what they are. Red silk both ends, quite shiny. Hmmmm? ...

Great clips. The Aria was sounding pretty good too

Strap length: been able to play vs looking cool
Fionn replied to col.decker's topic in General Discussion
Aye, it's all about the playing position for me. Comfort first ... which is why I departed from the Thumb Bass. -
I've been a very naughty boy, so Santa is bringing me a lump of coal.

I was just wondering if anyone knows whether or not it's possible to replace the plastic outer casing on EMG pickups?
I use one for the exact same reason.
Have your axes seen battle yet this season?
I can't see the point of a powerball or anything similar. I'd say, the best thing to do to build strength in wrist, arms, or hands for playing bass is to play bass.
You'd understand if you used one, really. Sure, playing bass all the time will gradually make you stronger. However, using a training aid like a gyrpscope will make you much stronger, much faster, and in a way which meets the physical requirements of bass playing. This is not a replacement for bass playing. It's a means by which to gain some physical advantage. I've been using a gyroscope as a conditioning aid for rock climbing for the last 5 years or so, almost daily. A gyroscope will give you forearm, wrist, and grip strength that playing bass simply wont.
-
You've got the right idea. A gyroscope powerball is a great training aid for building wrist/ forearm/ grip strength. I'm not an upright bass player, but I use a gyroscope almost daily to maintain and develop forearm and grip strength for rock and ice climbing. I use mine when I'm sitting around watching tv, etc. Be persistant and you'll notice a huge difference, really.
I think this will go the same way as the other Streamer that was for sale and I will withdraw if it doesn't sell before Christmas. £1100 plus shipping, no offers. Trade value £1200, bass plus cash please. I will not be bumping this again
That's a very fair price for an instrument of this quality, particularly considering that classic Warwicks are on the ascendant, value-wise. She's a beauty of a Streamer, with a gorgeous and rare finish. It would be no shame if you had to hold on to such a lovely bass.
I was just thinking today how annoying the "club" thing on talkbass was lol. Each to their own though, just not my cup of tea...yes, it seems a bit twee. I can see your point though about a thread to glean useful information from other users with the same or similar gear. I have done this in the past with Wal bass forums when the company was in the wilderness. As someone else mentioned though, once you start going down that road, where does it end? Would you end up with the "Tortex 73mm plectrum club" - some of the TB ones aren't far off this imo.
Ok, forget the "club" moniker (aye, it gets twee). My point is about something more than that.
