1.
I get GAS for Ritters too
Now THAT is just deranged!
2. Warwick love from me. I've had a few. A Streamer Std, Dolphin Pro2, Thumb NT, and I'm currently settled on a Streamer Stage 1. They all have different merits, 'though The Thumb NT, Streamer Stages 1&2, and Dolphin NT appear to be the classics of the brand. They have been out of fashion, sure. Although there are signs that they are coming back. I'm seeing them played out and about more. Second-hand Warwicks are starting to fetch higher prices again too (there were some insane bargains for a time). The early (1980's) Warwicks have always been more sought after and seem to hold their value a bit better. Back then they were hand made, utilised EMG or Bartolini pickups, and (Warwick branded) Schaller hardware, the really early models had a different headstock shape, then the common head shape, but with non-inclined tuners. Some different wood selections back then too, amongst other distinctions. I've heard these basses refered to as the "transitional" Warwicks. Some collectors go daft for them. Love them or hate them, for whatever reason, there can be no denying that they are quality instruments. The rest is subjective.
3. Well, I listened to "In a silent way" today, for the first time (and the second time). Magical stuff! Aye, such economy and restraint, especially when compared to "Bitches Brew". What a beautiful moment, half an hour in, when the full drum-kit kicks in, and then retracts, back to the space. I love that. It's imposible to focus on anything else when listening to these albums. I've lost a few hours of work on Miles Davis this week, but it was very worth it. Och, in my current mood I'm prefering the edgy nature of BB though. Those buried grooves are dirtier ... Nasty, yeahhhhhh!!!!
4. Some of your replies have made me very interested in hearing "In a Silent Way". I just downloaded it. The afternoons listening at "work" is assured. Gracias
5. On second thoughts ... A friend of mine once owned a Burns Vista Sonic. THAT was the worst bass I've played, even worse than the Epiphone. A total pig of an instrument. I'm astonished that folk spend 4-figure sums of money on those. Not only do they feel, and sound bad ... they look terrible too. Right down there with Rickenbackers. Yuk!
6. The worst bass I've played was an Epiphone Thunderbird ... An absolute atrocity of an instrument.
7. Lovely Streamer! Anegre? I thought they were all made of cherry before it changed to maple. Apparently not then. Anyway, nice bass. Good luck with the sale.
8. Wow!!! I heard Bitches Brew for the first time ever today. Both records, loud, through nice speakers, whilst I should have been concentrating on work. I became lost in it really. What I found most absorbing were the prevailing hypnotic grooves which are interlaced throughout the radical and sometimes (borderline) chaotic course of the two records. They are most often very subtle, sometimes almost buried. This is superlative musicianship on every level. It totally blew my mind. Is it co-incidence that this record was concieved during the psychedelic revolution? It's been a while since I've heard anything which is at once so utterly engaging, challenging, and stimulating. That said, It's not shagging music, and your girlfriend will probably hate it It wont sound at best on youtube, but here's a link if you're interested ... 9. Thusfar, my album of the year is Random Access Memories by Daft Punk. I Love Love Love it!!!
10. My set-up is a Gallien Krueger MB500 head + Neo 210 cab. 350w @ 8ohms ... 500w if I add another cab. The MB500 definately posseses the GK "growl". The boost channel ( master b ) allows you to have control over exactly how much growl you want. It's also foot-switchable, so easy to switch between this and a cleaner setting ... and it sounds as clean as you like too! It's an excellent amp. I have no practical experience of the new MB series combos or cabs, but I was considering them and I researched my options well. I decided upon the Neo 210 cab (+MB500 head) primarily for the reason that there are too many negative comments out there regading the acoustics and build quality of the uber-light MB cabs for my comfort. Quotes like "boxy sounding" and "rattling". The Neo series cabs are only slightly heavier, but seem to be of a much higher standard of build. I had the benefit of having played through a GK Neo 210 in the past, so was entirely confident before taking the plunge. I would recommend that you consider trying out an MB head with a Neo series cab. Not much more cost involved.
11. The Ovnilabs dude rates this compressor in his "top teir" of "top picks, and gives it a great review ... http://www.ovnilab.com/reviews/pwnzor.shtml Nice bit of kit!
12. It's as sexy as Jennifer Aniston as a stripper? I love the Dolphin, but I'd rather have the stripper Aniston.
13. Stuart Zender, mostly. When I first heard Jamiroquai, way back in 1993, I couldn't believe my ears. It was the music that I'd waited my entire young (at the time) life for. I was really captivated by the bass particularly. There was/ is something about early jamiroquai and Zenders playing which simply locks into my soul. I wanted to express some of that groove that I was feeling ... So, I went out and bought a bass. More than any other player that I can think of, Zender has left the strongest stylistic influence on my playing.
14. Aaaaaargh! Dream bass, right there!
15. That said, it's an EHX octave pedal that I'll be having.
16.
Otherwise I may look at the mxr bass fuzz delux as it has separate clean and fuzz levels( I find the usual blend tricky to volume match) Are there any other pedals that have this?
You've hit the nail on the head. I use a Marshall Shredmaster for fuzz, but I'll be exchanging it with the MXR as I haven't found anything better, in functionality and sound (subjective, I know). That's not just because of the individual dry and effect signal controls, they are just superlativley thought out pedals. I never intended to have a clean-sweep of MXR pedals, but I haven't found a better compressor or envelope filter that theirs either.
17. I just bought a nice compressor from Paul. All good in the squishyhood! deal with confidence
18. I just bought a nice amp and cab from Alan. No problems at all. Communication was ace, so we managed a bit of juggling around with timing/ payment/ shipping, due to holidays, gigs, etc, without any hassle. Trustworthy dude ... deal with confidence
19. I'll be interested to check out all these suggestions. I need a gig bag with a BIG pocket(s). Enough storage to take a GK MB500 head, 3 pedals, and associated leads. McNach, did you have a Warwick Rockbag? If so, do you think that it would have the pocket space for this gear?

21.
It was full on the back pickup and the tone was around 30%. Front pickup at about 75%.
Cool. Considering that then, and purely in the interests of feedback, I would say a more fitting tone could be acheived by bringing the neck pickup back to about 25%. It would cut through the mix better, complimenting the bassline, and your fine playing ... that's only my opinion, and it's splitting hairs really.
22. Duthaich MhicAoidh, a charaid! Sutherland
23. Soooo funky. Such nice bass tone. Who is the bassist? Is it Bootsy? Anyway, Funk for your ass!!! Superlative funk ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUsn880UWPQ
24.
Between Banff and Buckie, not strictly the highlands but close enough
Och, a fine part of the Doric north
25. This is a live jam from the album "Original Flava", which is a collection of the bands early material, collected from, and recorded before the release of their first album. This is pure gold. Headhunters, Check it out ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgqnMjxgLbw
