The Rap Thread (new title for an old thread).
bassbora replied to Mykesbass's topic in General Discussion
I always really liked Public Enemy and in particular Fear of the Black Planet and It takes a nation of Millions to hold us back. I always thought Fight the Power was good and the obvious Bring the Noise and Dont believe the hype. NWA were always good and the first offerings from Ice Cube. I lost interest soon after that. -

Duff was my first proper bass hero if you like as I was starting playing bass just after Appetite came out. I used to play a bass with PJ config and I think the only Fender I would be interested in is the white Duff sig. I hear what someone saying it’s too 80s but I am a total sucker for that plus I don’t like pick guards so that bass ticks all the boxes. But I only play 5 string so I would not buy it.

Duff’s signature bass is a P with a J neck. That’s based on MIJ bass he had originally so I am sure you can find something like that.

I used to own a FNA Jazzman (2004). I thought it was great. It was a 5 string and I thought it was a decent B string. I had (still have) a Thumb NT 5 at the same time and I much preferred the old/flat neck profile the Thumb has than the baseball bat profile of the FNA. It was a great gigging bass but I fancied a Stage 2 and traded it for that. Its a totally different bass so no point comparing them. But lets just say it was like jumping from a good Japanese car to a high performing German beast. But I have no experience with the Streamer Jazzman. I would think there are different body woods but other things should be similar (neck profile?). So it comes down to what body shape do you prefer and I guess price/availability. I like anything Warwick so I would have to toss a coin between these two but I liked my FNA and would not hesitate to get another one but then again I have not tried the Streamer Jazzman so might prefer to try that. Too many basses to try, these 1st world problems are so bad.

Is that in a shop or private sale? I find it on the higher side but I am not an expert on prices

Thanks guys for all your replies. Just clear one thing up, I was never going to buy one of these gig bags just wanted to know how much they would cost and I thought I would share the craziness with you all. I do have couple of flight cases and a hard case for my basses but for quick in and out gigs I prefer to have gig bags. Because the basses do not have interchangeable strap locks I prefer to have a dedicated gig bag for each bass (some of them share a bag) and in each bag is everything I would need for a gig. Extra strings, extra lead, tuner etc. For my newest bass I will be looking at a new gig bag and will defo go through all the suggestions here to find this new bag. I do have one of the old Warwick bags and I think I have had it for 20 years or so. It is awkward and the straps cut into your shoulder but its done me a great job and is still holding up perfectly all these years later.

I had seen those Maruszczyk and I was just interested what Warwick would cost. I knew from experience that anything Warwick would be over priced but 400 euros. I thought it looked good and perfect but for that price. No way. It would be interesting to know how many they actually sell.

So I am a big Warwick fan and saw in the classified section a custom something and all the rest of it but it comes with a leather gig bag. So as a man in the market for a nice gig bag for my latest Warwick I was curious how much one would be if you could buy one. I expected it to be pricey but I am not sure what to think when I saw it. Price of a decent bass. I know if you have a nice instrument and if you do take it out you want it protected and you spend on a good protection for said instrument but for a gig bag I thought it was a bit steep. What do you guys think?
Thanks mate but which Streamer? There are three in the photo, there is the Stage 1 5 string broadneck, the white 4 string Stage 1 and Jazzman 5 string. The bass 2nd from the right is an Ifinity Set Neck TCS. She is an absolute stunner with time and playability to die for! Unfortunately I am a 5 string player these days so it and the white Streamer will be up for sale shortly.
Sorry I meant the broadneck on its own. And the one I was asking about is the Infinity. All look great

I loved the gig and I have been a big fan since 90 and hear one of my favourite songs Harvester of sorrow was a high light. Justice is my favourite album by a mile and dyers eve is one of the best songs I know and the fact that one user has that user name is just beyond cool. I salute you mr

I saw them at Glasgow but was sitting up high and sound was awful. I have seen few bands there and usually sound sh*t. I have been a fan of Metallica since before 90 and really liked RT since ST and IG. Not sure if it works but I think it’s a match that should work. RT was on fire though and nice to see another Warwick player but I remember his days with Tobias. I never noticed Spector or Zon but what a good taste, the man is brilliant
I recently finished restoring this beauty, a 90s Warwick Streamer with a broadneck, Barts and the sold brass hardware. I really need to take some better photos that better show the flaming in the maple, but for now these will have to suffice: Mine has a 2 band EQ and is active/passive. Because I want it to be as versatlie as possible I have installed 2 x 3-way switches to select between coils on each of the barts(switches arent shown in the above photos obviously). It is the best bass I have ever owned or played in terms of versatility, tone and playability. It snarls like a rabid dog if needed but can also be tamed and shaped to whatever else you need it to be. I also have an 08 Thumb 5 string NT which is fab and sounds like nothing else but the neck dive and weight is a bit of an issue for me and I find myself picking up the Streamer more often than not. Will have to post some photos of the Warwick family as I seem to have collected a few more recently Not the best photo but here is a quick family snap:
I totally love that streamer. What is that bass second from left n group photo?

I have been playing Warwicks since '97. Its just a personal preference. I got the '89 Thumb first and fell in love. I wanted to have the same fretless and was lucky enough to find '89 6 string. I played '04 FNA Jazzman for few years which was fine but had that thicker neck. I prefer it slim. I managed to trade it for the Stage 2 which is '91. All sound great to my ears and since I am a tall guy reaching the 1st fret has never been a problem and with a good strap I have never had a problem with neck dive. But they are heavy when playing at a gig for 3 hours.

Mesa D800+ vs D800 - adjustable HPF rawks. (NAD)
bassbora replied to mcnach's topic in Amps and Cabs
I use the D800 and last weekend the sound guy made a special effort coming over and telling me my sound was superb. That amp into Berg. It's perfect. Forgot fingers and Warwick stage 2. That sounds slams you in the gut like there's no tomorrow. Such a simple amp with great sound -
I you like the SS2 but not the tone why not look into changing pickups and preamp?
-
I think you have answered the question yourself what you would get from it. You tried a German made one the other day and you seem smitten. I personally love my Warwicks and have done for over 20 years. Warwicks seem to get so many different responses from people and many seem to really dislike them. I also saw you were asking about Spector vs Warwick. It is the same you seem to have made up your mind. I have not looked at any new models for years. My neck profile preference is the thin one from the late '80s and early '90s. You might have a different view on that. I dont know what the model is you are talking about but the price was £900 (is that correct?). You are thinking about upgrading for £250. For that kind of money you could be looking for a second hand SS1 I think. They might go for a little bit more £1200 - £1500). So why not save/stretch to that since you say this will be your gigging bass and a keeper. Resale value of used Warwicks is really low so that is no different to this new one. You wont make any money on them (at least not at the moment). Why dont you try the Warwick forum or facebook groups and see what you can find. Often people are not thinking about selling until someone is looking for a specific bass/guitar and the one lurking in the background comes forward with the magic from the wardrobe.

I have to say for that kind of money I would be looking for a German made one. I gig a Streamer Stage 2 (91) and its brilliant. I use an old Thumb as well. But to answer your question, yes I love the neck through basses but I used to gig FNA Jazzman and that was a great bass but I replaced it with the SS2. I would advise buy used and you will get so much more for your money than new.
This is back at Bassdirect, I was quite interested last time before it went. Do you reckon its still the slim neck era? Id beinterested to see if the LEDs could be added back in, as my onstage eyesight is getting a little dodgy under stage lights.
I have a '89 one of these. It looks similar apart from the older ones had carved back of the head stock. I have a '91 stage 2 and that is similar neck like on my Thumb. It is interesting how big the battery compartment is. Looks double to my two '89 Thumbs so I would be interested to know if this is 18v.

NT is short for neck through.

I have also noticed that you can really see how your playing and technique has changed when you go back to the 'old friend'. Sometimes for better and sometimes for worse if you have picked up bad habits.
