1. ive got 6 Fender Aerodyne Jazz, Fender Sandblast Jazz, Fender MIM Precision, Warwick thumb 5, Squier VI and Squier Precision the Fenders are my main gigging basses which i use for different projects so can be in different tunings, but usually i run with 1 stage and one back up. the other 3 are for studio use, and in the squier p's case purely kept as it was the first bass i owned
2. in my last band we set our volume according to the location, and then regardless of whether we were playing loud or a more chilled out session we all still wore ear protection.
3. i may have leaked all my creative juices on last months, but ill try something
4. a bumper crop this, is 15 the most we have had in one month?
5. i used to have an issue where by my recordings would song boomy on my hifi and in the car, but over time i got used to which frequencies were causing the issue and i now know where to compensate to make the mix sound balanced on external sources. unless you have a perfectly balanced set of monitors and perfectly treated room you will never get perfection straight off the bat. you need to get used to your room and set up and compensate in the areas that are lacking. also, if you mix for long periods your ears will get fatigued, so what sounds ok to you may sound like arse just beacause you have got used to it. stepping away from time to time for a cup of tea in another room of the house can make a massive difference.
6.
'ang on. How do we know that those seven seconds are not Tacet bars?
i'm not that imaginitive. in truth its only that long because for some reason one particular midi item can't start properly unless it has a few seconds lead in and the upload to sound cloud seems to have added a couple of seconds. maybe i'll cut it down later if i can, but i don't think i'll have 7 or 8 seconds to do so im afraid
7. well we can go that route, but i'm only paying for a 5 minute argument
8.
Oh, what a shame..! Too long by one second, and so disqualified..! So close..! Never mind; next month, perhaps..? ... ... ... OK, it's Christmas; we'll be indulgent this time.
it doesnt start until 8 seconds so technically its 7 seconds short
9. 80's thrash i like, not it all seems samey. never really got glam
10. genius, i had to buy my wife a house with a dressing room.....
11. ok so i got mine done. to be honest im not happy with my mix, out of practice and rushed so hope you like it anyway. the song is more of a demo to something else i may end up doing now so i have not included vocals on this one. but it's done so maybe i'll do one next month too. 12. well ive got something, its not up to my normal standard but it sounds ok, hopefuly will get it uploaded after i go to the cinema, if not tomorrow. will be my first entry for probably over a year
13. im all original so i would go with do you have any songs written and recorded do you have any gigs booked do you practice regularly at home and as a band am i going to be wasting my time dealing with your issues, girlfriends, personal life or your self motivation
14.
This is the day I always feared. The day when somebody would come along and take this challenge seriously and shame us all into doing things right, you sir, could very well be the pioneering force that changed the course of this competition forever.
you wont be thinking that when you hear it
15.
You've obviously not been listening to my efforts, then..! Bass..? If it's fundamentally required, why not, but 'minimalist' can work, too..!
because i composed it with the idea of adding guitar and bass to it it has spaces that i need to fill with bass or guitar unless i totally rethink the keyboard parts which i don't have time to do... maybe ill just rumble some root notes on a bass underneath... i mean thats all bass is right?
16.
repeat some bit and fade............... always an easy option.
if only it was that easy, the song has a full structure, just at current i don't have an idea about what the bass can do yet, and given we are a bass forum i should put some in
17. gonna have a crack at completing mine later other wise it won't get done. totally drawn a blank with how to finish it off so may have to just submit it how it is at currnet
18.
Easy solution: don't google it. Also, there's no copyright in titles.
this, most of my songs titles just come from a line in the song, or a random line from a film i may have watched recently. I don't google band names or song names as it will drive you nuts
19. i started off as a vocalist doing rock covers in a band but then wanted to make music and write songs, and being a bass player was my easiest route into a band at the time (everyone i knew was a guitarist or drummer) so i took it up. it was only after i started playing that i developed a passion for it.
20.
Hmm, slap bass. If I wanted to slap things about, I'd have learned to drum. I just can't listen to slap. Mr King has a phenominal reputation, but from his early days, simply not for me. I'm that bad, whenever I watch any kind of video, as soon as the slap starts, it gets closed.
this is pretty much the same for me, i fully appreciate the skill that is required to be able to pull it off well, which the likes of mark king definatly have, but it certainly isn't a style of play that is overly pleasing to my ears
21.
Tell us about it. That's the point at which we all post our 'finished product'.
its got structure, tonnes of element, tones of drums and keys and stuff, but i havent filled it out with bass and guitar yet cos i just can't feel what i want. may leave it for the weekend
22. if you have no say and the others seem intent on keeping him around and are happy with his tone then you are in a no win situation. i may be more cynical and less patient, but i couldn't be in a band where a member his learning his way, especially if he has no apparent grasp of having to adjust his tone to fit with a band. the choice is yours of course, but if it annoys you already then i think you are going to be driven mad by it in the long term.
23. im starting to struggle with it now. ive reached a point and got stuck... and it was all going so well
24. i get what mark king does, but it just isn't for me
25.

it's pretty much the only "is he all that" post we haven't had yet this week so someone had to
