1. mark king..... is he all that?
 2.
Just so I'm clear, this is a Basschat thread in which folks are discussing All Our Basschat Yesterdays (but only the humorous bits)... is that right?
Basschat threads....... Are they all that?
 3.
Wow, lots of entries already this month! Well done all Keep 'em coming.
mine is getting there, what is the final date this month?
 4. i can't stand any of them any more the old ones are overplayed and new ones are hidden amongst the dirge of xfactor releases and special edition tracks from artists re-releasing albums. i did quite like the one the darkness did a few years ago, it was camp, cheesy, had christmas themed lyrics and a daft video.... which is what one expects from a christmas song. i am partial to "Fairytale of new york" because that appeals to my miserable personality.
 5.
I read that as "I'd have shot him by now".... harsh but fair
out where i live in the fens that's not an unreasonable action haha
 6.
I think this is perhaps at th base of the issue. The fellow is a terrible guitar player (I mean aweful, knows no theory and cannot string a melody to save his life) and he uses scooped and over-saturated sounds to mask his bad playing. I guess its driving me crazy since how terrible he sounds is going somewhat un-noticed at practice because his tone is so aweful that it cannot be heard properly. I have a video of him doing a 'solo' toward the end of our last set and I just want to die of embaressment to be honest. He even tries to do some speed tapping...out of key and time...oh help me. I guess I need to get him to get a tone that everyone can hear so we can be more honest about how terrible he sounds. And either work with him to get better (happy to do that provided he puts in the time and effort on his part) or...
if he is that bad as a player and doesn't know how to use his gear properly.... why is he even in the band i'd have been shot of him by now personally. harsh but it's ruining your enjoyment of the band.
 7. or you just upload them to drop box and send the download link out via facebook?
 8. if you wanna get them out there free i would use bandcamp, sound cloud will wreck the quality where as band camp wont
 9.
What age do we have to be to appreciate the music of a bassist who did his finest work in his mid-20s?
i think you just had to be there
 10.
No, I'm convinced the JP haters are confusing "don't like" with "don't understand" Blue
see now you are trolling and just being argumentative for the sake of it. no one here has come across as a Jaco hater, quite the contrary, pretty much everyone has said they respect what he has done, they have just said they don't like his music. everyone understands his influence, and contrary to your belief, it is ok to "not get jazz" and not like Jaco without being hard of understanding. and age and generation has f*** all to do with it, i wasn't born when the beatles were around, but i get what they created and still like their music, i wasn't around when elvis was alive, but i appreciate what his influence was... please don't make this into an "i was there so i know more than you about it" attitude. the fact is simple, some people don't like and don't get jazz, i don't. some people just don't like jaco, i don't..... the world would be f***ing boring if we all liked the same things.
 11. i love my mexican precision with maple neck, plays nice and smooth, built like a tank and just as aggresive, really pleasing sound. its hard to quantify a "BEST" precision as they will all feel different to a different person.
 12. Greg Kriesel from The Offspring inspired me, and im sure many others. he has never been an in your face kinda player, has some nice lines within a punk setting (why don't you get a job for example) and holds down the rhythm and drives the band. Always quite liked Hugh McDonald, as well as being a long serving uncredited member of bon jovi, his session work is extensive.
 13.
What if I was there in a former life? You know, man, like reincarnated, man?
if you were, could you confirm whether or not he wore a headband.... that could certainly sway some opinions. i'll be honest i had not heard of him before, but i like his groove, he holds they rhythm but has his own groove without "aimlessly noodling", compliments the music right nice.
 14. i think to be honest before this gets to far, you had to be there or you don't understand
 15.
Just paste the youtube link and drop the s off the https.
that was the only thing i didn't try haha, well he's here now , but to complete the set
 16.
Conversely... the drummer at the wrong gig vid is long past it's expiry date!
i was actually going to post it, but don't know how to embed video haha
 17. any thread with a HJFreaks video cheers me up no end
 18. i like the threads where you can state an opinion about a certain bassist and then have an calm and reasoned discussion about them without being accused of being ignorant and uninformed..... not a lot of those around recently
 19.
I like some of Jaco's stuff, but find quite a lot of it to be pretty much unlistenable. Does this mean I should sell half my gear? Fretless, surely?
no you are safe because you didn't say "aimless noodling".....
 20. a think torpedo is a tad dramatic...
 21. i'm actually working on something for a change
 22.
I did just post another comment, but have deleted it -- the reason being that IMO this thread is going round in pointless circles. Very, very boring.
quite, it feels like we are all "aimlessly noodling"
 23.
Will you please give it up with the "if you don't like Jaco you should give up" stuff? It's demeaning and more than a little insulting. Added to which we've heard it (more than) once and it's getting tedious. Yes I'm tetchy this morning.
i think if everyone applied the "if you don't like Jaco you should give up" stuff, this forum would become pretty quiet.
 24.
Could be an age thing, I'm 42 but I don't know at what age I'm supposed to like him. I'd agree it's more a genre thing. Jazz fusion, or whatever you want to call that style of music, repels me. I have no interest in listening to it or researching it so why should I know somebody who plays it? I've tried to like Stanley Clarke a couple of times in the past because I foolishly bought into this idea that I should listen to these 'gods' but it just makes me not want to play bass or ensure that I never play anything that sounds similar, so it's better for me to not listen to a genre that repels me. Most of the hereos lauded on here are similar in that I have heard of them and encountered their music at points in my life but have absolutely no desire to give them any more of my listening time. If I don't like their music then why would I? I'll rock the boat by saying these people include Stanley Clarke, Jaco, Geddy, Billy Sheehan, the Dream Theatre bloke, Les Claypool, Victor Wooten, Chris Squire, Mark King, there are others but you get the idea. If this makes me ignorant, stupid, uninformed or whatever insult makes folks feel better then that's fine. I'll just keep listening to music that I love and inspires me and keep playing what's in my heart and soul. If that's OK with everyone
very much this ^^ I've been playing bass for the best part of 15 years, and whilst i'd heard of Jaco, i hadn't listened to him until this thread appeared. I gave him a go and I simply don't like Jazz, or him, and on that basis i have little or no intention of listening to him again. Talented he may be, but i just don't like it. If it makes me ignorant, then fine, my path is different to Jaco's and i'm happy with that. music is a subjective thing. The OP in my view, was trying to understand and learn what is appealing about him. He didn't come across as a troll to 99% of the people on this thread, and the reaction by some has probably made it less likely that he will give Jaco a try.
 25. i swapped from cubase to reaper. i like the fact it is so simple, makes you listen to a sound rather than relying on a knob graphic
