In terms of promotion and getting new people on board with your music? Sure, fans do that. But fans also like to interact with the band, that's why bands and artists do things like Reddit "Ask Me Anything", they're an open opportunity for fans to ask a question, and potentially have them answered, and they're very popular. Bands should probably work out a way to bring a small slice of that into every social media post, shouldn't they?
do they interact with bands tho? we rarely used to get asked questions and those we did get were often irrelevant. even in my more popular bands... all i see on twitter and instagram for popular bands is "oh please follow me" or "i love you" etc, not really interacting. i think promoting to get a new fan base comes from local press and playing shows, keeping them up to date from there is as easy as a facebook post saying "we are playing this gig at this time etc".. there is no need to include the fan in your life... if you get what i mean? -
Is it possible to forget how to play the bass?
RockfordStone replied to bobpalt's topic in General Discussion
i forget on a weekly basis and often wonder how i have managed thus far its like riding a bike -
Simply that really expensive and boutique instruments simply aren't required in that setting.
well if this is the opinion you hold, thats the crux of this argument... thread done put simply, some of us use expensive gear in sh*t venues for a number of reasons, the main one being because we can... you feel that it doesn't matter cos no one cares anyway... 2 opposing opinions that will go on and on and on in this thread until you either accept that we are right or stand by view valuing our opinions on the matter and move on
Yup, then you can direct them from your Facebook to your other social media.
we tried twitter and instagram, but it just didnt carry any weight, so we just used facebook until we imploded -

i only bother with facebook these days. its just easier to tell people "we are on facebook" without having to give out instagram and twitter handles -
Hi guys i own one of these and have done for a year, but im really starting to find that at times it's unplayable. no matter how many times i spend setting it up i end up with fret buzz and bad intonation on the low E (6th string). having researched more im hearing that this is a common issue related to the bridge and there has been some suggestion that shimming and flipping the bridge solves the issue. Has anyone else encountered any problems with their bass VI and it's intonation? if so how did you fix it.
Thats me. I don't need the gear I have. I could get the sound from much less expensive equipment I'm sure. I am an unashamed brand-snob. Absolutely no doubt. Not that I look down on people who don't have the most expensive kit - I don't - , I just choose to set my budget a little higher and I'm lucky enough to be able to do that and still pay the bills. Can I justify what I have spent on equipment? In a business sense? No. Not even slightly! But I don't have to...which is quite nice.
this is me too. i can and have used cheap gear in the past and its worked just as well. but i simply like to spend the money i earn on my gear. i work hard during the week so as long as my bills are paid im happy to throw money at my enjoyment activities such as music and photography. i would never criticise people for using cheap gear, im just fortunate enough to be able to afford good stuff so i do it while i can.
-
if you are going to be paid for it i'd do it, but if you are not being paid i would avoid playing so soon
You'd probably be surprised about how many issue I had getting it all to run on Win8... I still have to boot up my computer then restart it to get the soundcard to work
thats because you are using windows 8

nah we use proper DAW's i'm sure it's fine, protools should have been on the ball given how "industry standard" it is
-
i built my pc with a quad core i5 processor, I only have 16gb ram and that covers all my gaming and recording needs. ram is cheap as chips these days
-
i've heard it from several practicioners of the art. its basically seperating the processes. so in effect the computer is not reading the system and the recording from the same drive and trying to make sense of it. almost like dipping bread in soup. if you throw the bread in the soup you have a soupy bread mess, take the bread from a plate and dip it in the soup and you have a much neater easier food for your taste buds to process... but if you like soupy bread. for what we do its probably not noticeable. i run 3 internall HDD's so i don't record to the same one that is running my system. doesnt have to be external, but he is searching laptops not desktops

reaper is the least system hungry DAW, wonderfully simple. would echo what skol says, get as much ram and processor speed as is possible, and to ease pressure on the system record to an external harddive. i have an old laptop which has about 3 gig of ram in it which runs reaper, but i can't live monitor without high latency so memory and processor speed
-
i was surprised about how stable windows 10 actually was. i have noticed no loss in performance since upgrading, if anything it seems to be better. reaper is totally fine, i am running version 5 pre release and it seems stable as anything
I've heard that there's also reduced latency with W10 but haven't tried it yet...
i've heard this, but not run the system hard enough to check it yet
Go for it Rob! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
i will if i can find some free samples and loops somewhere
-
im going to try and do something outside my comfort zone for this..... see if i can pull it off
-
you can roll back from windows 10. ive installed it and so far everything is working perfectly
-
ive submitted stuff through it, we have been played on the radio locally. its free so its worth it
-
i've had so much spooky stuff happened to me that i could make a thread all on my own. non of it bass releated tho.
-
i'm going to install it tonight. no doubt the software, will be fine, i know reaper works with windows 10. drivers for interfaces may be more of an issue. if you do it and it doesn't work you can roll it back.
-
i believe the windows install binds itself to the motherboard and not the hard drive, also, wouldn't removing the hard drive void the warranty anyway on the basis that it has been tampered with?
If you're interested in whether a Bass VI can do normal bass duties ... http://basschat.co.u...-a-regular-bass ... but it's just another instrument in its own right too. Good for melodic soloing, surf type sounds, tictac bass, etc etc; works well with tremolo, reverb, chorus, and other similar effects.
i use mine more to add some depth to guitar parts in my recordings, rather than using it as a bass.

its amazing what you can actually do these days without the man in the suit

i've got one of these, i wouldn't use it for a standard band situation, but its fun to record with. that said, im not in love with it, and would trade it in if something else came up
