Good afternoon, Rocky... If that's to establish vocal confidence, then I'll assume you're now fully boosted. There's nothing wrong with your performance there; the playing, singing, mixing and production are of a level right up there with the best of genre. No false modesty to be had, no 'shrinking violet' apparent. Excellent job, lad. I'd love to know how to get that fat, thick, guitar disto sound. Criticism..? No, you didn't ask for any, and there's nothing worthy of mention to criticise, anyway. Well done, and thanks for sharing.
the fat guitar came from having 2 guitars panned each side with some odd tuning on them, meaning that the power chord covered all 6 strings. Mark tremonti uses the same tuning for his songs. it sounds epic

wow guys, just wow.... kinda glad I didn't finish mine, woulda looked stupid against some of these haha. really strong this month
Surely it has to be 'Franglais'
beat me too it!
Found the problem. My computer needs an upgrade. sh*te processor, so have to bounce down every 3-4 tracks to one. There has been a stereo enhancer switched on on the output which i didn't realise. Fresh mix time!
if you get latency issues and the sound jumping during the mix phase put the buffers to highest and it helps. it will mean monitoring during recording is undoable. also lock tracks once recorded that helps too

ive snapped one string in my playing career, and that was the first time I ever tuned a bass some 12 years ago. that said, I always take a spare bass since a gig where my guitar broke pre show, I limped it through but now I carry a second bass just in case.
-
I thought microphones could easily have parts changed out if you are electronically minded. for them to say that it is scrap once it breaks doesn't fill me with confidence about their products.
Your monitors seem to be positioned a little low, but if it works, it works.
I was going to say the same, if you lift them so they are around ear level when you sit you might get a better mix

may i refer you to the recording section on here, lots of info on there that will help

this may sound a daft question, but is there anywhere where one can easily find a list of venues and promoters around the country? my band are looking to get out on the road a bit more and looking for venues and promoters, as I haven't been gigging in a while, all my usual contacts have moved on or given up.
-
I do plan to get involved, but not had any spare time yet so it may be a last minute mad dash with loops etc haha

following on from one i did the other week, i have reworked on of my other songs to release to the general public this one took shape as originally being an entry into the composition competition for late 2012 early 2013? not sure have a listen to it here and let me know what you reckon

anybody else find jam sessions boring?
RockfordStone replied to PaulWarning's topic in General Discussion
depends on the jam and who is in it, I go out of my way to change lines and solo as much as a guitarist, there is no need at all to repeat a bass line. I am lucky that I play with a good guitarist and good drummer, so we allow each other space to do things in a jam -
Well done Doug! I haven't listened to it yet but top marks for speed. Coming back to Lurks comment on a daily challenge.... Actually a 'Weekend Challenge', maybe with a prize of some sort if we can arrange one, might be a nice idea sometime, assuming we give ourselves enough notice of when it would happen. I've also been thinking about running a charity challenge one month. We could package the entries up as an 'album' on Bandcamp (say for £3) and give the proceeds to a good cause. In fact, there's no reason why we couldn't do that every month. Something to consider
if you were releasing the songs, would there not need to be some sort of copyright in place for the ownership of the songs?

I played a gig once in Leicester, we were last on, the promoter hadn't done any promotion and didn't even come to the gig, the only people there to watch us were our drummers parents and the guy behind the bar.... took my bass out of the bag and the nut had snapped straight through one of the grooves. without any glue or my back up bass I had to wing it, but the guitar didn't play that well... glad there was no one there to see it. we all have bad gigs, but it just makes the good ones even better

not sure about the motu 8, but i have a tascam us1800 which i use pretty much daily. found it to be very useable and does exactly what it is supposed to, ive used it for home use, drum tracking and tracked a full band through it and it works great. would highly recommend it

Thanks for the kind words dudes

Some of you may know that i write record and mix music etc as part of a bands and as alone, for the first time ever, i am actually releasing a track which i class as a single which is written, performed and mixed by me. This is a big step for me as i have severe hang ups and confidence issues about my musical ability and singing. so i'm hoping by doing this and other songs i will be able to overcome them and be a better musician overall. I wrote the song a number of years ago, and was in a darker place than i am now, but i have spent the last few weeks reworking it, recording parts to make something that for once i am happy with. Hope you like it, check it out here

can work with this one i think, lets do it

congrats again paul, you must have an albums worth of "winners songs" by now?

I have a touch of reverb, I find my vocals dry sound very harsh, a touch of verb smoothes it off right nice

Mixing Advice Required - help desperately needed, more like!
RockfordStone replied to Sean's topic in Recording
wouldn't mind having a go mixing myself if the option is still there. often times you find how good people are when you record them. we replaced our drummer after a recording session, recorded 4 songs with him and got them back to mix them and it was woeful -
When your band mates wont be depped!
RockfordStone replied to rodacademy's topic in General Discussion
we had an issue with our drummer once, he double booked so we got a dep in, he wasn't happy about it, but understood it was for the band and it was his fault he had double booked........ he is now the ex drummer... and the dep is our full time drummer.... funny ol' world. sounds insecure to me, but if he is the right man for the job you won't feel the need to replace him, he just needs reassuring -
I've got it pinned down to 2 that do it for me, tough choice as they are all good

57's you can pick up for dirt cheap 2nd hand. they are sturdy too, never used one on a bass amp mind
