1. if you like how it plays and sounds... why replace it.. who gives a sh*t about street cred if the gear works? i used to play live with a behringer amp and thomann home brand cab and a 200 quid ibanez... didnt look magic but sounded good and played nicely... i still use the head from time to time. don't replace it unless you have a real reason for, the fretboard isnt always greener on another bass
2. its doable, but as said above, sound quality probably won't be all that and watch your volumes
3. i create several folders within my pc so that my DAW is reading from one drive. All my VST's and effects are saved to one folder, so that they only have to be read from one place, similar to samples and loops etc. all my current working projects are saved on my main hard drives with all archived projects on backup drives try and keep it as streamlined as possible, the less the computer has to think the better it will run... at least thats my logic and im rolling with it
4. if memory serves, the toneports are direct input devices, so you have to plug the guitar/mic in directly if you have line out outputs on the mixer try sending them through there, but i don't think these are designed for that
5. ive got various amp simulators, but since i got the amp they sound like arse and are totally uninspiring haha
6. i'm afraid im out again this month... my guitar amp is broken. and is off being mended.. boooo maybe i'll have some good luck sometime
7. these 2 are difficult, certainly not giving me any immediate ideas.. will be intersting to see what people produce
8. i have a tascam dr-2d which is good, our drummer has one of the zoom ones with a camera which is also good... apart from it only ever looks at him so the visual is boring they are handy, if you get the placement right you can get some pretty good recordings from them
9. if you have the option, do both. that way you can chose what sits better, and blend etc... its worth doing both if you can
10.
That must be it then. Will have to try my Mackie spike then. Hey ho. Two steps forward one step back.
sometimes it can be like that, but once you crack it, you are sorted
11. if its the 122, it wont be compatible with windows 8, i used to have one and they didnt produce drivers past windows vista im afraid you will need an interface compatible with windows 8
12. as ive got a relatively free weekend this weekend.... im going to throw something together... it will be sh*t no doubt, but i need to get back in the game... may do an instrumental
13. if you are connecting to the laptop via 3.5mm rather than usb, it will be the native sound driver of the input you are going into, if you can work out what that is, you should be away.
14. this is the reason i no longer lend gear to anyone but people i know. i had a couple of speakers blown once, they werent expensive replacements so i just sucked it up. i did have one guy just show up and actually set my whole rig up and use it without my consent and then went on to rag the sh*t out of it... lets just say it took people to hold me back from walking onto the stage to turn him off. people are so f***ing inconsiderate when it comes to lending gear, if im ever in the position where i have to borrow gear, out of respect i always turn the volume down for starters.
15. ive got a line 6 gx, cost me about 70 quid with a version of pod farm which was useable. now i mainly use it as an unlock for the software, but i used it for the same thing you are looking to do. worth looking at
16. ive got superior drummer which is the bigger version of this, its a really great bit of kit, really easy to use
17. if you are looking for cheap cheap, some of the line 6 interfaces are good, and are usually bundled with pod farm
18. sorry i've missed out on this again, my computer is being a complete twat at the moment
19. we set our amps up next to the drums as if it were a live setting, but we face the drummer and play facing our amps at the other end of the room
20.
Hi Rob. Deadline for entries is Saturday 23rd.
ok, im recording all tomorrow, but my home machine is screwed so i have to wipe it. i may yet squeeze something in
21. whats the closing date? im recording my band this weekend, but should have some time next week to do something
22. ive got ideas for this... but my recording computer is out of commission
23.
Indeed, it's a poor show on the voting this month I do wonder sometimes whether this is a musicans' forum or a glorified knitting circle.
I literally only come here for the knitting to be fair..... i will listen later, my new work computer is an arse to get my earplugs into
24. didn't get chance to get in on this due to starting a new job and going away for a week etc, hopefully now ive got a clearer headspace ill be able to enter the next one
25.
Maybe it's because I'm a coward but I've started work on several of the monthly composition challenges. The problem is that by the time I've barely started (and I'm trying to work out how to do what I want to do next) there's always several very professional (and very good) pieces submitted which I listen to and decide I can't compete with. OK it's a failing in me but ... I wonder anyone else feels the same? If so would having an earliest submission date, say the 21st of the month onwards, help? Steve
i don't listen to any of them until voting... regardless of how good or bad they are, they will always obscure your vision and views on your own work. if you plan to enter the race, just worry about your own stuff, then listen to the others when its time to vote
