Sounds like a good weekend to me! Well done Bilbo. Just started my collaboration with Mr Stone. It's a crazy month for me at work and all weekends are booked up with social stuff (no bad thing), so it's going to be a case of burning some midnight oil to get this one done. I recorded a first take of a bassline last night, and I know Rob has been noodling with a new guitar amp, so things are underway... expect something loud and heavy as a result
i havent decided how low im going to tune my guitar... it could be very very heavy

looks like me and skol had better catch up
-
I completely missed this one with work sh*t and band sh*t....... cooking up something special for july when im back from my holibobs
-
i decided against having a go at this, had a listen to the tracks and i don't really have time to dig as deep into them as i feel i probably need to, so i'm not going to bother i like the track tho
-
i meant just a spike of noise its ok, i think my files just downloaded with a coruption, redownloaded and they are gone
-
i may have missed this in the thread, but am i the only one that seems to have some really nasty spikes in some of the tracks?
-
tired flipping it so the pd7 was before the sansamp, made a massive difference! no feedback at all, cheers for the suggest thodrik
I would guess that the extra gain and push with the Sansamp is driving the pedal harder than it normally gets driven with just the bass by itself. Putting it before the Sansamp will probably solve the problem.
i will give it a try
If the distortion pedal is really high gain, maybe get a noise suppressor. I set my overdrive before my Sansamp and try not to have too much of a jump in volume from clean to distortion, although generally I have the distortion set slightly louder. Generally I have never had any problems and often I was using the Boss ODB3
using a pd7 phat hed, doesnt feed back normally, only when in the chain with the sansamp, so i may try putting it before the sansamp

im going to have a crack at this before i go on holibobs, my self imposed ban on writing doesnt extend to mixing
PS: I use Reason as my DAW, which doesn't use standard VST/AU plug-ins (long story...). So, if anybody can recommend any good quality - and free! - EQ plug-ins to assist with this month's challenge then please post links to them here. I think it'll be of great help to anyone who's new to EQ'ing and might be wondering which products to use. Ta.
did i not email you an eq recently? people might like that?

so hear me out, trying to work out how to get the best sound here i have both a sansamp bass driver di, and a distortion pedal. i try to use the sansamp as a way of cleaning up and colouring my clean tone, and then the distortion for drive. depending on the room, i can end up with a lot of feedback when i have them both on, obviously due to the a spike in gain. do any other players use this sort of set up, if so, what tips do you have to keep the feedback to a minimum, short of tap dancing and changing between the two, which is hard enough but im the singer as well. is it best to have lower level on the sansamp or the distortion?
Last night was great. The sound wasn't brilliant, but the performance was good!
the sound is often hit and miss and download, very much dependant on the wind where its located now

i saw them at download in 2007, i wanted to go this year but non of my mates were going so didnt bother, ive seen all the big bands anyway

3 Things That Inspired You To Play Bass?
RockfordStone replied to Chiliwailer's topic in General Discussion
1 - everyone else played guitar, and i wanted to be unique 2 - had just read martin kemps autobiography 3 - the bass line in "duck and run" by 3 doors down -
i really should get off my arse and do this, but im in a self imposed writing ban
-
all my basses are as good as each other, i wouldn't have any issues using them all live. then again i play whichever one i feel like at the time

Following on from the damaged WAL thread......
RockfordStone replied to Phil Adams's topic in General Discussion
i will use any bass i fancy when i play, which is why i have them all insured. i wouldnt take an uninsured instrument out -
well really its the idiots that broke it, but you don't leave a WAL in a place where beered up idiots can get hold of it in the first place... and if you are gigging a WAL bass you insure it. unless the venue has a designated store/safe room, then it surely can't be there fault
Brilliant Rob , just superb My faves are right were I belong and handsome fighters , if all the songs were produced like handsome fighters you could give up your day job before long
haha i wish i could take credit for that one, that was done by the master that is Ian Wetherall at Premier Studios in Corby, we did a whole ep on tape, sounded awesome i did do right where i belong tho, slaved ages over that one, i think it came out ok, considering all the tracks were lifted from various recording sessions and smashed together

So i have been going through a recent head blockage in terms of music. i have written a load of songs over the past couple of years that i have never finished. today i forced myself to mix the demo's have done just to get them off my back, and i have uploaded them to my sound cloud. i have also uploaded songs from my entire history of recording since 2007, partly to show myself how much ive changed in the past 5 or so years, but partly so that people will hear them, in the hope that putting them out there will ease my fears about getting songs finished and releasing them. now not all of these are perfectly recorded, perfectly sung or perfectly mixed, but i am proud of the content. have a listen if you like at https://soundcloud.com/robslusarmusic and let me know what you think
You lot are making me blush now!! Glad you think I could have some potential and are seeing past my flaws.... Means a lot xx Paul - does very much sound like a night out in Cardiff
the fact it sounds like a night out in cardiff makes it sound personal and unique, i like it
Thanks alot for all your advice, think I will sit down for some periods and take more breaks at band practice. Unstrap and walk around a bit, will try tonight. I am only 28 so don't want to ruin my back this early on! Looks like my Warwick weighs in at 10.1413 LB at a conversion. So its a bit heavy..... Oh and as far as practice hours go, we tend to do a 4 to 4 1/2 hour practice on a week day, and sometimes go up to 6 hours on a weekend. we are always writing new material and alot of our best stuff seems to come out after the 3 hour mark! Still think its a good enough reason to get that status.
that does seem like an obscene amount of time to practice without a break my practices average between 3/4 hours, usually with a 10 minute break every hour, but we will often take the weight off by sitting down or perching somewhere. regardless of bass weight, you will feel it if you are standing with it on for 4 or so hours solid
