I am looking for a guitarist/songwriter who is looking to be creative with a project, which i am hoping will be alternative yet epic rock, mixing epic atmospheric elements with punky/indie undertones, something along the lines of angels and airwaves, biffy clyro, boxcar racer, feeder. I have no real set agenda in terms of a genre, i just want to create something to be proud of. I do spend a lot of time writing, but find i write better with someone like minded who i can bounce ideas off of, so at this stage, i am looking for the mccartney to my lennon so to speak Long term, id like to turn this into a full band, and do the gigging, recording etc that comes with it. but i want to get a basis down so that the band will have an idea of what they will be joining. My focus isn't on getting a massive record deal and being famous, it is merely to make the best music possible and be able to play it and enjoy it. If this sounds interesting, drop me a message

i am currently going through a process of reinventing myself as a song writer... i might use this as a first draft
Yup, I know that feeling very well indeed! Deciding when to stop tweaking drum patterns can be difficult for me. I'm quite used to spending hours on unique little fills, hit velocities and other quirks that no bugger else is ever going to notice! It can be like an obsession.
i let superior drummer sort out velocities etc... i can do drum rhythms alright, my fills are sh*t tho

Ive used squier basses in the past and found them to be more than suitable as a pack up, my last squier was my main bass at one point

bass and it's effects on marriages

my other half would most likely dump me if i gave up bass because id be more of a miserable git than i am now -
it is feasible if you have the right set up. if you can for example send more than one output from your interface then yes, you would have to set up seperate busses in the software to mute different tracks and route each one to to an outpout then plug into the mix amp. for example, if your interface has 4 outputs Bus 1 - Guitars, Bass, Vocals -> Output 1 -> Headphone Socket 1 Bus 2 - Guitars, Drums, Vocals -> Output 2 -> Headphone Socket 2 Bus 3 - Drums, Bass, Vocals -> Output 3 -> Headphone socket 3 Bus 4 - Drums, Bass, Guitars -> Output 4 -> Headphone Socket 4 this would then give you individual mixes, but as i say it depends on how many outputs you can take from your mixer/interface i hope that makes sense, i know what i am trying to say but im not sure i said it right

Ive pretty much decided to give up song writing for a while. im going to let the block win this time, and i'll find other things to occupy my time, then maybe come back to it when i have the urge

ive got one of these http://www.studiospares.com/headphone-amps+splitters/art-headamp-4-headphone-amplifier/invt/325010?VBMST=headphone%20amp as it was on offer at the time, works fine for me. i have used one of these http://www.studiospares.com/headphone-amps+splitters/behringer-microamp-ha400/invt/380280?VBMST=headphone%20amp and that was ok. you wouldnt be able to seperate the mix out, youd only be able to manage volume levels

don't see anything wrong with black shirt friday to be fair... over rule him, he's only a drummer and has no real power
-
i have them etched into my skin

think part of my problem is stress from work. it isn't helping that the "band" i'm in is so sporadic and is showing no signs of getting anywhere after 6 months which is putting pressure on me to write my own stuff. i think im writing because i need to do something, not because im inspired of WANT to do it. ive not gigged in 438 days, so i am somewhate inactive musically and it is frustrating the hell out of me
-
suffering very badly from this at the moment, anyone got any ideas on how to shift it?
-
ive got loads of computer music disks somewhere i think, and future music, i got bored with the magazines tho cos they just started talking about the ipad a lot. ill have to dig them out

Things to say at mic sound checks...

it depends on what mood im in, normally i do the one, one two and sing to get a level, but sometimes i throw dumb sh*t in like "the train leaving platform 3 is delayed due to leaves on the line" in a station announcer voice -
if you are going to a gig, you always take an amp unless you have prearranged with the house or other bands that you will be using their gear. showing up without your gear and expecting people to lend is unacceptable. i will happily lend my cab to people if they have asked me before hand, and at a push, my amp if they are known to me i did a gig once on tour where we headed up north, we lugged all our stuff up the country, then one of the bands who lived 5 minutes away sad he didn't own an amp. the promoter wasn't happy, but i insisted they run him through the PA. one of the other shows we did on the tour i caught the other band playing through it without having approached me at any point, and he was playing it so hard it was peaking solidly (i have since had to have it repaired due to potential damage caused by this). i hate being the one who sounds like an arse, but I paid a lot of money for my gear, and if i have to replace it, i can't afford to. if i make the effort to either bring my rig, or arrange with others before hand, why cant others, its just courtesy

i am looking to put together a collection of drum loops so i can use them as a base to start songs with, give me a new and easily changeable vibe when im writing. i know a couple of sites to get free ones from, but do you guys have any you use to find them? any genre any tempo really, they are just to use as initial ideas to get my creative juices working
PS: I'd definitely be up for collaborating on next month's track - assuming nobody cries foul play!?
id like to collaborate in general with other muso's if anyone is up for it, tinterweb based recording project or something
I'm a better finisher than a starter tbh.
this, once i get the idea down, it flows till i finish it. in my experience working with bands ive been in, a song isn't "finished" until it is on record

i only switch between 2 tunings, im well practiced at flicking the foot pedal to do it
-
im going to use some alternative tunings that are a bit odd, see if it inspires anything
