Your secret is safe with us... Actually, 63.05% of voters did not prefer Skol's entry. Just thought it might make the others feel better.
thats fine, but only 0.49% of it liked mine -
I suppose the legality of samples used and sound bites may need to be considered, some tracks may be open to legal action and I for one am not well up on the laws regarding these things for public use or sale. Dont have a problem myself with the idea, but wouldnt want to get into any legal problems. Someone in the know would need to check things and OK them I suppose. Otherwise we could hit problems.
isn't that only an issue if we sell the music and make money from them? i could be wrong, im not great on legal stuff -
Bass player by choice, or relegated guitarist?
RockfordStone replied to Tuono's topic in General Discussion
i started out as a singer first off, then decided to take up bass cos all my friends had guitars, i know plenty of people who are relegated bass players tho -
I have finally had time to listen to all the tracks. Well, they are all awesome and I've had a horrible time trying to pick only one among them. I have made an effort not to be naturally attracted to the ones that belong to my favourite music styles, and to concentrate instead on composition, musicianship and general feel. I have finally voted for Robert (Bilbo) because once i start listening to it I can't drag myself away. But well done everyone. I haven't been able to follow the whole of this thread and I'm not sure whether this question has come up already but - why doesn't Basschat create a downloadable album with all the tracks for each month of the composition competition? I for one would love to collect all the tracks from last month and this month (I wasn't aware of the competition before then) and the future ones, and happy to pay for them.
i think the plan is to create a cd with the winner from each month on ive got no issues with my songs being made available for a monthly download if thats what people want to do -
I'll be entering December's comp, regardless.
i might sit out the next one, im getting some new gear at the end of december, so i may write something a bit more less traditional song, but i wont have time.... unless i just of course write a traditional song again -
Started in September mate, this is the third. But it's in the Recording Forum, the NeverNeverLand of Basschat We've had nearly double the votes in two days than we had the entire October voting week already though, so it's definitely becoming more popular

I think the 'recording' section should be abandoned - as no one goes there. People should post their music up in the main section
maybe we should start a recordingchat.com..................... i'll close the door on my way out -
people have different agendas and ideas about what the band should be. The issue ive always had is other members honesty about this. if i haven't got the time or indeed the desire to be in a band, im upfront with the band and address my issues or give them the chance to find someone who is on their wavelength. all too often i have people who say "yeah man im well up for it, lets practice tuesday next week" only to be told an hour before "oh man i can't come, ive just left work so im not going to have time to have dinner then come out" and its this flakey bull sh*t which seems all to common nowadays. the amount of times ive had to cover the cost of members not showing up for practices is unreal... which is why now i can't be bothered.
-
the question you need to ask, is if you sell one, would you use the money for something sensible, or would end up being spent on nothing in particular. if its going towards something, and you only need one bass then get rid of one, if you are just going to waste the money then why bother? ive had up to 5 basses at a time. im down to 3 now, 1 main gigging bass, one as a back up, and one i use mainly for recording
-
sounds like you have done the right thing, ignoring the gear issue, they sound like dickheads talking to a venue engineer like that. ive been in bands with decent size rigs, but usually we played venues with little or no moniroting so we used them as much as monitors, but we never used anything bigger than a 100watt marshall valve amp with a 4 x 12... unless you are on a big stage in front of a lot of people, its not needed. sounds like these guys were using cabs as a penis extension.

has this thread been highlighted anywhere else on the forum, try and suck some of the others in to vote even if they didnt take part? -
ok guys, ive set myself a new years resolution to finally get my head around midi programming. i use it for drums, but now im looking to use it for more synth based ideas or some simple piano lines to expand the texture of my song writing. im looking for something that is inexpensive but fairly decent to allow me to get started, im not looking to be the next picasso or synth so something simple but useable would be ideal. ive been considering something like the m audio keystation mini 32, but wonder if this is a bit too lightweight. im sure some of you have more experience than I in this field, so any advice would be great

ive given up on bands for the time being for this very reason, ive had 4 solid years of flakey members, and it gets so tiresome, especially if you are willing to put the effort in
-
I think Nige is a potential winner again this month...
-
its funny, as this as gone on, ive had less and less concern about whether i win or not, but more enjoyed the sounds and the process of making music. certainly has been a good month
-
ive got both on my precision, only the astray at the bridge stays on when its used regularly cos the other one can get in the way when im playing. they do look smart, but can be a pain in the arse. especially as its an extra thing to deal with when you restring
Nice one. Just did a quick comparison with the original and it is a tad brighter as you mention. The start of the track has me perplexed - in a good way! - as I'm a fan of found sounds and field recordings... so what is that at the start?? Sounds like a tape deck being set up.
it is exactly that dude, tape deck being set up then play being pressed before the tune starts. i thought it was quirky
Yeah like this one better than the first mix, first one was was good, but this one is better. Very nice vocals impressed. Its a gentle version to my bull in a china shop approach to the subject
cheers man, ive shortened the intro and tried to cut a bit of mud out of the guitar line, seems to have made it a touch brighter

made a couple of changes to mine http://soundcloud.com/rockfordstone/waiting-for-a-hero-2nd-mix

ive been playing around with reaper, which if you work it out in terms of currency conversion costs 37 quid for the full thing. having used it over the weekend its done enough to convince me its worth spending that money on
-
logic studio is usually a slimmed down version of logic pro, less tracks and less shiny stuff i think. if you are not doing massively complex projects then studio should be ok
-
i might do some work on mine... think i can change some bits
Yeah I use Reason almost exclusively. Love it. I used Cubase for a little while before that and going back further I used to use tracker software. Ended up taking a ten year break from music and when I came back I opted for Reason. It just suits my workflow perfectly and I got to grips with it very quickly, which was a big draw for me at the time. Every music software offers a demo version you can test out, so best advice is to try them all and pick which is right for you.
sorry i mean reaper, not sure why i said reason... and + 1 for the reaper manual, having played with it over the weekend, the manual is actually very handy and easy to grasp. ive been very impressed with reaper, i think i will be purchasing a full license over the next couple of weeks
