  1. That sound you hear is my credit card sighing with relief that they still aren't doing a 5-string version.
  2. Having very quickly tired of Dua Lipa**, I tried watching Jungle on BBC4 the other night, but while they sounded good the lights immediately made it totally unwatchable for me. I've never seen so much strobing in my life. If they didn't trigger at least one seizure in the audience, I'll be amazed. The goddamned things are dangerous. ** what does the team think regarding the widespread accusations that she was lip-synching? Was/wasn't she?
  3. Oh good call sir. My favourite Duran track.
  4. Great ska gig on Saturday night, as per usual the PA was vocal/guitar/keys/kick/snare only so my Genz/Barefaced stack of doom was roaring away at the back. I love it when I have to crank it up a bit. Using the Spector, as per usual on the ska gigs, I experimented with a couple of sounds... usually for 'Time Bomb' I use a slightly grubby SVT model on my Zoom MS60B, but this time I also stamped on the Wine Cellar for an extra bit of grit and oh my god it was HUGE. Without a doubt the best pick sound I've ever had.
  5. Any further updates Eddie?
  6. I've heard lots of good things about the Ibanez GSRM20 Mikro basses. 29" scale and very light.
  7. OK, it's tomorrow and we're waiting...
  8. The GP12SMX Trace preamp has two pre-shape settings, IIRC one of them actually sounds ok. But I never used either of them live.
  9. Yes, the Signal Shape 'Mid Scoop' button on my Genz always remains disengaged. I wish I could go back in time and tell my 22 year old self to stop trying to get a good sound with that stupid smiley EQ curve everybody used.
  10. The three best sounding amps I've had, in no particular order: Genz-Benz Shuttle (the 6.0 I used to have, and the 9.2 I have now) -- clean, powerful, and ridiculously light... the perfect amp for a gigging 59-year-old Eden WT400 -- lovely uncoloured sound. The best live sound I've ever had was when I borrowed @Kiwi's old Ken Smith BSR 5 and played it through the Eden. They were made for each other. Trace Elliot GP12SMX -- still my favourite preamp of all time.

  12. @TheGreek You might want to consider redacting your name and address from the first pic, given that this GD forum is freely accessible to non-members...

      Man, we're getting old ...
Did you get to talk to the driver? Stig? (Will we ever get to know the true identity of that Stig? I still reckon it's Ricky Fataar.)

  23. Car insurance renewal quote just landed.

    Last year, £376.

    This year, £635.

    I don't bloody think so.

      LowB_FTW

      Last year for me £270

This year £367 was the renewal quote, which I managed to get down to £336, and couldn't get anywhere else for cheaper.

      But your quote 😳

Pretty sure your current insurer doesn't want you on their books next year with that quote.

I was expecting a big jump, but it actually went down a few quid!  This is an Admiral Multicar policy for me, my good lady wife, and my 23yo daughter.

  24. I wonder if the organiser's mate knows that he's playing for free while other players will be getting expenses money? And to address the original point -- yes I share your concern, it's a very weird situation and as the person arranging the dep I would have been just as unhappy with and embarrassed by it as you are. (Also, this £100-behind-the-bar nonsense needs sorting out before you play there again, but as you say that's a whole different subject.)
