  1. It's not just music gigs. I bought tickets to see Ed Byrne in March 2020, it subsequently sold out. The gig was postponed to March this year and then again to last week. The hall was half empty.
  2. Things you get told on Facebook groups:

Apparently, saying that I wouldn't shed any tears if a pair of child torturers/murderers got the sht kicked out of them in prison actually makes me a worse person than the two killers themselves.

Blimey. All this time I thought I was a bit of a bleeding-heart pinko lib, but it seems I'm an absolute rank amateur.

I think Daz hit the nail on the head, reform wherever possible has to be the aim, but sometimes society just needs a break from some types - as famously put to Messrs Kray a few years back.

@Rich I'm 100% with you mate, in fact I would go further and actually offer to kick the sht out of them.

One wonders how the people in Liverpool who were throwing bricks at the prison van transporting the then 10 years old Robert Thompson and Jon Venables, would have viewed an adult who killed them?

  3. This morning my laptop has refused to communicate with tinternet for some reason. This is quite serious as it means I can't connect to the office servers and will therefore be unable to do any work today (phone is ok hence this post). I've tried everything I can think of but unfortunately even after much swearing and bashing of keys...

    ...it's started working perfectly.

Damn. *puts bass down again* >:(

...and everything was going perfectly till it started working again.

  4. Went to an Ed Byrne gig last night... postponed from March 2020 :o well worth the wait though, haven't laughed so much in ages.

He's really superb, isn't he? I think I must've caught one of the very last dates on that tour before it got called off!

  5. I love the way old gear sounds -- the combination of my old Trace GP12SMX head and SWR Triad cab was the best sound I have ever had. Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps. But I'm simply too old and knackered to go lugging huge amps and 100lb cabs around any more. My back just won't take it.
  6. I play a few of the ska band's songs with a pick... some for the feel, and some purely for the harder tone it gives. A couple of my favourites are Rancid's 'Time Bomb' and The Beat's 'Mirror In The Bathroom'.
  7. Sorry, I slept through most of the list. Did I miss anything?
  8. Ska band's xmas gig this coming Saturday. Been sold out for ages.

Rhythm guitarist has just tested +ve.

    BoIIocks. :(

Get him a mask and a bottle of oxygen and play wirelessly from the car park. 🎸🎸

Could have been worse, could have been the bass player!

  9. But then she bollokcsed it all up by saying that Jazz Basses were only any good for "walking around going dink-dink-dink"
  10. Have a look at this... well worth a punt. Mine are superb. You don't have to be a pro musician to be eligible.
  11. My custom moulded plugs are probably the best money I have ever spent. I put mine in before soundcheck last night and didn't take them out again until we started tearing down afterwards. I didn't realise how loud the ambient noise in the pub was until I took them out! What sort of plugs are you using, @theplumber? EDIT: definitely the best money I have ever spent.
  12. Fired rig up earlier. Rack compressor dead. Not a thing. Damn.

Grumpy face on. Start playing. Sound is feckin gorgeous :) happy face on.

So, that's going to be an empty 1U space then

Empty space? I leapt on a TC C300 going cheap the other day. Bargain and brilliant!

  13. Because life is too short for nitpicky minutiae, and I’ve got a gig to prepare for.
  14. TBH I thought it was pretty obvious that I didn't really mean exactly a tenner and that it was a figure of speech to denote 'an amount of cash', rather than an actual maths failure. I will rephrase my original statement. "Going out as a 4 is fine if you can't make it, but to leave you out simply to get an indeterminate sum of money more each? All it says is that you personally are less important to them than an extra indeterminate sum of money, and that is outrageous." I hope that clarifies things.
  15. I've had a busy working week, I've got a busy day tomorrow and a gig in the evening. All I want today is a bit of chilling time sat on me jacksy. Is that too much to ask?

    Apparently yes, it is... >:(

      No rest for the wicked...😈😈

  16. I've never heard a shim speak...
  17. Going out as a 4 is fine if you can't make it, but to leave you out simply to get a few quid more each? All it says is that you personally are less important to them than an extra tenner, and that is outrageous. You're a band member, if you're available you should be included for the gig. As Paul said, either split it five ways or don't do it. Sounds like these 'kids' have a lot to learn.
  18. In my ska band, if I can't make a gig Mark the rhythm guitarist takes over bass duties and the normally guitarless frontman does rhythm duties. Interestingly Mark and I never discuss our bass parts and how we approach them - there's no "I play that run differently" or anything. If neither of us can make a gig, it doesn't happen - Mark is the only bass dep they'll use.
  19. My reaction to that would be "fine, in that case I'll sex & travel and you can play them all as a quartet then".
  20. "Top Ten"s are meaningless. Music is a way of life, not a competition.
  21. I've been trying for ages to get Dancing Queen into the Destroyers party set. There's a brilliant horn section part hiding in there somewhere just waiting for our MD to devise it and write it out and it'd be a 100% cast iron guaranteed floor-filler. And as a bonus, that gorgeous bassline.
  22. Oh my word *whimper* anyone want to buy a kidney?
  23. Ditto, reported. He knows perfectly well that it's not a Leo.
  24. I was in one band for a while where the keyboard player's ladyfriend came along to every rehearsal. Never said a thing, just sat there nursing a drink. After a few weeks I mentioned to him the fact that she didn't say much. "Oh yeah," he said, "she's Dutch, her English is non existent." Turned out he had, errm, obtained her services one night in Amsterdam and got on quite well, so she came home with him. Yes, he was a bit weird.
  25. I can't speak for Pete, and no I wasn't there either. Maybe you're a bit easier-going than me, or a bit more patient. I dunno. I'm lucky, I haven't been in rehearsal rooms where that or worse happened, but I'd only be in there once. Like I said, life's too short.
