  1. I had a fretless Roadie 1 back in the dim distant. I fitted a Hollis preamp to give a bit of a boost, and then later the original humbug pickup died -- well, half of it did anyway. So I fitted an EMG-35 in its place, which sounded a lot better I have to say. The neck sadly developed a slight back-bow which meant that, whilst playable, the action was a lot higher than I would have liked, so I moved it on. The fingerboard was the hardest piece of ebony I have ever seen in my life -- I only ever strung that bass with rounds, and in all the years I used it they didn't leave a single mark on the fingerboard at all. The second hardest piece of ebony I've seen is on the fingerboard of my current fretless... the neck of which was made by Jaydee. They certainly have some good wood.
  2. Yes, they hung up the phone on me when I said I was going to do Simple Minds' Waterfront. Sarah -- hearty congrats 🤩 but the work starts now
  3. I have a bitsa P bass, the neck of which has a F decal on it. In the unlikely event that I sell it, I will sand it off first. That notwithstanding, it's my bass and I can do whatever the hell I want to it. If anyone has a problem with that, they are welcome to contact my complaints department on 1-800-IDONTCARE.
  4. The 3 members of The Hamsters used to go by the stage names of Snail's Pace Slim, The Rev. Otis Elevator and Ms. Zsa-Zsa Poultergeist.
  5. Have you considered changing it to the far more exciting Brett Stopwinkle?
  6. This, this, this, and this.

  10. My musical tastes are summed up by my CD collection... It goes from Abba to ZZ Top, with Motörhead next to Mozart, but if you look closely you'll find more jazz/fusion and prog than anything else.
  11. 'Sailing By', the BBC R4 shipping forecast tune as played by the Alan Perry/William Gardner Orchestra. There is a howling bass còck-up at 1:55 or thereabouts... a very bum note followed by a bar of frantic chart-searching "where are we?" silence, and then he's back.
  12. Cheap'n'cheerful Thunderbird copy project incoming :)

  13. Minute by Minute - Doobie Brothers
  14. Just found this video grab -- this is where I wear mine. Rather fetching t-shirt, I'm sure you'll agree. Gormless expression model's own.
  15. It'd probably look a bit like this:

  20. That's make-before-break.
  21. This has a toggle switch but the wiring is pretty much the same. Ignore the Jazzier aspects of the picture series-parallel-single.pdf
  22. I think you'll need a break-before-make type to avoid funny goings on. Something like this would probably suffice, they might look cheap but I've used them in a number of applications and they've always done the job. https://www.bitsbox.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=116_139&products_id=923
  23. My Wal is part of my pension plan
  24. Two things always jump out at me from that pic. This: and this:
  25. Anyone who seriously uses phrases like “receiving songs from the ether” and “dissolving this iteration of the band” should be smeared in honey and pegged out over an ants’ nest. Sad but dare I say not exactly surprising that she’s now badmouthing your entire ‘iteration’. You are far far better off without that sort of negativity, and it’s good to read that your new band is more enjoyable. Onward and upward and good riddance to up-themselves divas.
