    Dink?

Don't know what made me think of it, but this morning my memory randomly dug up a quote from Melissa Auf Der Maur in Bass Guitar magazine: Q: "Are you still playing Precisions? A: "...there's no reason as a bass player to play anything else. Maybe if you were playing jazz or funk, but for heavy rock riffs the Precision is the only one that's round enough and has the attack. A Jazz is good for walking around and going dink-dink-dink...." An interesting POV from Ms. On The Wall, I'm sure you'll agree. Incidentally, has anybody here ever managed to get their bass to actually go 'dink'? ABOVE: a Mr Trujillo walking around and going dink-dink-dink.

  5. Oh my god, that is FAR more years ago than I care to remember. I seem to recall that being a very splendid evening. Would be really nice to have another Bristol posse get-together... I think there are quite a few of us now!
  6. Oh sweet. I had a D-tuner on my Pro II-E for many years, looked just like this... I took it off and sold it when I stopped gigging the bass. Rather wish I'd kept it on now. Brilliant thing, totally reversible and the single best mod you can make to a 4 string bass IMHO.
  7. Drummer in my first really good band left us to play with 5:30. He didn't play on Bed, but he did subsequently play with Paul Bassett in Orange Deluxe. I'd love to get in contact with him again... if anyone knows a drummer (or even an ex-drummer) named Keith McCubbin, let me know!

  9. I've updated the link in these posts so that it will take you straight there.
  10. Just made some beef jerky. Cheapy Lidl steak hammered very thin, cut into 1" wide strips, marinaded for 12hrs in a witches brew of golden syrup, soy sauce, per-peri spices and Bovril(!), and then baked on a rack in the oven for 6 hours at 75deg. Turned twice and brushed with marinade during that time. Bloody marvellous.

Second batch will be hitting the oven in the morning. This time the marinade is syrup, kecap manis and Jack Daniels.

  11. That's an excellent mod to a cab that was bloody good to start with! I've got an unmodded one of these but in very scruffy condition, it's a cracking little cab that punches well above its weight, handles low Bs with consummate ease. Mine currently lives in my mate's studio with my Genz Neo-Pak as his house bass rig, everyone who's used it loves it. Sorry, I'm hijacking. GLWTS!
