Just measured my Thunder 1A and the measurements are the same -- so your Spector 8 has what is basically a 4-string neck. Wow. I'd always assumed they'd be a bit wider than that.
@BreadBin, can you keep this thread running as a build diary plz? I'd love to see how this turns out, cos I've always fancied an 8-string toy and fleabay is chock full of cheap 5-strings...
In ar ironic twist, I've done this on my Sire MM V7 solid covers would be better, but I'm reluctant to buggger about with the pups just in case I make a horlicks of it.
My first bass was/is an absolute POS and is now unplayable, but I could no sooner get rid of it than fly to the moon. GLWTS, but seriously man, don't sell it.
This has got to be #1 on the Ludicrous Bargains list this week. Superb classic bass for an absolute steal. GLWTS!
At that price, you could get a luthier to add lines and you'd still have a bargain bass.
On my V7 I changed the tuners and string tree, and added chrome control knobs, strap lock buttons, and a homemade ramp. Quite a few P/V owners seem to change the bridge too, especially on the 4 strings, but I've never felt the need.
Yes. Back in the 80s my originals band had a tune in 12/8 with a slap bass part that was a bit like Level 42's 'Heathrow' in terms of rhythm, i.e. it went sort of 'daah-daah-d-d-d-daah-daah-d-d-d-' and so on. I had to sing a smooth BV over it. It took me weeks and weeks of solid practice to nail it and I still had to concentrate furiously when we did it. Most of my BVs were and still are second nature, but that one never was.
I've always wanted to have this as my filing-out-afterwards music. Then my bloody ex-father in law went and beat me to it. Now if I use it, it'll look like I'm copying him. Thanks a bunch Fred.
So instead, I'm going to copy Clarky and have DLR's "Just A Gigolo". The "I Ain't Got No Body" bit will show folks that I'm having the last laugh.
I don't have a complete list for other songs, but I'd like "Redemption Song" and Level 42's "Leaving Me Now" in there somewhere.
Yup, my 1A is the same which is why my P is getting no action at the moment... It's completely outgunned tonally in terms of P sounds. The 1A is a monster.
I'm definitely not afraid of a bit of woodwork, I 'routed' out a battery box cavity in my OLP Ray body the other day using just drills and chisels, and the result was better than i could have hoped, so I'm more than happy to have a go at this twenty-quid P body
Here's a mad idea...?
The size of the Pro 2E's circuit board is pretty deceptive in truth... It's actually a pretty uncomplicated circuit, and a modern PCB designer worth his salt could probably condense it to a fraction of that size.
