  1. I definitely want it less P like. I don't need two P basses and as I said, the Thunder 1A does the P job brilliantly. I fancy something completely different, hence my wondering about mudbuckers and Darkstars and so on. I don't just want to swap one P pickup for another P pickup.
  2. I chose ash/maple for my V7 purely because I preferred the look of the maple fretboard.
  3. I paid £330 for my strawberry red Pro 2E in 1986. I would sell a kidney or one of my children first. Although realistically I would possibly consider trading it for another Wal, but it'd have to be something pretty special.
  4. It's a P bass, it's got a hot-ish Wilkinson P pickup and it sounds like a fairly loud and lively, errm, P bass.
  5. My bitsa P bass isn't seeing any action at the moment, because it's comprehensively outgunned P-sound wise by my Thunder 1A. So I've been toying with the idea of changing the pickup to get a different sound. But what to try? I don't want anything modern/hi-fi, quite the opposite in fact. And I definitely don't want to swap one P pickup for another slightly different P pickup. So, a mudbucker maybe? A Tbird pickup? Darkstar would be nice but out of my price league. What would you guys suggest? Have any of you done a similar mod, and if so whaddya got?
  6. You can have mine if you want.
  7. I just LOVE the looks of these things. The burst and black goes together so well, and all the chrome gives it a real hot-rod vibe, to my eyes anyway. I even like the screws. It reminds me of this:
  8. Pub gigs can sometimes be a right pain in the arris. But I would give anything to play one tonight. 😞

  10. I haven't seen a set and I don't know about smaller in terms of height, but I know you can get slimmer chrome knobs, as I've got some on my Sire V7. So you could get 2 normal sized knobs and 1 slim?
  11. Mo is a lovely, lovely man. A true gentleman.

Next project has arrived -- Musikding's 'Classic Bass Preamp'. In other words, a clone of the Stingray preamp. I'm going to mod it a bit to tame that massive bass boost and probably the treble too.
  14. I suspect if we told Mr Wishneszskwyzy what we thought of his playing, he'd tell us to fuh-calf. He doesn't mince his words.
  15. Funnily enough, I once went out with a girl who (ok, that's enough smut. Admin)
  16. It's not an IKEA one, but I recently converted an old wardrobe into a bass storage cabinet. It's absolutely ideal -- keeps them all together, away from dust and sunlight. I highly recommend it.
  17. I hope that doesn't slip... my son is due to get married in October. At this rate my next gig is likely to be his evening bash, IF they don't have to postpone.

OK, well partial success anyway. Fuzzdog's Mammoth clone bit works very well -- I've added an input level control which means that it doesn't freak out if an active bass is plugged into it. You'll notice the hole where there is supposed to be a Blend control... this is the bit that needs tweaking, at the moment they're not playing nicely together and I need to establish why. Until I've got that sorted, it's still working fine as a plain Mammoth/Mastodon clone. I'm dead chuffed with the way the artwork came out. I put the pic together in MS Word and then printed it onto an A4 sheet of clear LaserJet label stuff. I'm sure it wouldn't stand up to years of relentless gigging, but it's fine for my purposes.
  19. My only guitar is my trusty pawn shop refugee Eko Ranger 6. I've always said that if I was a serious guitarist, the two instruments I'd definitely have would be a nice Tele and a Parker Fly.

      ^^^ This.

I'm starting week 5 of 'furlough' - use the time do do things for you and your family (this does not include murdering them! :D).

You may never get another chance like this. :)

Sorry to hear the Rich. I'm hoping it's not too inconvenient for you or leaves you financially out of pocket.

I hope too that you're able to use the time to do things you'd been wanting to do for a while.

In second week of furlough at this end....having to hide the credit card from meself to stop random boredom purchases

  21. You are more than welcome sir hope it keeps the young lady happy! I'd always assumed that Don Was played it. He's very definitely no slouch on the bass.
