  1. I tell you what, if you tried one of Jabba's extraordinary little basses (seen here modelled by @Pea Turgh), your Wingbass would be gathering dust in no time. They really are the most amazing things and I am seriously tempted.
  2. Two things occur to me from the video. Very little slap. In fact, thinking back to the day itself, there was hardly any going on at all. If only the LBGS was so tasteful! Every time I appear in shot, I'm carrying yet another cup of coffee. I'm starting to think I might actually have the caffeine addiction I've been joking about for years..!
  3. https://www.basschat.co.uk/announcement/26-advertising-whats-going-on-where-am-i/ Worry not, grasshopper.
  4. £6.50 you say? Well it might be worth it for the parts, perhaps I'll put a bid on. Hold on...
  5. Dammit, I meant to pick one of those CDs up *slaps self*
  6. Just to clarify... the 'dinky package' referred to the bass, and not @Witters I've just realized that I forgot to call out thanks to @Chienmortbb and the shootout massive... fascinating stuff, and very interesting results. I'm sure I wasn't the only one surprised at my choice when that curtain was lifted. Dunno about the rest of you, but I actually feel quite genuinely sad today knowing that there's now a year's wait.
  7. Likewise. It's really not annoying at all, he said unconvincingly.
  8. If we're going to have a skinny-string interloper, at least it was a good (and very cool) one
  9. @Frank Blank definitely won the long distance prize. There's dedication. @Jabba_the_gut's work really won the day for me. As Frank says, I honestly don't think he realises just how good his instruments are. Here is @Witters trying, as so many of us did, to work out how Jez managed to get such a dinky package to make such a good and BBBBIG sound. As ever, many many thanks to the wonderful Scrumpettes for laying on such an epic spread, and keeping me supplied with gallons of coffee! Last and definitely not least, thanks to @scrumpymike for organising yet another belting day. I raise my hat to you sir.
  10. You jammy sod, I had my eye on that
  11. Ladies and gentlemen, Mr Tony Butler... a lovely, charming and humble man. They say you should never meet your heroes, well I'm overjoyed to have met this one.
  12. Oh wow, a Performer... I am very jealous.
  13. Our guest columnist writes: No no no, Mr Skenkvar is incorrect. A Russian men vill do things wigorously -- such as pointing at vigs, building trektors, emerging wictorious against kepitalist foe -- but he vill never do them wiolently. There is no wiolence in Mother Russia, especially in KGB vich is really just a knitting circle and social club and definitely does not ever torture its wictims, errm I mean members."
  14. Two words: Mustang. Sally. Bands hate it. But punters bless 'em, they go mental for it. We have Love Shack in the set list. It bores me silly, but again the punters are always up and dancing their botties off to it. So I swallow my pride, think happy thoughts, and play those 5 notes over and over again because we're giving 'em what they want.
  15. I think you'll find it's pronounced "wiolent".
  16. You have a PM
  17. When I defretted my Yam RBX, I replaced the standard Yamaha 2 band with an Artec SE3P-A -- a 3 band eq with sweepable mid, featuring two concentric controls (bass/treb on one, mid freq/level on the other) so the whole thing fits into the existing 4 holes. For my money, a 3 band (especially with sweep mid) is the best eq for fretless, it allows you to really bring out the mwah and the swell. I know the Artec is a budget piece of kit, but I found it worked beautifully.
  18. To avoid drilling holes, I'd suggest a stacked bass/treb eq (e.g. EMG BTC Control) plus a set of nice pickups of your choice/taste.
  19. Generally on the floor next to my FX. I slip them into poly-pockets to keep them damage/beer proof, and I usually print them double-sided (hugging trees) and in 48-point so I can see them from a distance.
  20. Yup, I've got two or three long extensions (stop sniggering at the back there), I'll stick them in the car. I have a few 4- and 6-ways too, will bring them.
  21. From the OED blog https://public.oed.com/blog/january-2018-update-new-words-notes/ : "The use of snowflake as a derogatory term has become prominent on social media in recent years, but it has its roots in more positive connotations. The OED’s entry traces snowflake back to 1983 in a more affirmative sense, referring to a person, especially a child, regarded as having a unique personality and potential. The metaphor was based on the notion of every snowflake being one of a kind in appearance. By the late 1990s, that idea of the special snowflake was established enough to be sarcastically invoked in Chuck Palahniuk’s novel Fight Club: ‘You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake. You are the same decaying organic matter as everything else, and we are all part of the same compost pile.’ Over time, the term’s meaning shifted, and snowflake came be used as an insulting term for a person characterized as overly sensitive or easily offended, or as feeling entitled to special treatment or consideration. In this way, the original idea of a snowflake’s uniqueness has been displaced by allusion to its fragility." Although Mr. wood is correct in that some use the word to mean effectively 'someone who disagrees with me/is annoyed by things that I'm not'. Which by their own argument makes them snowflakes too. But then again, logic is often not exactly their strong point.
  22. snowflake NOUN 1.
